  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) I still think we take Montes de Oca in the 2nd or 3rd. My prediction is de Oca doesn't go until round 6 or later
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:53 AM) Yes, strikeouts are just enormous. You go back to high k guys like Adam Dunn and Jim Thome, who both provided 40 homers and a lot of on base, their k rates in the minor leagues weren't all that high. They are only going to go higher with Kendall IMO. I know strikeouts were considered no big deal for a while, but to me that made no sense. The reasoning was an out was an out. But even then, runners couldn't advance, and it blew off putting a ball in play gave you a decent shot at a hit. Strikeouts for hitters meant nothing, yet k-rate for pitchers seemed almost most important. Very odd. I think it's turning, Astros seemed to want to get more contact guys this past year with Beltran and McCann instead of players like Castro. I say all of this,a nd was the one who found the hardball times article, but I just can't give up on Kendall. I really think there is something there that will be great.
  3. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:43 AM) I wonder how much of the Bukauskas talk is based on real info and how much is conjecture based on previous (non-Hostetler) picks. It seems like the Sox generally have few info leaks compared to some orgs. Anyways, if it comes to Bukauskas, Kendall, or White, i'd rather have White. I think more of it may just be people did not expect Bukauskus past 10 and are trying to figure out where he'd stop sliding.
  4. I think there are reasons to not get Kendall but one of those reasons is not that we have two 19 year old outfielders that are obviously going to pan out.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 11:44 PM) When are we gonna get an independents thread? There are no restrictions on you making one.
  6. I'd be kinda bummed with JB but recognize he's a pretty good pick we'd be somewhat fortunate to get.
  7. Yeah I thought more about this and I really hope he is not drafted. There is a special relationship between sports players and young fans and I don't think it's safe to put a possible pedophile in a position to take advantage of that.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 10:35 PM) Callis mentioning possible deals at 4 and 5 for high schoolers I know this is the boring guess but if McKay goes 1 couldn't it be Gore and Lewis?
  9. QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) I might be alone in this, but I sort of expect the Sox to be worse next year than they will be this year. There's still some solid talent that has to be moved. From Quintana and Shields, to the bullpen guys, Frazier, etc. Specifically though - when they don't have guys like Swarzak, Kahnle and Robertson to button down leads late....then it's really going to get ugly. Def possible. See the Phillies regression.
  10. Kendall, who looks awful, ropes a single to center for the first run for Vandy, steals a base and takes third on an error, then generates a run on the following grounder to 2nd.
  11. He'll move up with the draft. Relax.
  12. Guerrero with 2 hits including a double, and one walk in DSL. I missed that Trey was back in Birmingham. Overall a pretty nice night on the farm. Stephens/Giolito with nice starts, Hansen with more dominance, and overall decent offense.
  13. Holmberg just has the looks of that left gander that somehow sticks in league forever. Pretty nice results for us so far.
  14. I think it would be easier to draft him if this was not a "revelation". It's true you can't just marginalize these offenders who have served whatever sentencing to no careers, but I don't recall it being an activity they grow out of. Him being so young is the tough part, but it's such a grotesque crime that upends the lives of the victim. I don't know how I'd feel if I was the victim and knowing this person could make the highest level of sport with all that fame and money. It just seems off, I can't really see drafting him.
  15. Sorry I edited his name wrong like 3 times in title.

7 innings no runs 7 Ks for Adams 5 hits for Fisher

    Fisher too.
  18. If you want to take a market efficiency approach to the draft, you can't just assume every player ends up at the same production in the same position. If you look at the analysis of college/high school 1b, tell me how they stack up in mlb production vs others.
  19. can we please release Everth Cabrera then?
  20. I did my five votes today
  21. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) It seems odd to me that it would cost 10x as much in a country like France, but I can assure you one thing. It is not the professional services (engineering services) driving this cost discrepancy. We are paid well relative to other professions as a whole but not THAT well and typically account for only ~10-25% of the entire project cost depending upon complexity. And it's not like France doesn't have public unions. That's why a report is necessary. We know that the buy american laws are so hamhanded they are causing some cost issue. But I'd guess some other mix of NIMBY, supply regulations, and poor decision structures are creating it. But LA just did it a lot cheaper. So that's why it may be something solveable.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) I missed it, how did he hurt himself? Abreu caught it behind the bag, had to beat the pitcher, Kiermaier decided to slide and did it last minute at full speed and basically caught his foot on the bag. Abreu sure seems to be involved in a lot of these.
  23. You know what's a small thing that annoys me to an outsized degree, but for seemingly no reason at all a report that was aimed to understand the cost discrepancies between New Yorks subway expansion to other cities/countries was defunded, so in the future if a big dense city wants to do an infrastructure project it doesn't know why it costs 10x per mile to do it in US v. France

  25. Astros to me were always going for the Dodgers model of lots and lots of depth.
