Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) Why do you think an Indians signing of Encarnacion incentives the Astros? Just that the BoSox and Cleveland looks clearly better than them in pitching and closed gap in offense and are not going away next 3 years. Do you really want to bet on your SP health and prospects or make yourself as competitive as possible?

Indians sign Edwin Encarnacion
I bet Detroit is better than we expect. Royals too.

If encarnacion signs with Indians, I expect the Astros to come crawling back.

And, as others have coined, Moncada was untouchable.

Yes, we do have hope and that is that the twins despite a much better looking lineup on paper ended up as the #1 pick this past year because AL ist sehr gut.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
The best part of rebuilding is being able to experiment with less than sure things or also-rans from other orgs and see who sticks. We were so hanging on a thread needing every bit of production we couldn't develop at major league level and we pushed everyone up to major league level as soon as we could squeeze an ounce of production from them. I am 100% confident one of our experiments (or more) will pan out next 2 years.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) Trade Quintana, Jones and Robertson and yes, we are probably one of the worst teams. Frazier, Melky, Abreu, Anderson are enough to keep us semi decent, but the utter lack of bullpen and pitching means we need to score 10 runs to win AL teams will run train on a depleted White Sox roster Unfortunately the Padres are trying to throw out a starting rotation inspired by the expendables

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) Yeah glad we still feel good asking that much but that deal (Meadows, Glasnow and Bell/Newman) is the best deal we've seen so far. I'd be pumped if we see Meadows, Newman, etc as our package. Reading the rest of this article and realizing this is total speculation by Gregor.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2016122...orts/161229711/ No source provided, but speculation that the White Sox asking price to the Pirates is Glasnow, Meadows plus either Bell or Newman I love it. Keep the pricetag really high and force a team's hand. Quintana's contract is especially valuable given the massive free agent deals being handed out left and right. The key for the White Sox is getting the Pirates to agree in priciple for Meadows and Glasnow to headline the deal...and then possibly allow them to negotiate you down to a player like Hayes as the final piece Yeah glad we still feel good asking that much but that deal (Meadows, Glasnow and Bell/Newman) is the best deal we've seen so far. I'd be pumped if we see Meadows, Newman, etc as our package.

I guess that would be a very pirates thing to do trying to offset the very cheap Quintana contract by moving Cutch and getting Conforto, but in my head if Q going to the Pirates requires Meadows it will just be a straight up deal and they will avoid the fan headache of losing the hometown star.

QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) They would be able to keep Bell and still get a controllable outfielder in Comforto. They could then move Marte to ceneterfielf. But are you better with Conforto in LF than Cutch? Even his down year was better than Conforto last year.

QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) White Sox Get: Tyler Glasnow((Pit), Dominic Smithl(NY), Austin Meadows(Pit) Mets Gets: Andrew McCuthen(Pit) and David Robertson(Chi) Pirates Get: Jose Quintana(Chi), Michael Comforto(NY) Justin Dunn (NY) Pirates get two high end guys with control and a young prospect Mets: They get there centerfielder and closer White Sox: We get two high end position players with a young stud prospect pitcher. Close? This is a good example for me. I don't see why Pirates would feel need to include 3rd team if they still need to trade Meadows. I would assume 3rd team is to prevent losing Meadows/Bell.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:58 PM) Yeah I agree. I don't see a scenario where the Pirates don't get fleeced and the Mets don't give up enough Exactly, especially since I'm not quite sure why they are focused on McCutchen to start with

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
This will be very interesting if its a 3 way trade but super complicated. I haven't seen one yet where I completely get motivation from all three sides.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) Could be that some team has met the price asked, and it's time for all the others to try to top it or look for another 5.0 WAR a year pitcher that is controlled for 4 more years at $38 million. Right, I wrote this last night but the post-mortems on the Sale trade seem to have indicated a timeline where Boston had agreed to a framework of Moncada/Kopech and then the flurry of Nats aggressive to get Sale came as the sox were putting heat on Boston to include Devers. I guess Sox at some point decided there was no escalation short of turner that Nats could offer to overcome Moncada as a headliner and moved forward. So yes, some team may have the basic framework and sox are putting heat on the non headliner, because it was not the case that Boston's final agreed to piece was Moncada, it was Basabe/Diaz.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
He's a nice piece for them because he does help bridge their pitching staff which is about to get a lot more expensive, but I doubt they would get rid of a major contributor to their offense in Schwarber and then some. Especially with Int'l FA and the Draft about to get a lot harder for them, they may be very cautious what trade chips they go after.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) That's exactly what I had in mind. The cubs FO knows that I'd they were to make a serious play for Q that it would cost them and they know the Sox are in the driver's seat. So Theo, how desperate are you? I'm gonna guess not that desperate.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
NBA season doesn't really become important until after Christmas. This is about what I expected prior to their scorching first 3 games. But their bench is as terrible as I imagined.

Presidential Power Rankings
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) Let's look at some Bush 43 leadership moments. Not policy stuff like NCLB or economic or environmental or infrastructure initiatives, or privacy related policy, but truly executive performance in response to crises and desperate needs... Positives: --After a few hours of unsteadiness, once he got his feet under him, he handled the first few weeks and months after 9/11 quite well. Negatives: --Started an illegal and clearly unfounded war that killed 6,000 Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and others and cost a TRILLION dollars, while spending much of the nation's political capital for a LESS stable environment in the end and no discernable gain. --Allowed Afghanistan to wallow in failure when he took so many troops and so much money out of it for the above. --Stumbled through a failed response to Katrina, and the days and weeks and months after. --Failed to recognize the signs of the debt bubble and OTC markets that ballooned during this tenure, resulting in the Great Recession Again, not talking policy points that tend to be partisan here. Looking at stuff that is leadership and non-partisan. He was, overall, a pretty epic failure on most of his responses to major threats to the country, internal and external. I sort of like Bush on a personal level. Would love to have a beer with him. But he was a poor executive who allowed members of his inner circle to steer him into disasters, and he was never strong enough to push back. As an executive he had lots of incompetent administrators that he let run wild until he set some of them right in 06. Also - the AG scandal where he removed attorneys for refusing to pursue baseless cases on voter fraud, which was just to serve the purpose of voter suppression.
