Remaining Free Agents
Would like to know how CBA may have been different if players saw this offseason where so few teams are willing to sign veterans for depth/holes.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
I don't know, the reality is Glasnow + Newman is more than probably than 26 other teams could offer at this point. And of the others are teams like phillies/brewers that aren't in Qs market. So when it's just pirates vs yanks/braves/rox and two of the three are hypothetical, why do they feel pressure to offer bell/Meadows right away?

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Asking for Bell is no where near asking for Betts. That's ridiculous.

3 Remaining Needs: NL West
Giants say they are tapped out and probably view all of their internal options for outfield more favorably. Not to say they aren't a candidate at deadline if that fails.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
The Rondo signing was inexcusable. Any scout watching that guy intently could see the same problems as now. They didn't care, Gar is smarter than everyone. But beyond that, it's now a thing that our drafts post the scout that left us for the magic have been brutal. But watching the 76ers/twelves/etc, rebuilding is too hit or miss in NBA. Just keep going and see what happens.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) Lol Phil Rogers strikes again. Seemingly completely unaware of the Dodgers active roster, the fact that the Dodgers are actively trying to reduce long-term dead money, or the fact that De Leon is close to being the centerpiece in a Dozier deal, which is a player the Dodgers actually need. Eh, Rogers wrote it a week ago and dodgers acquiring too many outfielders has been a thing for a while. And I was more sympathetic to idea Dodgers cared about salary prior to Jansen, Turner and Hill. Not to say this happens but Phil has written much worse than an offseason 8 hypothetocal trades articles.

I can't see ATL trading for him after basically saying "he's not Chris Sale". Whatever reading you have of that, a weird thing to say before trading for him.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) DeLeon is supposed to be the headliner for a Twins/Dozier deal, so that sounds a bit fishy. Well it's Phil Rogers.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) Why would the Dodgers want McCutchen? Rogers is really reaching with that one. I think the biggest problem with the trade market is the abundance of teams rebuilding plus fringe teams that seem to be standing pat. There's not as many teams interested in players like Blackmon, McCutchen, Todd Frazier and so on. If Dodgers have given up on Puig the Mccutchen makes sense. Their OF is fine.

Sweet. Not shocked on Torres after word he may have moved up to top prospect status. But that Frazier is available is encouraging.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
I am restless for news but not yet for result. With the Astros, I legit worried they would settle for a Duffy/etc. But if we are to believe Q has a market of pirates/NYY, they are interested in Q for his abilities + contract, and the only other pitcher like that is Archer, who is likely more expensive given past reputation of how Tampa trades. The teams left, they know their fair price for Q. But Knowing a price is fair and then pulling the trigger are two different things. It will happen, no need to be fatalistic yet.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) That's an awful trade for the Sox. Pitt gives up Bell and Diaz for Q? Not a chance. Yes they get rid of Cutch, but still crazy to me. That's an awful trade for the Sox? That would be by far the best trade they've made thus far.

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 09:47 PM) The quiet is a bit disconcerting, especially with how close things seemed and how quickly talks picked up Tuesday. Starting to get a little nervous. There hasn't even been a real FA signing. It appears these people aren't above the xmas to ny vacation.

Sox eyeing FA sluggers
I'd prefer one of the outfielders like Saunders or Rasmus over a moss/carter/morneau. Offers more versatility to trade. But they may come at a 8 million price. I imagine we'll want to trade Robertson to be able to sign one of those.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) I'm not arguing what Todd Frazier would be worth in this market, I'm arguing what he'd be worth during the 2017 season for a team that acquires him. Turner is coming off a career year, while Frazier is coming off a dissapointing one. There's no doubt that Turner would get more in this market. Having said that, it's quite apparent that teams didn't view Turner as a 5+ WAR player (which they shouldn't), but that he also took a sizable hometown discount. His $16M AAV does reflect his true market value IMO. What's interesting though is that Frazier was the superior player in 2014 & 2015. With a strong rebound in 2017 Frazier could easily eclipse Turner's contract next offseason, especially when you consider he won't cost a team their 1st round pick. Again, I think some posters here are seriously undervaluing Frazier because of his poor 2016 season. I fully expect a 3+ WAR season out of him next year and that should be very valuable come the deadline no matter what market rate you place on WAR. We aren't talking about how good Frazier is, we are talking about his market value. And his market is tiny. Tiny markets don't lead to overspending. His value to the white Sox at this point is largely what other players he'll create for us.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 09:51 PM) When did Todd Frazier become a DH? Am I missing something here? And Encarnacion is a 34 year old DH in a huge buyer's market who would cost a team their 1st round pick and was still able to get $21.7M/year in guaranteed money. The 2017 1B/DH market the 2018 3B market, so let's not pretend it's somehow predictive. As for Justin Turner, he clearly took a hometown discount. I don't buy for a second that's how the market valued him. You really think teams believe Turner is only worth $5M than Kendrys Morales? Or only $6M more than Andrew Cashner? Come on Balta, you're better than this. I am certain that if Todd Frazier were a FA this year he would make less than Turner. Frazier is not worth that much. Good player though.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 08:03 PM) Because I don't see their values going up, I'm in the camp that you have to trade Frazier at the least for whatever you get for him. If nothing else, we have a guy who can crew that position right now who I want to see play there for a full season. As much as I hate to say it, and mind you I HATE to say it, there's less motivation to move Cabrera because there's no one pushing that position who might be worth anything of value, so you might as well hold onto him and see if someone gets hurt on another team and they suddenly think he can fill in. Come to think of it, Frazier will be 2nd or third best 3b on next market, so maybe likely he takes QO

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
My guess for rest of offseason: Trade Q Trade Robertson Put Jones in as closer, Trade Jones at deadline. Can't move melky for more than a salary dump. Sox need to make decision if Frazier return is better than a 2nd or 3rd round salary allotment.
