QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) Young players who have fell out favor, lost value, no where to play to target. Dalton Pompey Kevin Plawecki Brandon Workman Hanser Alberto Jeimer Candelario Cory Spangenberg Jesse Winker I would like to inquire about Plawecki with Mets. I assume they could like relief help.

I thought this was very interesting:

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) If he can become good at framing and gamecalling, even if everything else about his defense is average, and his bat plays the way it projects according to scouts, he'll be one of the top Catchers in baseball. This probably answers my question as I was not aware he had a projectable bat.

I guess what I'm wondering is this though - how much do we value this marginal upgrade: Pena .235 .273 .376 .650 Severino .271 .316 .337 .653 I realize Severino has shown well in some ML games and Penas was between AA and AAA and the AA numbers were better. But, why use Robertson on that if Pena is supposedly SEverino's defensive equal?

Nationalizing was a definite thing I was imagining.

I love Twitter though. BUt seriously, he has shown an interest in no other medium aside from TV. Would be really strange what affect it would have. Like, if international incidents are happening from Trump @ing people...does Twitter say "naw thanks" and get out of the way?

What happens if Twitter folds? I've been wondering that recently.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) I wish someone in the know would address Giolito's loss of velocity. Probably a good topic for Northsider in some future thread. Keith Law touched on an insider piece that Nats messed with his mechanics last year. It is a red flag. -
Merk really established himself as next level beat guy. I know they have stretched Colleen Kane thin, but man she is 10 steps late to every party.

I'm kinda wondering if Severino has become an unhealthy obsession just because we are all familiar with him now. Is he that much better than the Astros catcher we just stuck in AAA?

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) http://tomahawktake.com/2016/12/06/2-moves...ake-after-sale/ This is one of the dumbest proposals that I have seen^^^ wow it's bad That was bad but everyone went after him. LOL at him thinking Sox were so concerned with filling out their 2017 rotation. -
People will be fine as long as the prospects are theoretical. They will freak out as soon as one starts to struggle.

2016-2017 NCAA football thread

I hope he fails again but OTOH I like Houston. -
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) I read that the Bosox were in on Wade Davis, and they were said to have interest in Robertson before. Question is would you rather trade Robertson for Servino or Swihart if we had the choice? Swihart but I really think DD was being truthful when talking about avoiding trades on any 2017 MLB pieces. I think they are going to use Swihart around field. Though I expect them to deal an SP.

QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:11 AM) I keep seeing Stubbs come up as a target. I saw him in the AFL this year, so I thought I would pass this along. I think his lack of attention as a prospect becomes obvious once you see him. He's lucky if he is 5'9" 160 lbs. I'm not kidding, he looked like the bat boy warming up the pitcher when he first came out. His arm strength was average at best and he clearly had an advanced approach at the plate, but there is little power projection in his swing. He would get by on average, because his OBP will not likely translate as well at the MLB level with the approach I saw. He has a lot to overcome to be a backup on an MLB roster. I would shoot for someone with better upside. That being said, he handled pitchers well and was really quick behind the plate. Collins seemed to be constantly talking to him, so he looked like a good mentor. That's crazy, I kinda of want to see him in action now.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) One thing of note that I haven't seen mentioned yet is that Robertson does have a limited no trade clause in which he can block a trade to 5 different teams. One of which is the Dodgers. The others don't really matter (Tigers, A's, Mets, Phillies). Ha. I found it hilarious when it turned out Matt Holliday signed a NTC with only Oakland on it.

Montero may not cost much but still not sure what we have to offer unless they want salary relief itself (which they may...)
-
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) What's the market for Robertson looking like right now? I'm too lazy to read all the threads to figure it out, lol Most I've seen says his market won't be defined until after Jansen/Chapman signed. 50% there. Some have hinted that people think his stuff declined last year so he is not as hot as he once was. I really hope we didn't receive more in July.

To those worried about the glutten of pitching prospects

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) The thing is, if Eaton is anywhere near a 5 or 6 WAR player the next 5 seasons, he probably was worth more in trade than Sale for the extra 2 years at the same total cash. Eaton, Q, those guys are undervalued by many, including people whose job it is to know these things. I was watching MLBN and someone was making a case why Eaton is not worth anything near Cutch in trade. That's just being lazy. Rizzo said his analytics people and old school scouting people were the same on Eaton. It's a huge asset to give up. I hope it works out. Hahn is going to see all his bargain basement team friendly deals go to other teams this off season. I doubt he has much luck having 3 or 4 of those types of contracts on one roster again. BTW, why do the call them the Winter Meetings when it isn't technically Winter? I agree. Frankly Sox got less for Eaton then many here hypothesized, but then immediately declared fleecing. But people just aren't used to seeing these types of prospects moved because Eaton/Sales/Quintanas only move when they have a deal left. It's crazy. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) Rizzo probably has a history of making fewer poor trades as any GM . The jump to conclusion he got hosed by a lot in the media and in the game concerns me. I hope he did get hosed, but he seemed very focused on cashing in on Giolito during these meeting. It doesn't mean he won't be burned. People were leery about dealing with Billy Beane and he traded Josh Donaldson for Brett Lawrie. I hope they are looking at packages for their other players that emphasize s postion players. Yeah, it's nice to have all these guys. But one or two or more may bust, or may get hurt. They have had a tough time forever developing hitters. Trade for some another team has done some developing. I don't think he got hosed, I just think Hahn got him in the perfect storm where because he did not have enough for Sale and Hahn was in those talks, he created a perfect value benchmark for Eaton. -
I don't know. If no Abreu/Frazier I can't see us being better than Reds. They still have Votto.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) As far as I'm concerned, 2017 is a lost year in terms of team competitiveness. Therefore, try out some guys who might have a shot at being something later, even if a small one. For the outfield, I think you need to get rid of Avi. But I have no problem with guys like Tilson, Coats and Liriano getting playing time (along with Melky of course if he's still here, which he shouldn't be). That's three guys who can play competent defense, and all have a non-zero chance of hitting enough to show that can at least be a future 4th OF and maybe, maybe, more. So give them a look. There's no 2017 playoff run to harm, and you might find something that ends up being helpful for 2018 and 2019. Avi is our David Ross. I can't wait for everyone to be crying at his World Series speech.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) I'm probably overreacting, but I feel like if Hahn deals Quintana and Abreu OR Frazier, this team may not win 55 games. It will be pretty pretty bad.

Rick Hahn has a feedback guy. My guess is its Marty34 and Rick is a sadist.
