Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) From what I understand, they can pay any player what they want to, but they have a cap as a team that cannot be breached. Something like $5 million. That kinda sucks. But I guess we win longterm for Jerry as owner at least.

Moncada vs Benintendi
QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) another interesting angle is to ask who you preferred out of the following: Moncada, Benintendi, Swanson or Bregman. Bregman and Swanson were said to be off limits. Honestly liked Moncada/Benintendi most, Bregman next, then Swanson.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) If you mean they definitely deserve to clinch a playoff spot only to have lose their best player in the middle of the season, then sure, haha. Honestly even "Charlotte fans getting to watch more than garbage for just 1 month" is good enough for me. They nearly made playoffs at like 15 under .500 last year.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) Moncada #1, Kopech #30, No idea if that is latest up to date but would not be shocked if latest AFL run will lead to top 20 prospects for Kopech in the March rankings.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
Even though I think Giolito and Robles was a good starter return, the Moncada articles much more fun than the latest Giolito articles.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Does anyone know how intl free agency will work this summer? I know that the penalized teams are capped but are the sox capped at any number? Assuming that there are some rules to not allow the remaining teams to avoid penalties the next few years with the CBA going into place.

Moncada vs Benintendi
Tough for me. Sox have had trouble developing bats, and think that Moncada's power profile will lead to a player with a better bat. But benintendi will be a very good contact hitter with totally respectable power numbers and probably one year of 20-25 home runs that if he sticks as a CFer may have made him a more well rounded guy. I loved benintendi, him and anderson had the same quick wrists to catch up to anything. But pretty sure Moncada is gonna be the bat we needed.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:00 PM) I would let Moncada start the season at AAA and see how he does. What is the point of rushing him? Also lord knows that the Charlotte Knights deserve it.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Hey. Kudos to Hahn. He's getting hte top level guys I wanted to see. But now that we know who else was offered his career will be defined by if any of them outperform Moncada/kopech who else we get for Q and others.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) Samardzija? Who? Don't think there has ever been that name spoken around here. You must be talkinga bout Semein?

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
I'd prefer to go the depth route for Q. Get more players a bit younger and in the 20-100 range to open it up to different teams. Go back to Atlanta, Houston. Go back to Nats, maybe we still get Robles.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) Does Basabe go by his middle-name? I see he has a twin bro with the same first name but different middle name. I vote that Basabe will go down as the single most misspelled sox name on soxtalk since buehrle (no idea if i spelled that write, I always black out after the 'e')

Sox see Moncada as 2b
Going to pull this out because its interesting in its own right. Thought Moncada was becoming a much better 3b than 2b.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) Man did that guy on that message board nail the Sale deal or what? LOL just thought about that link that was posted and not too long a deal was struck No kidding, to get the third piece like that was nuts. Never saw him in the discussion before.

Chris Sale Appreciation Thread
The past 3 years were brutal being a sox fan with non-sox fan baseball friends. The only thing I had was Sale. I'd send the gifs of him k'ing people that were getting hit by the pitch. The nasty sliders. The knowing we'd win opening day 1-0 with him. It sucks to see him go, but it sucked to watch him give his all and then watching jeff keppinger try and score runs for him. Content he will get even more press than he deserves in Boston (nobody deserves the amount of press they get as red sox, nobody)

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) I have no idea what his market is, but considering Encarnacion is about to get signed by the freaking indians for maybe less than 4/80, i'm gonna guess its not good. I would think the opposite. Jose would be less money for three years and then we would see what the FA market bears out. I am only looking at trade value today I don't think you understand why I posted that. Encarnacion is the most consistent and superior slugger on market. It also features Trumbo, Chris Carter Napoli and more. And EE is having trouble finding a deal he was already offered and rejected. They aren't as expensive on the market as teams thought, and so you aren't getting that much value with Abreu, who also isn't as good as EE.

Note to KW..."Don't even think it."
The 2018 free agent period has potential to be bananas, No reason we shouldn't target that IMO.

Cardinals Interested in Adam Eaton
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) Adam Eaton has a ridiculous amount of surplus value given his 5 year, $38 million deal remaining for his prime years The package would have to be a massive haul for me to deal Eaton's 5 year of team control. He is a plug and play table setter and great right fielder. Thing about Cardinals, I don't really like any of their prospects, but I'm sure almost all of their prospects will come up and produce way more than we imagine. Bader is probably going to be really good due to cardinals effect.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) I have a soft spot in my heart for Jose, since he was the first MLB player I've ever interviewed. With Moncada in the fold, I'd like to see him stay. I have no idea what his market is, but considering Encarnacion is about to get signed by the freaking indians for maybe less than 4/80, i'm gonna guess its not good.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) My understanding is they already paid him about 20 million of the 31 million dollar bonus. The other 31 million was tax, which the White Sox won't be paying. So in essence they got 11 million thrown into the deal. Not quite as good as 31 million but not bad either. Also I doubt it was even discussed as much of a factor in trade. That was what it cost to acquire him initially, not his salary. that they spread it out is purely a financial decision on their end. No reason sox should have paid.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) Just a tiny bit underwhelmed but not upset or mad Yeah, I definitely thought we'd get some more breadth to the trade with Sale, now am nervous how much depth we can truly acquire. Q will be interesting. Do you insist on a top 20 prospect or live in the 25-75 range where more teams have multiple. Wondering about 3 team trade with Pirates that probably makes no sense as I'm unsure how much they care about STILL competing next year. But a deal where we send eaton to Pit and get meadows/bell, 3rd team gets mccutcheon and sends other cheap ML-verging help to prospects back. I'm guessing eaton for meadows/bell is not what they are about htough.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) Abreu is an interesting case, as his contract/team control has maybe a one-year overlap with the Sox's rebuilding process now (assuming that they don't go scorched-earth). If he can stay healthy this coming season, I'd be in favor of giving him a very generous three-year extension. A healthy Jose is a real boost to this lineup. Fine with that if we aren't getting anything more than fliers. We don't have 1b in our system to block.

Cardinals Interested in Adam Eaton
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) He'll cost more than I want to pay, but salary shouldn't be a major concern for this franchise right now. They just cleared out money and will be clearing out more money. They have no one back in the Sale deal who will take over CF. Overpay him, fine. We'll need some ML players that we just don't have. If players are left out, I like getting one of these sluggers like Carter (more like Collabello though) and Gomez as lottery tickets to flip.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
It is going to be interesting though. From now on I'm sure many will track Robles and Moncada equally to see our scouting in action. But, I'm pretty sure in March we will see Kopech as a top 25 ranked pitcher.
