Rule 5 Draft Thread (preview in OP)
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:20 AM) Covey is an odd pick, then. Realistically any chance he sticks around? I mean, he's not going to prevent a playoff run so why not?

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) Anyone picked during the MLB portion must be on the team's 25-man roster or he goes back to the original team, correct? Yep

Reclamation projects to buy/claim/flip....
There are no good defensive catchers. And I hate idea of pairing Rodon with garbage again. Maybe suck it up with Pena?

Reclamation projects to buy/claim/flip....
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:39 AM) Why can't we pay him $10M. We'll have plenty of financial flexibity to add a piece or two like him. I guess it just makes me gag to have 2/5ths of our rotation and 40% of our budget be the great San Diego padres rotation.

Reclamation projects to buy/claim/flip....
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:29 AM) Tyson Ross Morneau if he doesn't get any suitors/wants to continue his rehab Matt Albers Ross was demanding 10 mill... if he goes to us he will need to come down. How about Chris colabello?

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 05:53 AM) I get a kick out of the people who say they will go to more games this year. Maybe there is a chance you will but overall people won't. If the teams the last 5 or 6 years were hard to watch, and last year's team was actually really good at home, the 2017 team is going to be hard to stomach. What is compelling about watching Derek Holland give up homers and if the don't leave the yard, watching Avi Garcia chase the down? Nothing. Maybe in a couple of years, but if you thought the baseball was too bad to watch before, it isn't going to be better this year. And I have season tickets. Even Cubs fans stayed away to a certain extent when they did what the Sox are doing. This board is full of die hards though. Not surprised. I will go to more games than i would have had we "went for it", but am gonna go to see Mike Trout play, Lindor play, Correa etc. It's gonna be like 2000 bulls games which were bizarrely fun.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 05:29 AM) As long as we ignore history and focus on a single season, you're correct I'm not sure Nats had possibility to acquire Cutch at any age of his career in trade.

Jensen Back to Dodgers
Good for Marlins. They will fail, but some teams need to compete.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:12 PM) What blowback do you mean? The Nationals for giving up a monster haul? I think much of the board (including me) have been watching MLB Network and it was brutal to the Nats. Their saving grace was that Nats may sign Chapman with savings and obviously that's not true.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:09 PM) The blowback by everyone actually concerns me in regards to our trade of Q. Me too, especially because it seems driven by the lack of "sex appeal' from Eaton even though he is a superior player to McCutchen.

Chapman back to Yankees
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:49 PM) Best thing that could happen for us is if Jensen signs somewhere other then LAD. Would make a package of Robertson / Frazier more likely and I think in their case a package deal probably maximizes the value we get back. Marlins would be another good option for Robertson and we should be in a position where we actually throw cash along too (given the savings we've had) to maximize talent back (and Fish would be the type of team more then willing to contribute along those lines). Marlins system isn't great, but I'm sure they have the pieces to get Robertson. Only interesting guys are pitchers.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) Would have been nice if the closer market had materialized the way it was supposed to during the meetings and established Robertson's market. Guy could end up having very good to mediocre value but s*** needs to play out. Sucks Marlins have a crap system because they are going to bea good desperation candidate.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:55 PM) After the Hill signing I just don't see the Dodgers going after another SP. I know their rotation is injury-prone and risky, but they still have like 9 SP to choose from. They're probably set there. They don't seem to care about hoarding positions though. They had 15 outfielders last year.

Sox/Rockies talking Abreu or Frazier
Q relies on his curve so much though. Otoh he's the smartest effin pitcher in baseball. Ugh I love Q.
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
I loved Eaton this year but always found it so bizarre he couldn't steal bases.
-
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
I see no way astros give up much, holding out hope that dodgers want Frazier and add Q.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:47 PM) Gotta think Q or Frazier is next to go. Really hope Cardinals signs Turner and Dodgers give in on Frazier and possibly Robertson. Yep, need cards to sign turner for this to heat up.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) I actually like this deal more than the Sale trade. Very happy we got Lopez. Big fan of his. Giolito was an obvious get for Eaton but didn't think we'd get BOTH of them. Dunning is just icing on the cake. I honestly think it's easier to win an Eaton trade than Sale. So hard precedence wise. Easier to close the gap between your player and the elite return.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
We're going to sign Machado in 2018.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) I think people underestimate the value of Frazier. I still think its possible to get 1-Top 100 Prospect and a lottery ticket for him or 2-Top 150 Prospects. Is it just me or is there just not a whole lot of top free agents signing happening. Encarcion, Chapman, Jansen, Turner all have not signed. Its strange to me. I think the big markets want to stay under the luxury tax for at least this year and its really hurting the market. Their are some good deals to be had. It's just a weird market for power hitters right now.
