  1. Sorry for catch-alling the crap out of this thread, but BA's top 10 prospect list for cardinals came out and Magneurius Sierra was ranked ahead of Bader who slipped way down their list. bmagnerius is still alive. edit: mentioned because about 1000 posts ago we discussed Cardinals.
  2. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) Trust me, I'm right there with you but seems like Meadows isn't a realistic option. FWIW, a Pirates ESPN guy suggested a Glasnow/Keller, Bell & Newman deal with another lower level piece or two. Thoughts on this? I would take that. But I know Bell is a bit controversial here. I'd certainly take that back to the Astros.
  3. QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) Man is Cameron phoning it in these days. Where to even start with how lazy that argument is? You choose wOBA as a single stat to make your argument? So, let's just ignore how much better Q has been the last two years, the defense behind him, the park he pitched in, the framing differences, the 70 extra innings he threw, the two years younger he is, the contract affordability, and most of all there is no argument that anything should be framed as Q vs. McHugh. It's what does Q do to their rotation, and team, as a whole? Also Quintana working with some of the worst framers in the league vs Astros having the best.
  4. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) He could always be Diaz-ignated for assignment. Hmm...*golf clap*
  5. I would recommend listening to Callis on Garfein's podcast dropped last night. He wasn't that worried about fastball decline and mentioned how the Nats were jerking him up and down after each start. It's more easy for me to imagine and understand Giolito after going through the ups and downs with Rodon. It's hard to imagine how a guy with a 97 fastball and slider like he has not dominating, and left handed to boot! But to consistently harnass that power isn't always a clear line. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...uture-white-sox
  6. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) .265/.300/.410 14 HR's and 22 steals with above average D at SS. Holy crap this is exactly what I was about to post.
  7. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) If the Astros really work by the numbers as some have suggested, this article may help explain why they aren't that interested in Quintana: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/do-the-astr...-jose-quintana/ If a team in the running for a world series wants to roll with the idea that McHugh is actually as good as Quintana, more power to them. Wanna knock quintana because his ERA looks better because of unearned runs? Well, at least let me say that Quintana has often played in front of terrible defense.
  8. In all this was it lost that Buster Olney said the Yankees haven't discussed Quintana in "weeks"? Always funny when the after trade articles are written how different the actual movements were vs what was reported.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) This is the part I dont see. They are probably gonna be looking up at the Cubs and Cardinals for the foreseeable future. I don't know, I like it though. Pirates were in wilderness so long, I'd want them to take a punch for another year. Q/Cole is a nice 1-2 and they have the arms to make a really good pitching staff. Marte was oft-injured last year and I think the Cutch post mortems were written a little soon. Their bullpen though, questionable.
  10. This "new rumored team a day" is a much better pace
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 08:37 AM) What does this phrase mean? Rising up the prospect rankings a la balloon with helium
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) I honestly think if Newman is the second piece coming back, also getting a lesser top 100 prospect like Hayes is fair. Kopech & Lopez both had a ton of helium and are better prospects than Newman IMO. Also, it's not like getting three top 100 types is unheard of. The Nationals were offering three for Sale with two of those guys being top 10 types. The Phillies got three top 100 guys for Hamels, although I don't think there was a headliner like Meadows involved. Regardless, it all depends on where these guys are ranked on these lists, as not all top 100 prospects are the same. I think Hayes is more doable. Tougher to say you gave up top three prospects when others did not (unless you consider bell/Trillin prospects)
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 07:47 AM) No need for a strike thrower with the potential of being a ground ball machine? I'm saying our hypotheticals have been over each time. It's unlikely we get three top 100 prospects when one of those is a near ready top ten.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 05:23 AM) If Buster is reporting that in the middle of the night, do you guys think discussions were happening at that time Olney always starts the day with articles and bits of news like this.
  15. Of all our potential center pieces Meadows is my favorite.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 07:04 AM) Cy Acosta, where are ya buddy? There is finally a legit rumor involving the Pirates. How about Meadows (#9), Newman (#42), Keller (#72) and Diaz? Gives the Sox a return of two top 50's, a top 100 and a catcher that profiles to at least be a backup MLB C with good defensive skills and strong arm. There's no need for Keller, our other deals have not included a third top 100 guy.
  17. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 09:32 PM) Man I hope Melton gets a chance to pronounce this name in the spring. Sox have an interesting guy in the el jay montgomerun
  18. I would take Judge but it's a hard decision. Judge is closer to show and has shown a good walk rate. Mateo could provide us with an infield like the Phillies 05-10 teams Edit: thought phillies had better 3b than Feliz. It would be good, let's say that.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) Realistically, they haven't developed much of anything in the position player realm for a decade now. True, you could even say the all power no hit tool no batting eye is the rare player we have graduated to the show.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Judge has huge power potential and that's pretty tantalizing to fans of a team that plays in a small park and yet does not hit enough home runs. I completely understand why Sox fans would want Judge, despite the fact I'd prefer other Yankee prospects over Judge. There's a weird piling on of judge right now. I don't necessarily want him in a Q deal, but sometimes players do need time to develop. He dramatically improved between years 1 and 2 in AAA as you'd like to see. He strikes out, but he was still k'ing at under 30% in AAA and walking at a nice 12% clip. In his abysmal, small sample size, he still walked 10% of the time.

There was an urgency to Rogue One that elevated it. TFA was a long opening episode that didn't really tell a story. Once you removed the delight of seeing the band back together it did not hold up well. The cutting from location to location was really Bourne esque though. Was a bit too much in first 25 minutes.
  22. One of the comments on that yankees thread said the White Sox had a better offense and I laughed, then I looked it up and couldn't believe White Sox scored more runs than the Yankees last year.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) Until proven otherwise, 2018 seems like the year the Yankees would like to be "under" the luxury tax level if they're ever going to do so. I'm not sure if they're serious about actually doing that, but even with Chapman under contract they have a bunch of space available next offseason without hitting that line. The motivation for going for Quintana now would be: Give team a chance in 2017 and 2018 Do so without adding a large payroll boost in 2018 where new payroll would still be hit by the tax penalty Do so without removing team's payroll flexibility in 2018 when they want to start playing the FA market but without crossing the tax line. They'd be doing this because they'd think they have a shot at the Wild Card in 2017, and I'm not sure they'd be wrong based on their 2016 experience. They'd be grabbing Quintana specifically because he could help them make a run at that without damaging what they need to do to make Harper affordable. Thanks, this is what I was going to write. Yanks clearly have Harper earmarked for 18 and as such want to get under "repeat offender" tax before then. Quintana allows them to be competitive while not raising money. If ever there was a case to take on salary, this would be it (Headley). There were compelling reasons why Q put teams like the Astros over the top, but the Yankees are a compelling team because of Qs contract. This is also largely what pinstripe alley argues.
  24. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) I think in order for a trade to happen, Boston would have to be willing to part with Devers which probably won't happen, unfortunately. I could see a package of Travis/Groome/Ockime/Dalbec being reasonable. Man that package makes me gag. That is a serious downgrade from every other package we've discussed imo.
