  1. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:27 PM) http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/12/7/1...ez-dane-dunning John Sickels' take on the Eaton deal A-,B+,B is a great freaking trade
  2. QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) I think people underestimate the value of Frazier. I still think its possible to get 1-Top 100 Prospect and a lottery ticket for him or 2-Top 150 Prospects. Is it just me or is there just not a whole lot of top free agents signing happening. Encarcion, Chapman, Jansen, Turner all have not signed. Its strange to me. I think the big markets want to stay under the luxury tax for at least this year and its really hurting the market. Their are some good deals to be had. It's just a weird market for power hitters right now.
  3. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:18 PM) I get that, but a starter is still more valuable every time, and getting 2 TOR starters out of that deal would really kickstart things in the right direction. Not advocating moving him, just saying that's isn't the threat it once was.
  4. Pitchers pegged as dope bullpen pitchers not the disappointment it once was.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) They have to get elite for him. Just mean your giolito/moncada. Expect great value, but the Q deal is where our scouts need to be great.
  6. Might not get the "elite" guy back for Q. Hopefully can make up somehow.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:51 PM) OK, one thing we should know as Sox fans is that there is zero chance of them bidding on top line free agents when we are going to be coming off of two completely terrible season. We don't do that coming off of good seasons. I don't know why this has taken traction, but look at the White Sox free agent history, and tell me why there is any answer other than no. Abreu signing/Tanaka try was after 2013
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:46 PM) Boston paid up. Washington paid up for Eaton. Now Houston or Colorado will. Phil Rogers even said as much when he said Houston and the Sox are far along on a deal. It's nothing until rosenthal pipes in
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) Kyle Schwarber has 8 career hits vs. lefties and he is highly regarded. If Reed had hit righties...
  10. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) Are they saying WAR is nothing, or that WAR inflated from defense at a non premium position is a red flag? That WAR is stupid because Jason Heyward was bad.
  11. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) The Astros have discussed a Jose Quintana deal with the White Sox but as of now find the price too steep. -- Jake Kaplan https://t.co/p43H4IqisC Figured.
  12. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) So send him back to AA for a month to let him sort some things out and let him spend the rest of the year in AAA. We're in no hurry. He has MASHED at every level of the minors and everyone is ready to punt on him after a bad month in his first trip to the Bigs. I'm not saying he's awful. But I worry as much about Reed being the centerpiece for Q as I worried about Giolito being centerpiece for Sale.
  13. Watching MLB network, they are really hard on nats but not for reasons I like. Basically trashing Eaton and saying WAR is nothing. If Eaton played for Yankees he'd be a god.
  14. I really doubt we are close with Astros, we had so much more smoke immediately with Eaton/Sale
  15. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) Same argument's been made regarding Giolito. I don't buy small samples, TBH. Reed was a top 20 prospect heading into 2016, with almost never before seen production in the Minors. Yeah, he had 45 games though and it was awful. No bright stretches at all.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:23 PM) Reed is falling in value; I know a lot of people here like him,but his 1/4 season really wasn't good. I might go for more volume here, assuming no Bregman. Astros have a lot of really good, but not elite, prospects, particularly position players. Yeah, Reed is tough to measure. Was reading an astros prospect list that already dropped him to five. This is the same group that saw Singleton fall. That said, Sox do not have a 1b prospect worth a damn. Would love astros, would love Albies/Meitan deal from braves.
  17. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:28 PM) Rodgers had an .821 OPS in A ball. I like that he's only 20 and looks ready for AA, but we're talking about Jose Quintana here. You should be getting 4 or 5 players of Rodgers quality or thereabouts for him. Guys, we've had 2 trades now, and none of these fantasy "BEST PROSPECT PLUS REST OF FARM" deals were close, and instead we've gotten the top player people wanted and have been fine. If we leave a deal with Quintana with Rodgers, people will be losing their damn minds in excitement.
  18. Honestly feel like Eaton is getting devalued by people because nobody watched sox. His first 3 months in RF was unbelievable. I went to 4 games in april just to watch him.
  19. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:34 PM) I liked the 2016 draft, especially from position player standpoint. The Sox targeted baseball players who know how to get on base. Hopefully this strategy continues in the draft. Right, I hope so. I liked 14 draft too though.
  20. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) If nothing else, if these pitchers turn out well, the Sox could be looking at a rotation similar to the Mets, and they were able to get to the big series behind that rotation. I might be exaggerating the potential of the future rotation, but it is never a bad idea to 1) Take the best deal on the table and 2)Acquire pitching For all the talk aobut how the white sox current team was great at pitching, it really was paper thin. Our minors could not find us a competent 4 or 5, and was not even filling warm bodies into our bullpen (they were COLD bodies). We needed depth all over. I had completely become empty with this org. no money to substantially improve. Now I can see how we can improve, and we will once again have the money to make the jump in the next one. Honestly, for as crappy as we have been last few years, you learn how much drafts can be. Had we selected Corey Seager instead of Hawkins in 2012, we would not be selling. We'd have the following: Melky-Anderson-Eaton outfield Frazier-Seager-Saladino-Abreu Chris Carter DH Weiters? C That may be enough to get to playoffs. So we need to freakin hit on EVERYTHING from now on.
  21. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:20 PM) If their offer is competitive, with a successful rebuild they could really sell Bryce on helping get this team to the World Series. Ah, I love dreaming sometimes... Harper is wonderful, but Machado is poetry to me. I always wanted Beltre and never got him, to get Machado would be such a treat.
  22. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:18 PM) Well ya just threw in some names that caught my eye. Well, it will not be the depth. We now know that there IS a pull of quantity v. quality. And getting Rodgers back means not much more than that will return. I like the prestige of Reed but his cup of tea did scare me (and he had two). I'd be fine sox going after Tucker as their main piece from Houston and getting 3-4 of their low a level guys. But Tucker/Fisher/Stubbs seems very doable. Reed/Tucker/Stubbs realistic.
  23. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:17 PM) Can you imagine it if the Sox with a minuscule payroll decided to go balls to the wall and sign Bryce Harper? Almost a zero chance of it actually happening, but the payroll commitments will be so small at the time, I really expect the Sox will be in on him to some degree. Sox haven't pulled trigger but seemed to be in big ticket items like that. Recently Tanaka, but prior to that Alex Rodriguez in the texas deal.
