I went to a Rodon v Yankees game two years ago. Let's hope it turns out better than that one.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) For those with the ability to see into the future with such clarity, can I get the winning powerball numbers for the next drawing? Good thing you are indiana

I think he'll have same issues Evan Bayh had.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) Think it was the 4th last night where I was sure he was going to give up a big hit because West refused to call anything low for him. That was the stupidest strike zone I've watched in a while last night. strikes were called 4-5 inches outside, but only on the opposite side of the hitter and high, not called if low and outside, and a grab bag of how low or high he'd call it. I know, Joe West and all and we should be used to it, but it was one of those things where it was so crazy for everyone involved that I don't even know what to make of it.

White Sox decline to tender Tyler Flowers and Jacob Turner

I never said implied it was easy, but shuffling around veterans hoping to catch lightning in a bottle in age 30-34 seasons isn't a good strategy. It's not surprising sox get burned. Moving forward, I would hope they have the organization with enough depth that they can fill below average production internally, because "I'm glad we sort of reverse that trend this year with several young guys having breakout years." Is not surprising to me in the least. And those years would have never happened because we'd have austin jackson in center and brandon phillips or some s*** at 2b. If we are going to the market, relievers and sp 5-6-7 depth aside, let's use it to get something we can't get within our system. Pretty confident we will be able to create negative WAR catchers for the foreseeable future. -
Yeah, that's exactly right.

It's become comical, but I do feel for the guy. Obviously he's been able to live out a dream more than most, but quite the gut punch to finally make it to the big leagues and then be injured over and over and possibly missing your shot for good.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) The Rockets are stabbing at anything and everything to try to stay relevant. I'm glad they are tbh. They are so talented, sucks for them. -
I still think Quintana has been screwed by the unannounced raising of the strike zone (low strikes getting called less frequently) that has caused him to experiment with other areas (high and inside). He seems to have corrected this by including the changeup more low?

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) I don't think anyone thought he was a "start on a WS contender". But he is a nice player that couldn't easy man 2B and bat 8th on a playoff team. He is not elite by any means, but he plays great D and has flexibility. Winning teams need guys like that. I don't think many people thought he was more than that. Well if Conor Gillaspie could

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) I have a feeling he more than some others will be slow to adjust to the grind of catching every day over a 100+ game season. Yeah good point. I also wonder if Sox thought putting Zevala with him could get him focused with a little competition.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Second fastest 2B on the bases this season. What shocked me was Tim Anderson was the second fastest SS in the same statistic. Still have no idea why Rick doesn't allow some of the guys on this team to steal more. I've read that tim is slowed down to first by how he finishes his swing, but man when he gets to turn it up for extra bases it's awesome.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) They wanted more offense from the C position, something Flowers was severely lacking. They sure didn't expect Navarro having the worst year of his career. Oh well. Trying to upgrade your offense (marginally) while severely undermining your good pitching is exactly the whack-a-mole that epitomized the white sox failure from the 2014 accelerated rebuild. -

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) It's interesting to see Flowers develop into a good player but all of this written above is why I honestly can't blame the Sox letting him go when they did. He may have never become that player here. Whether that speaks about the coaching he received with the Sox or his own personal developing we'll probably never know. Maybe not but they replaced him with worse production than even he provided as a white sox. -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) I'd prefer younger players with upside, but I'd be fine with an Owens / Swihart package. Swihart alone would be pretty awful at this point, but better than nothing, I suppose. I think former top prospect reclamation project isn't the worst player type to pursue with a guy like Frazier on .5 a year.

I love/d saladino. He was the one that proved to me that the production that we could get from our not that great AAA replacement players wasn't that different than the 1-year deal vets we kept stuffing the roster with. He 100% maximized his baseball talent level. I also don't think I ever intimated that he was more than a very useful player that played 3 positions well and showed surprising power and baseball IQ that stood apart. We didn't need to sign gordon beckham or bonifacio anymore. But a player like that also has no room for error unfortunately. And I just think backs are more likely than not to really disrupt play.

Flowers to me was the epitome of the flawed execution by Hahn with the last group, where he took a club weakness and replaced it with essentially probable veteran marginal upgrades. In the future, if we are going to get rid of someone providing average production to the club, we better do it with a big jump in talent. Our journey to upgrade ended up shuffling out players we'd have been better off keeping for players we hoped would replicate career years that never came. -
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) A lot of guys here fell in love with him, but most of the smarter minds took Saladino for what he is: a solid utility player. Congrats on the debilitating back injury.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 08:31 AM) That settles it then: Collins is fine. .209 in H-A is a lot better than .209 in L-A. If you are going to complain about their age level in their league you may as well get the league right.

Phil out. Not many execs left that Gar Forman can claim to be above. -
I really love fast players that play fast. Leury had highly graded speed and never seemed to really show it. Hanson is a blur.

Damn. Nice battle.
