  1. Boston has an incredible pitching coach, they'll know how to deal with Sale.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) I love this deal 100 times more than lowball Nationals offer. Now keep the rebuild going and do not stop. Yes, peoples crazy deals they threw out with language like "Kopech is a throw-in" (lol). We are about to have two pitchers that hit 102, one that starts.
  3. Thoughts now that I've caught up: Re: Kopech immaturity breaking his hand - remember when sale "broke his foot jumping off a truck"? That was b.s. two: after AFL there were two players I expect a big ranking jump in - torres and Kopech. Kopech dominated. That said. I think this was a win for both teams. I didn't see a need for other team to feel pain. Ideal was Josh Beckett trade, where florida got Hanley. Bos wins their world series, as does sale, and we get a future star. I am slightly taken aback but how little got filled out at the backend. Expected another wildcard. When you talk about a player so long they lose their impact, but damn, Moncada is great. To those saying "why get someone who failed at ml level" just LOL at you. Fair to be dissappointed in this deal, it is not the "we took your pants off and then threw you in a garbage can" return we first envisioned, but we just got (in all likelihood) two of the highest upside pieces in the minors. edit: wrote majors instead of minors initially.
  4. I WENT TO LUNCH AND MISSED IT AFTER STAYING UP UNTIL ONE LAST NIGHT
  5. <!--quoteo(post=3455276:date=Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:02 PM:name=iamshack)--> QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) <!--quotec-->Soon Garfein will tweet that his source says no such battle has ensued. Nightengale is our source. EDIT: I HATE THAT DAMN SCRIPT SOURCE
  6. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) Yeah, I could easily. Especially if JBJ would be flipped (my preference). Devers/Kopech = Giolito/Robles, IMO
  7. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) Mark Zuckerman ‏@MarkZuckerman 4m4 minutes ago Mark Zuckerman Retweeted Ken Rosenthal Boston always figured to be the most serious pursuer of Sale along with #Nats... Always thought Astros would be in, but hey, we are now where I wanted us to be except no Dodgers.
  8. Three way trade stolen from poster jonathanrod on SSS that I like a lot and is probably unrealistic from Rockies (but they are the PERFECT team to stretch out for a run) Rockies get: Abreu Giolito White sox get: Robles Rodgers Ramel Tapia Erik Feede Carter Kieboom Nick Banks Forrest Wall Kyle Freeland Nats get: Robertson Sale
  9. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) I know he got injured, but I was very surprised that the White Sox passed on Kyle Lewis for Collins. Time will tell, but I really liked his power Rutherford is a long way off making the majors, his ETA is 2020. That was too far out for the Sox to consider drafting him I think At this point I have to assume anyone the Mariners draft is going to be out of league in 4 years. Just a brutal stretch for them.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) Let's say Washington hypothetically got Rutherford from the Yankees and included him in a Sale package. What would you guys say to this? Sale for Giolito, Robles, Rutherford, Stevenson, Severino, and Fedde. I can't imagine Gio nets Rutherford. But obviously would be stoked for that package.
  11. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) You don't go from asking for Betts 6 months ago to lowering your price to Moncada or Benintendi + Kopech + Basabe Moncada or Benintendi is a must in a Boston offer + Devers as a mandatory second piece + Groome or Kopech as a third piece + 2 of E Rod/Swihart/Basabe/lower level guys Moncada/Benintendi + Devers + Kopech/Groome + E Rod/Swihart/Basabe/lower level prospects is a fair offer for both sides You don't go from asking for Betts 6 months ago to lowering your price to This is no ones fault but Hahns. That is nonsensical.
  12. Fan promotion idea: Allow 3 fans to shadow the GM during winter meetings, but take away their cellphone.
  13. QUOTE (Username @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) I'm higher on the Nats package than most, but this is good to hear. Makes me think there's still a legitimate chance someone jumps in, since sitting on your hands makes little sense otherwise. Though this does smell like posturing to an extent. Could also be Nats sense Sox may be shopping it and want sox to refocus.
  14. QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:48 AM) Similar does not mean equal to. Obviously Robles is better. But they are similar still. I mean, they both play center field and are young. I like Basabe, but to read about Robles is to talk about a pure baseball player who is dynamic on base paths, gets on base in anyway he can and is intelligent with two strikes.
  15. I don't know. I think it's overblown. Moncada was in AA and got a september callup for a handful of at bats. You like Moncada because he has developed his power, but almost everything else Robles already has at a premium defensive position. Both have good plate discipline and walk rates. Robles OTOH doesn't strike out. Robles was a 19 year old in A+, Moncada was a 21 year old in AA. I'm fine with either. Depends on what surrounds them. If we can continue to find dynamite athletic players like Anderson and Robles with the rest of the rebuild we could end up with a Royals like team.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) More than anything, this team needs to play some defense. They are just awful as a team. The front line is terrible. I think we just need to trade Portis or Niko. Clearly we like them and want to develop them but Portis playing out of position and Niko being awful are killing the team. Felicio as backup C is superior.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) MLB Trade Rumors ‏@mlbtraderumors 39m39 minutes ago Chris Colabello Rejects Outright Assignment, Elects Free Agency http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/chri...ree-agency.html … If we are entering 2017 with Abreu and Frazier gone I think I'd sign Colabello/carter. May be a good mercenary piece to trade off if they are doing well and a team needs a bat.
  18. Really sucked to lose that game to Portland. Totally winnable. Sort of feel like MCW will be a big help because relying on Canaan for big minutes is brutal. Gibson-Lopez-Wade-Butler is a real dominant force, but we can't use it late in fourth. I say screw that, just play them and force the other team to deal with not being able to rebound and lets roll the dice with Taj on perimeter defense.
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) I do care about framework Benintendi/Moncada would be great additions with upside Devers is really a must for me as a second piece I would consider a Benintendi / Devers / Kopech / Basabe package + maybe one more lower level prospect I think we'll need to sweeten our end with a reliever.
  20. I don't consider Moncada that much better than Robles, though it helps his power has developed earlier. Really depends how much you hate Giolito, to me. But Basabe may be better third piece unless we get back Lopez.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Moncada/Kopech/Basabe is way too light of a return for me To even consider the offer I would need Moncada or Benintendi + Devers + Groome + Kopech Anything less than 4 top 100 prospects would be a big failure on the part of the White Sox. Make a team pay dearly Need to start thinking about frameworks instead of deals. Unlikely that is final package. But Top 5 prospect in baseball plus 100 mph arm plus 20 year old center fielder with good hit tool and OBP skills is a framework to pit against Nationals.
  22. Really like Basabe. Tore up Carolina league as a 20 year old.
  23. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) Take it with a massive grain of salt but a guy on a football message board that broke the news of the Thornburg trade 18 hours before it happened is saying he has a source that says the Red Sox are making a push for Sale with Moncada/Kopech/Basabe. http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/view...144406#21144406 Yeah going to be interesting. I like Kopech a lot and his AFL probably vaults him to top 25 soon. Kopech Rodon and Burdi are some big arms to have on a team.
  24. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:32 AM) Completely agree. That's why to me, Trea Turner needs to be in this deal. Guys like Chris Sale are not traded like this, especially at 27 with 4+ years of control left. But with our incompetent organization, we have to. This is a franchise changing/saving/etc. move. They absolutely cannot afford to mess this up. (Similar to the Bears draft this coming offseason) The way I feel is if Sale alone cannot pry Turner I'm willing to sweeten pot of ML talent to help.
  25. The best sign to me would be Astros signing Turner (there are no rumors about this)
