  1. It's being reported that PA has not been prepping their players for lock out (as seen in NFL or NBA recently where there was a lot of chatter about saving for a protracted lockout), Knowing that, feel like PA will cave and bridge whatever gap is left.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) And for those who continue to post things like "Sale's value just went up again," I'd actually make the converse argument and say this only makes it more difficult to get a package back of top-end prospects. This x100. Continue to say that Sales cost savings dry up when talking about removing all immediate cheap talent these teams have to play with. Return is almost certainly going to see mix of near and far talent as nobody can take that hit.
  3. Scott Brown was a moderate senator for 4 years. Save your outrage for the ones that matter.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Bernstein just said he'd be stunned if Rick Hahn thinks this way. He doesn't doubt that it came from someone in the organization though. Talk about cutting your GM's nuts off. I agree with this, there is no way that Hahn would have told Cubs they will not deal with them to their face.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) It was actually on CSN last night. They actually asked David Haugh about it. He thought it was the right thing to do for the White Sox. His reasoning, if Sale helped the Cubs win, JR would be remembered for handing WS trophy(s) to them. That wouldn't be good. Well if David Haugh agrees with it...
  6. I think Olney is good, he just gets used as they all do in some unfortunate ways. How much longer will Nightengale take Sox words as gospel after they've burned him last 4-5 times? He looked like an idiot after the Ventura stuff.
  7. The fact that it got out leaves out possibility it got out from Cubs org, and if the white sox told the cubs they wouldn't trade with them I'll be a lot more angry than if someone from White Sox org leaked out to Olney that they wouldn't actually deal with clubs. Unclear if we'd ever figure that out, but if Hahn is asks, I'd hope he would say we're open to dealing with every organization and have worked with Cubs before.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 01:13 PM) Even in that normal candidates list, there are more than a few that I can't figure out how they would fit into the positions they were put into. Yeah they are a bit mismatched, especially pawlenty for treasury is a lot lot lot light. Romney typically would not have rep for int'l scene but for me would be greatly stabilizing, and same for Corker as SecDef. Fine with Mattis there as well. Brewer rumored for Sec Interior, she's a pretty good executive. The rest, weird positons for them but they are serious people. There are a few more good names I saw when I looked up an NYT article for anything I missed but stuck to mostly rumors that have been widespread enough that they seemed plausible.
  9. Well, we had a rash of players choosing to cash in early v. taking risk of cashing in later. Now, with less and less quality free agents to pay due to the younger players signing up through age 30, we see those that are available getting huge contracts -> which will lead to less younger players making that same decision if they are losing out on possibly 5--70 million dollars.
  10. http://www.blogabull.com/2016/11/28/137585...istiano-felicio I missed this but pretty cool link here - The Bulls sent Felicio and Grant down to the Windy City Bulls game Saturday to get some reps during the 4 day layoff. First time they've utilized it like this. Really glad we finally have a dleague team to take advantage of getting bench players reps or try developing interesting players.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 31m31 minutes ago A common ground in CBA talks: Folks on both sides say privately there are really no big issues. http://es.pn/2g2g1Cr And yet:no agreement This is where deadlines are your friend. I would be super shocked if tomorrow ends without a deal.
  12. My tiers of cabinet appointments (grouped rumored and official) Unacceptable due to experience, temperament or background Guiliani Bannon Flynn Sessions Arpaio/Clarke Jr. Carson - tier down from the madness above him. Just clearly unqualified. Kobach Acceptably qualified but scary re: policy DeVos Price Bolton - if sec. of state should be considered unacceptable Cotton Not acceptable under any normal circumstances but considering Trump I would be fine with: Gen. Petraeus Normal Candidates I disagree with on views but take roles seriously: Romney Haley Mattis Corker Pawlenty Hensarling Scott Brown J Brewer
  13. QUOTE (almagest @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) I don't know why you'd non-tender a guy with an .821 OPS last year for a 30 year old former-AAAA player who dominated the Korean league (which is still an unknown as far as actual talent translation), but I can say I'm glad I'm not a Brewers fan. Carter would be a good pickup for the Sox as DH while rebuilding. Hell I'd even think he's a solid addition if they decide to go for it again for some reason (please don't). Apparently they thought he would make 8-9 million in arbitration so it's just to save $4 million.
  14. http://www.vox.com/energy-and-environment/...dustry-michigan Is the $3.33 cited from michigan.gov for coal here before or after any regulatory costs? If costs are removed is cost of coal closer in line to natural gas?
  15. I say supposedly because I have no idea where I read that and don't want to look it up so I'll just water it down. But pretty sure it's documented and not rumor.
  16. Supposedly Calvin Coolidge did that toward end of his presidency. Was likely suffering from depression, and began retreating as the Great Depression solidified.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) Is it? I'd rather give Liriano, Avi or Coats those ABs if we're going full rebuild (doubt that'll happen). We are talking about DH at bats. Avi may be our DH of future but don't really care if we decide he's done. We will need some major league players on the team next year.
  18. Has there been any follow-up polling to Foster Campbell? Not sure why I should care, obviously all of the secret voters come out of the woodwork. http://www.fostercampbell2016.com/ Donated again. He's really going to help the khaki caucus reassert dominance.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Does it? Morneau is a LHB. Carter is RH. Eh older and likely DH only cheap bats. You already have half of a market. Are any of the bigger teams that need a DH going to roll with Morneau / Carter? There's only a few teams that are going to spring for them so any added similar player hurts.
  20. Carter available really undercuts Morneaus market. Wonder if we roll with Avi or sign one of these guys.
  21. Don't mean to cut down the whole thread but, we really gonna use a snarky redeye article as something to feel victimized over? Who cares. Also - this is no different than what we ourselves have been saying about sox, not sure why writers should prop us up for no reason.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) One question that I've been wondering is what if the owners back down on international draft. All of those teams like cubs/dodgers etc that banked on the int'l trade replacing current system - WOuld they be screwed? What was punishment on them for length of time they are not allowed to sign Int'l talent? Or would they be helped in that they can once again raid the system for huge classes and take their 1-2 year punishments. edit: previous post said international trade not draft. I'm quoting myself to see if anyone knows
