  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) I heard that Meadows is unavailable, because they still expect to trade McCutchen, and Meadows would be the heir apparent. Where did you hear this?
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) It's more or less that I have an easier time seeing them balking an including Mazara, whereas the Astros seem to think Q sucks. Less that Q sucks imo than amazing confidence that Martes Musgrove and Tucker are all guaranteed all stars
  3. Nightengale tweeting that Raines is a virtual lock at this point. Congrats RockRaines!
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) Rank your trade partners: Yankees Pirates Rockies Rangers Astros When you think Rangers what players are you thinking of?
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) They went from almost trading Cutch to trade the farm for Quintana a window is open? I have no doubt they would love to add Quintana. I have no doubt they have asked about him. What I do doubt is that they are willing to pay the price. They could be "working hard", but how hard is it? This is what it would take, yes or no? Here are some possible catalysts: - There was huge blowback from the McCutchen rumors - The rumor of the deal the Pirates thought they had for Cutch was based around Giolito, who is a dynamic cost controlled arm that could be ready for 2017 ( and someone the Pirates esteemed pitching coach could have been drooling over) - That would have been banking on Meadows being ready and getting them more long term pitching - Quintana satiates the same cost controlled arm while continuing to bet on city favorite mccutchen. It's a bit of shuffling around but that seems more normal to me. This whole "you are either the best team in the league or you should sell everyone" mentality is kinda weird for me to live in. The bucs waited 2 decades to be good, why sell their window short after 3 years?
  6. I don't think we need to worry about our returns not being met yet. The market has slowed considerably from the Winter MEetings, but we haven't even seen a near-end to the free agent class. Look at the players still available! This year with pitching what it is and the farms of winning teams getting better, now is the time and we will get a good offer. Just remember that the teams that are playoff bound WILL continue to add, so some of these prospects may be gone and gone to teams who are rebuilding as well.
  7. I wish the possibility of Meadows wasn't dangled in front of my face as it is now much harder to get off of it.
  8. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) Yep, this was easily the best thing to come out of the movie and can finally end the 40 year criticism of why they would ever design it like that. Doesn't it undercut the latest installment though? This was their THIRD attempt, and it was just as easy to destroy.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) I like that the team site has an article about this rumor, might actually be some legs here. Much better outcome than the rumor being shot down right away (as with Yankees)
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) That was just one. And even with that, he kept pushing increases in government spending programs, while tamping down on consumer spending. It was idiotic. So curious then what Carter did that was so much worse?
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) Ford had a bunch of ideas on fixing the economy, virtually all of which made things substantially worse. His idea to kick inflation and a declining economy was to tell people not to spend. I mean.
  12. Any package with meadows is the best in my opinion. It will be hard for any team to make it up in the back end. Yankees including Torres and 3-4 others would only be close. Astros would have a lot to do to make that up.
  13. Ford pardoning Nixon and entering a norm that US executives were essentially above law and any criminal activity would be politicization was among the worst actions of the 20th century. He also did not do anything of note as a president. He did something nice with the Handicapped Children act but his response to rising inflation and a declining economy was largely urging private citizens to solve the problem. He was not good. Carter while dealing with many more foreign problems at least has a litany of sound and good domestic policy achievements that are taken for granted now but not enough to elevate him above the serious matters he could not tackle.
  14. So, I'm reading this right now: http://www.bucsdugout.com/2016/12/21/14037...intana#comments Clearly if we had to make trades with fans the Pirates and Yankees fans >>>> Astros fans.
  15. Astros fans assertion that Martes and Musgrove were already in the bank as being equal to Quintana was unbelievably annoying to read.
  16. That paragraph is talking about Rodon see reference to slider.
  17. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/211...fseason-trades/ Really loved this article on John Tumminia (as caulfield often points out the father in law of Ben Cherington) and his work behind scenes prepping for this trade. Should be heartwarming to Soxtalk to note that he was also high on the Nats Severino.
  18. I know I'm putting some sort of cart device ahead of a horse-like animal, but to me Meadows is equal to getting a Bregman/Swanson etc. He needs AAA time, but this is a big time offensive prospect. And I know I'm counting some sort of animal harvesting shell before the animal pops out, but a future of Anderson, Moncada, Meadows, Collins is
  19. Sorry for catch-alling the crap out of this thread, but BA's top 10 prospect list for cardinals came out and Magneurius Sierra was ranked ahead of Bader who slipped way down their list. bmagnerius is still alive. edit: mentioned because about 1000 posts ago we discussed Cardinals.
  20. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) Trust me, I'm right there with you but seems like Meadows isn't a realistic option. FWIW, a Pirates ESPN guy suggested a Glasnow/Keller, Bell & Newman deal with another lower level piece or two. Thoughts on this? I would take that. But I know Bell is a bit controversial here. I'd certainly take that back to the Astros.
  21. QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) Man is Cameron phoning it in these days. Where to even start with how lazy that argument is? You choose wOBA as a single stat to make your argument? So, let's just ignore how much better Q has been the last two years, the defense behind him, the park he pitched in, the framing differences, the 70 extra innings he threw, the two years younger he is, the contract affordability, and most of all there is no argument that anything should be framed as Q vs. McHugh. It's what does Q do to their rotation, and team, as a whole? Also Quintana working with some of the worst framers in the league vs Astros having the best.
  22. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) He could always be Diaz-ignated for assignment. Hmm...*golf clap*
  23. I would recommend listening to Callis on Garfein's podcast dropped last night. He wasn't that worried about fastball decline and mentioned how the Nats were jerking him up and down after each start. It's more easy for me to imagine and understand Giolito after going through the ups and downs with Rodon. It's hard to imagine how a guy with a 97 fastball and slider like he has not dominating, and left handed to boot! But to consistently harnass that power isn't always a clear line. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...uture-white-sox
  24. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) .265/.300/.410 14 HR's and 22 steals with above average D at SS. Holy crap this is exactly what I was about to post.
