  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 11:10 PM) https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/heres-why...-054109774.html Passan...Here's Why the Future Dodgers Are Downright Scary No one has posted that in this thread before right above you.
  2. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) Damnit I still wish to this day that KW found a way to pull that trade off. For about an hour, soxtalk thought we had him. C - AJP 1b - Konerko/Cabrera 2b - Alexei SS - Uribe (assume no Cabrera trade) 3b - Cabrera/Crede RF - TCQ CF - ? LF - JD DH - Thome/Cabrera One of the more respectable lineups
  3. Yeah wow, that's hilarious that our offer ended up better but at the time they got two top ten prospects and we were dangling Fields and Gio.
  4. I have a hard time believing we were ever actually close for Cabrera. Our rumored deal was sooooooooo much worse than Detroits. I think Marlins just used us, and Kenny was more than happy to act like he landed a big fish (PUN INTENDED!)
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) If someone sign Otani to a say a crazy $40 million signing bonus due to his restrictions, the team would have to pay an additional $40 million for a tax penalty correct? Or did these rules change in the new CBA? Cap on the signing. Can not go over 10 million.
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 04:21 PM) Would you rather sign Otani and no LA players, thus hurting your presence in LA? Or would you not sign Otani and sign LA players to keep your LA presence strong? Otani all day. ALL DAY.
  7. I imagine a few selling points: - Large Japanese expat population/Japanese Americans - Team willing to let him play 2 positions - Location - Media Market - How good team is No idea how any of those would be weighted for him.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) I don't think it would give us a big guy by itself, but maybe it upgrades one of the prospects to a higher level guy. Right but I don't think they are interested in Q at his market price. Even if we take McCarthy. They want their Bellingers and Calhouns.
  9. Doubt it. IF he signs, guarantee it will be a bridge deal until he is 25. League instead of being upset, will be thrilled that their shortsighted move did not end up screwing them out of the added revenue of the Japanese Leagues' Babe Ruth coming to play in the MLB.
  10. Is there a chance? No. But they'd be stupid not to try.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) It is why I would be open to a trade for Q that also included us taking on a McCarthy, especially if it maximized the upside pieces we could get (and I think that would be an easier sale across the board for the Dodgers front office). See I still don't read that and think they are at all interested in gutting their system. Just that they would see value in removing $10 million for a 10-20 prospect.
  12. Should there be any reason why the Winter Meetings matter? No. Is it an artificial deadline that does in fact spur movement? Of course it does. EE right now is SO similar to Cespedes/Gordon last year. We all think his value is cratering, it will continue to drag out, then all the sudden there will be a bidding war as a team splurges to make him their last piece. But Quintana shouldn't really be waiting on a market. Nor should Robertson. I'm interested to see what happens there, I expect it before Christmas but it feels SO LONG since we've had our last activity but in fact it was less than a week ago.
  13. Cowboys had that line last year. They also had a great rush attack. And their qb play was so bad that they finished with a worse record than the bears in spite of that. Dak has help, most good QBs do, but what he is doing as a rookie is fantastic, and with a 5th round pick no less. SO no, Prescott on the bears is not David Fales, we have last year as a bench mark guys.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) Is that recent? I think with the lack of much anything going on, if a deal goes down, it will be with a team that hasn't been heavily discussed (at least from a recent rumor perspective). It was last friday, just after the meetings. The worst part about the Winter Meetings ending every year is there are no more deadlines. Remember that the Cespedes saga lasted for WEEKS, and Alex Gordon hadn't signed for another 3 weeks from now.
  15. Just an insane read: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/13/us/polit...n-dnc.html?_r=0 So much in here that it's hard to even pull out a specific passage.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) Are there likely to be any other big name closers on the market at the deadline this year? Assuming normal things like "Cleveland doesn't fall apart". Herrera, K-Rod come to mind just from our division as possible if their teams break down a bit. Good rundown in the Trade section: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/find...ext-closer.html
  17. I was skeptical of this strategy and have been talking both sides of this, so take my analysis with a grain of salt. http://www.espn.com/blog/buster-olney/insider/post?id=15365 But I read that and think "huh, maybe taking McCarthy WOULD get us back a prospect".
  18. On the other hand, dark and gritty sounds fun but it really is weird to have a star wars film that my nieces and nephews can't see even though we have bought them lego sets for it.
  19. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) Rogue One review: this is the first Star Wars movie to acknowledge the whole franchise is about war Mind. Blown. Had no idea. I liked that review. Terrible title. But what I get from it is this movie gets away from things like entire planets being blown to bits as a shallow plot device and instead to the brutality that would spawn such a longstanding resistance. This is a war movie. The others are adventure movies.
  20. I agreed with twitter that Perry would have been a good HUD pick.
  21. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) "The Bears should've drafted Prescott" is such a lazy, useless statement that conveys no actual constructive thought. I don't know. I think a lot of us thought when they traded up in the 4th to land Kwiatkowski it was going to be Dak. And a lot of the "internet helium" picks have turned out to be pretty good players.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) He just had his first throwing session since TJS Blake Hickman ‏@BlakeHickman18 18h18 hours ago First day of throwing went well. Felt great to get back after it a little bit. Man I thought he was going to start throwing in August. I guess that was probably just long toss.
