  1. That's a different argument.
  2. Is that true though? What is Quintana if you cut the effectiveness of his curveball in half?
  3. "A covert response would significantly limit the deterrence effect, he added. "If you can't see it, it's not going to deter the Chinese and North Koreans and Iranians and others." The Obama administration says it still has more than 30 days to do exactly that."
  4. Thank you. That is such a stupid comment re: Eaton type trade. Blackmon is on a 3 year deal (now), Eaton on a cheap 5 years of control. Eaton is 2 years younger. Eaton is better at everything except dingers.
  5. Guys our major league team will be awful next year. It's like you forgot how bad we were and now take away our cy young finalist and gold glove/all star snubbed outfielder.
  6. The one thing I'd be worried about if I were rockies is what is Quintana with a less effective curveball?
  7. If they include Reyes they are in the conversation, period. If they don't, hard to see match.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 08:01 AM) A full season of time in AAA is a Long time to keep someone there, if they're playing ell enough to earn the callup. With what they've already said it seems likely these guys start in AAA and are there at least long enough to give another year of team control - late May. Starting guys in AAA and letting their performance dictate when they get called up would already be dramatically different from the path we've had guys on the last 2 seasons where the needs of the big leagues squad determined who got called up more than if they were ready. While a #1 draft pick would be nice, if a guy has earned his callup out of that group, call him up. Turning these guys into successful big leaguers is more important to me than picking #1, and they may darn well hit the next level and struggle anyway even if they're succeeding in AAA. It sounds like this draft has some pretty high impact players anyway. Beer isn't even consensus.
  9. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) Who are the other teams though? Serious question. How many playoff contenders need pitching and have a top 25 (or close to it) prospect they are willing to give up? It's gotta be a very short list. Yankees, Rockies...they are the only 2 serious contenders I see. Pirates have a need for pitching and the prospects, but the odds of them trading 3-4 or good prospects for 1 guy seems very low to me. Cards, Indians, Rangers, Red Sox, Giants, Orioles, Mets, Nats, Cubs, Dodgers....all playoff contenders that aren't going to be trading for Q in my eyes. I could very much see cardinals in this mix just they have fewer bullets. Would need Reyes. Their fans are also obsessed with Kelten Wong as a trade piece but he's of little value to me. Though I do think he is a good bounceback candidate elsewhere.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 08:28 PM) The NYT times article already said this is exactly what the Obama admin did. Not really. It said US told Russia retribution would be coming and hinted at a big cyber attack before Jan 21
  11. https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/809397872202485760 Edit: see Post below. I misread first tweet. No "magic words" yet spoken. no one's said magic words yet for quintana. price should be v high. 4.5 avg war last 4 yrs. only issue's been run support. - Heyman
  12. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:19 PM) Unfortunately I have no patience. I'm in Thailand at the moment and my gf is starting to get angry at me for waking up at 5am to check my phone to see if any trades went down. Ugh, she needs to understand this is important!

Caleb Joseph is my new pick (or the Astros catcher we picked up on waivers)
  16. bmags replied to Real's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No Navarro ever and most of those catchers are bad framers.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 04:17 PM) I'd rather take a shot on some guy or give it to our own options. If we bring in a veteran catcher on a FA move, I want them to be able to catch the ball and work great with pitchers. I could care less if they can hit cause we aren't winning in the next year or two, but they better be able to help develop our young arms. If we go with a younger guy who has bellied up, I'm more okay being a bit flexible, but we should still make sure we have a guy who can really do a good job handling the pitchers in game. I mostly agree, I really do want a veteran catcher who can handle pitchers though. I also don't care if they can hit, but unfortunately there aren't many Sandy Alomar Jr's on the market.
  18. I'd prefer May in CF. I think Engel is a guy they can take their time on now.
  19. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) My dad was talking to me about this on Thanksgiving. Obamacare actually does have problems that need to be addressed, but Dems pretended it wasn't a thing. Granted, yes they did actually have tactical reasons for doing this (Republican-led states blocking Medicare expansion then letting people blame the Dems when premiums go up, the ACA having fixable problems but the GOP in Congress refusing to ever cooperate for any reason, etc.). That political dynamic is flipped now. Republicans are talking about keeping the parts everyone likes (the parts that cost money) and scrapping everything else (the part that pays for the parts everyone likes). They are realizing they can't really do that and it'll break it worse if they did, but they can't blame the Democrats since they control the entire government now. I don't think they pretended it wasn't a thing, they did not have votes to improve it and the opposition was talking about complete repeal so they had to defend it on the merits. Their complete cowardice in defending it though was embarrassing as now we finally get the tales of who it helped after years of just unopposed republicanthink that it was a disaster.
  20. I believe the correct term is Matt Purke Purke'd
  21. We should sign Greg Holland specifically so we can trade Drob to a more desperate team.
  22. Honestly think Jensen/Chapman was just useless star effing on Lorias part.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 11:10 PM) https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/heres-why...-054109774.html Passan...Here's Why the Future Dodgers Are Downright Scary No one has posted that in this thread before right above you.
  24. Merged with existing topic.
  25. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) Damnit I still wish to this day that KW found a way to pull that trade off. For about an hour, soxtalk thought we had him. C - AJP 1b - Konerko/Cabrera 2b - Alexei SS - Uribe (assume no Cabrera trade) 3b - Cabrera/Crede RF - TCQ CF - ? LF - JD DH - Thome/Cabrera One of the more respectable lineups
