To those worried about the glutten of pitching prospects
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) Rizzo probably has a history of making fewer poor trades as any GM . The jump to conclusion he got hosed by a lot in the media and in the game concerns me. I hope he did get hosed, but he seemed very focused on cashing in on Giolito during these meeting. It doesn't mean he won't be burned. People were leery about dealing with Billy Beane and he traded Josh Donaldson for Brett Lawrie. I hope they are looking at packages for their other players that emphasize s postion players. Yeah, it's nice to have all these guys. But one or two or more may bust, or may get hurt. They have had a tough time forever developing hitters. Trade for some another team has done some developing. I don't think he got hosed, I just think Hahn got him in the perfect storm where because he did not have enough for Sale and Hahn was in those talks, he created a perfect value benchmark for Eaton.

Filling The Gaps
I don't know. If no Abreu/Frazier I can't see us being better than Reds. They still have Votto.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) Aren't all stats made up? Not TWTW.

Filling The Gaps
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) As far as I'm concerned, 2017 is a lost year in terms of team competitiveness. Therefore, try out some guys who might have a shot at being something later, even if a small one. For the outfield, I think you need to get rid of Avi. But I have no problem with guys like Tilson, Coats and Liriano getting playing time (along with Melky of course if he's still here, which he shouldn't be). That's three guys who can play competent defense, and all have a non-zero chance of hitting enough to show that can at least be a future 4th OF and maybe, maybe, more. So give them a look. There's no 2017 playoff run to harm, and you might find something that ends up being helpful for 2018 and 2019. Avi is our David Ross. I can't wait for everyone to be crying at his World Series speech.

Filling The Gaps
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) I'm probably overreacting, but I feel like if Hahn deals Quintana and Abreu OR Frazier, this team may not win 55 games. It will be pretty pretty bad.

White Sox News FA / Rumors / News
Rick Hahn has a feedback guy. My guess is its Marty34 and Rick is a sadist.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) I did. He's not sure where Eaton's going to play. I hope you are open to us directing all of your conversation with this coworker. Ask him if he prefers lostfan or ezio auditore

Catcher
Robertsons value is difficult to figure out. But I would be happy to deal for Severino. But the Nationals catchers aren't very good with Ramos gone so maybe they are keeping him.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:40 AM) Was said that Covey pitched well in the AFL and the A's thought highly of him If I didn't hear about the kid in the one preview that I read he must not be any good! /green

Rule 5 Draft Thread (preview in OP)
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:20 AM) Covey is an odd pick, then. Realistically any chance he sticks around? I mean, he's not going to prevent a playoff run so why not?

Rule 5 Draft Thread (preview in OP)
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) Anyone picked during the MLB portion must be on the team's 25-man roster or he goes back to the original team, correct? Yep

Reclamation projects to buy/claim/flip....
There are no good defensive catchers. And I hate idea of pairing Rodon with garbage again. Maybe suck it up with Pena?

Reclamation projects to buy/claim/flip....
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:39 AM) Why can't we pay him $10M. We'll have plenty of financial flexibity to add a piece or two like him. I guess it just makes me gag to have 2/5ths of our rotation and 40% of our budget be the great San Diego padres rotation.

Reclamation projects to buy/claim/flip....
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:29 AM) Tyson Ross Morneau if he doesn't get any suitors/wants to continue his rehab Matt Albers Ross was demanding 10 mill... if he goes to us he will need to come down. How about Chris colabello?

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 05:53 AM) I get a kick out of the people who say they will go to more games this year. Maybe there is a chance you will but overall people won't. If the teams the last 5 or 6 years were hard to watch, and last year's team was actually really good at home, the 2017 team is going to be hard to stomach. What is compelling about watching Derek Holland give up homers and if the don't leave the yard, watching Avi Garcia chase the down? Nothing. Maybe in a couple of years, but if you thought the baseball was too bad to watch before, it isn't going to be better this year. And I have season tickets. Even Cubs fans stayed away to a certain extent when they did what the Sox are doing. This board is full of die hards though. Not surprised. I will go to more games than i would have had we "went for it", but am gonna go to see Mike Trout play, Lindor play, Correa etc. It's gonna be like 2000 bulls games which were bizarrely fun.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 05:29 AM) As long as we ignore history and focus on a single season, you're correct I'm not sure Nats had possibility to acquire Cutch at any age of his career in trade.

Jensen Back to Dodgers
Good for Marlins. They will fail, but some teams need to compete.
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:12 PM) What blowback do you mean? The Nationals for giving up a monster haul? I think much of the board (including me) have been watching MLB Network and it was brutal to the Nats. Their saving grace was that Nats may sign Chapman with savings and obviously that's not true.
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:09 PM) The blowback by everyone actually concerns me in regards to our trade of Q. Me too, especially because it seems driven by the lack of "sex appeal' from Eaton even though he is a superior player to McCutchen.

Chapman back to Yankees
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:49 PM) Best thing that could happen for us is if Jensen signs somewhere other then LAD. Would make a package of Robertson / Frazier more likely and I think in their case a package deal probably maximizes the value we get back. Marlins would be another good option for Robertson and we should be in a position where we actually throw cash along too (given the savings we've had) to maximize talent back (and Fish would be the type of team more then willing to contribute along those lines). Marlins system isn't great, but I'm sure they have the pieces to get Robertson. Only interesting guys are pitchers.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) Would have been nice if the closer market had materialized the way it was supposed to during the meetings and established Robertson's market. Guy could end up having very good to mediocre value but s*** needs to play out. Sucks Marlins have a crap system because they are going to bea good desperation candidate.
