Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
bmags replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) The Pirates could easily have decided that 2 years of control on their entire OF has made Meadows expendable and that Quintana is the perfect target for them to pursue with Meadows as a huge chip. They may also be in "Toronto" mode now, where they had been planning to build a steady, consistent ship, but seeing their first stars nearing their end and restless fans that they'll never be good enough, they go in Alex Anthropoulos DGAF mode and ante-up -

My guess is its out in the agentsphere that Pirates are in on Quintana. This reminds me of the Nats so much. -

QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:16 AM) The Pirates have agreed to sign right-hander Ivan Nova to a three-year, $26MM deal, Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports. The deal contains a $2MM signing bonus. Surprised that's all he could swing after a stellar second half. Obviously he may have taken less AAV for multi years but making less than Cashner in a year is somethin -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) I'd say Pittsburgh is in the lead but well see if Houston ponies up or if New York is like Boston and tops everyone. That's the way I feel. I think Cashman is sitting back saying, no, this is the new way, we need to develop from within, doesn't matter what others are doing the yankees are doing this the right waAAAARRRR I AM YANKEE I HAVE BEST PLAYER NOW -

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) You think the Nationals are better at developing pitchers than the White Sox? The pirates. Edit: wrote original comment on train. Second they is pirates. -

My only comment re Glasgow is while I'm all about grabbing top pitchers from Nats they couldn't get a handle on I'm less bullish we can turn around a prospect they couldn't develop themselves. They are probably better than us at this. -

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 10:49 PM) There's been multiple reports that the Yankees never got past the "Oh you want Frazier or Torres?" stage. If there are two teams bidding against each other, I would guess it's between Houston & Pittsburgh. And the Red Sox were set with their rotation. -

If I'm to understand the timeline of the Sale trade correctly, the times we were hearing that the Nats were being aggressive and the hardest pursuers was actually when Nats were just trying to match Bostons top two. Sox appeared to be putting pressure on Sox to include devers but then decided basabe and Diaz made Boston deal better than Nats could offer. So possible that others still trying to match a Houston/Yankees offer. -

I don't think other GMs are thinking about Nats/Eaton trade. They see 3-4 other teams that make sense and have the pieces, and all of them would like to acquire Q while using as few of those pieces as possible. We will get a good deal for Q, and we will also get a deal that is almost certainly less than we are imagining. -
Also logical landing places for Abreu/Frazier/Cabrera

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:00 PM) Peralta is unflippable. Sox will just be picking up the money and letting him wallow somewhere on the diamond. As for Bader, looks like he'd fit the theme of grabbing guys who have had their stocks slip a bit for dubious reasons. I'd be happy to get him I was just surprised how much his stock fell from his AAA stint. He was moved fairly aggressively and had largely raked everywhere else. -

I know Illinois basketball fans are pretty down right now too but honestly feels like Missouri basketball has been destroyed in a way that is hard to come back from. Three straight years of nearly all sophomore/juniors transferring away after season. It's like what happened to kU football post Mangino. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 08:30 PM) I think the Cardinals will eventually offer Bader for Frazier when the time comes, though that moment won't come until EE signs. Melky is a more of a deadline player for a team making the playoff push that is light on LHH or has suffered some OF injuries. He's a guy where his impending free agency might actually help his value as teams who find a spot opened for him by injury will likely have an incumbent LF to open 2018 that they don't want to unseat. I would not be surprised if he's dealt, hit FA and then comes back to the Sox on a 2 year deal. He seems to get on pretty well here. Interesting how Bader fell in the latest BA cardinal rankings: https://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2017...p-10-prospects/ -

We went through the same untouchables phase with Sale. Nobody who offers their top prospect wants to get in a bidding war for even more. The top prospect is your trump card so you better make sure it gets you your guy. -

Cool story -
QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 04:43 PM) ....thats like 10% of the list.... When Jones, Abreu, Robertson, Frazier, Migo, Jennings, Melky and Lawrie get moved its entirely possibly we're looking at 15 of the top 100. I think after Q goes it's likely only Jones/Frazier could bring back a top 100 prospect. And Frazier may only bring back a back end one.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 04:46 PM) That totally is a measure of the marketplace versus what the Sox are looking for. If they were getting big offers, there would be about 10 guys would be gone. Market isn't really moving aside from Sox either. The closer market moved but that's about it. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) Have the Rockies ever been actually linked to Quintana? Nope, but if you want a long shot, we at one point had been discussing Quintana trades including rox trades and bucket said many trade propositions in our thread were close to what was being discussed. Basically a done deal Q to Rockies. -

Not me, the last few years of our position players have me dreaming of the days where I thought Jose Valentin was a problem. I miss the swagger he brought to the white sox. He supplied more in person highlights for me than possibly any other sox player (I maybe saw 4 walk offs from him?) But I digress. Jose Valentin for HOF -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) Why so down on Rodgers? Down is relative, those players are all incredible. Rodgers is the lowest because to me he is riskiest. Torres at same level makes me rank him higher because of reports on his superior pitch recognition and plate discipline as well as defensive remarks. I'd be so so so happy to get any of them. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) "Everything about Starkiller Base makes a lot of sense given how DS 1 and DS 2 went down. You have a much more protected cooling shaft, the weapon is in a planet to prevent Falcons from flying in, plus the shield generator is on that planet and under the shield and it doesn't keep the power in a core, but rather sucks up a star, so it's only vulnerable to a cascade explosion when it's about to fire. But they found a way anyway because the Skywalker family and friends are having none of your bulls***." From Reddit You know, that may be but it really loses its luster when they hand-wave it away to say "There's always a way to blow it up"

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) It depends on the top player involved. Houston would be #1 if Bregman was involved. They fall down the list if not. If we are getting the top position player prospect from each team? Houston NYY LAD Colorado Pittsburgh I don't see us as much of a match for Texas. Wow I'm shocked you view Meadows that poorly. For me it's Bregman/Meadows/Torres/Bellinger/Rodgers in that order.
