  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) Ahh...yes, that makes sense. Reading up on it, looks like these two might have just been stupid and not any sort of racists. They were wearing some sort of skin cream face mask and the confederate flag behind them is defaced(they tore it down the middle supposedly). Just a couple of dudes, wearing a face mask in front of a defaced confederate flag after Trump wins presidency. Wrong place wrong time.
  2. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) I said borderline, but you're talking about national security workers abandoning their jobs because they don't like the democratically elected president. I'd consider that a betrayal to the people/country they serve. It would never be actionable, but it's close. There is turnover every administration change. People burn out. If they were refusing orders, that's something, it's up to president elect trump to fill out a team.
  3. Treason has been expanded to include not taking administrative jobs and emailing.
  4. I feel like trading Lawrie is unneccessary. He isn't expensive, he won't net you back anything franchise altering, and he is a low-chance lottery ticket to improve his value.
  5. I don't have a lot of answers for the sox, but I do know that their road to prosperity will not occur due to marketing to millenials.
  6. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) Seriously. You guys are acting like he is a bum. I know he didn't have a 4 win season, but he's still incredibly valuable to a team in need. If they didn't get a good offer for him, then just offer him the QO and get the pick. No brainer. I think it seems more pessimistic just because with other players we are talkinga bout top 50 prospects. He can get something useful back but it is nowhere near the same scope.
  7. It will be interesting to see if privatizing social security is ever considered. It has been a decade since they last tried, and they have both houses.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) I believe Obama just used this exact same tactic and now Trump wants him to help him do this job he is not ready to do. OBAMA: I just had the opportunity to have an excellent conversation with President-Elect Trump. It was wide-ranging. We talked about some of the organizational issues in setting up the White House. We talked about foreign policy. We talked about domestic policy. And as I said last night, my number one priority in the coming two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures our President-Elect is successful. And I have been very encouraged by the, I think, interest in President-Elect Trump's wanting to work with my team around many of the issues that this great country faces. And I believe that it is important for all of us, regardless of party, and regardless of political preferences, to now come together, work together, to deal with the many challenges that we face. And in the meantime, Michelle has had a chance to greet the incoming First Lady. And we had an excellent conversation with her as well. And we want to make sure they feel welcome as they prepare to make this transition. And most of all, I want to emphasize to you, Mr. President-Elect, that we now are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed because if you succeed, then the country succeeds. TRUMP: Well, thank you very much, President Obama. This was a meeting that was going to last for maybe 10 or 15 minutes and we were just going to get to know each other. We had never met each other. I have great respect—the meeting lasted for almost an hour and a half. And it could have, as far as I'm concerned, it could have gone on for a lot longer. We really—we discussed a lot of different situations. Some wonderful and some difficulties. I very much look forward to dealing with the President in the future, including counsel. He explained some of the difficulties, some of the high-flying assets and some of the really great things that have been achieved. Mr. President, it was a great honor being with you, and I look forward to being with you many more times in the future. Thank you, sir. OBAMA: Thank you, everybody. We're now—we are not going to be taking any questions, thank you, guys, thank you. [To Trump] It's a good rule, don't answer questions when they start—[gestures at reporters]. TRUMP: It's always the last one. OBAMA: Come on, guy, come on, guys, let's go. TRUMP: Very good man, very good man. Yes, exactly that. I was thinking about this last night. Putin praised him once and he continued to shower back praise despite no real reason for him to continue doing so. Acknowledge and respect his power and intellect, and and then see how much he comes back over to do the same.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) Its polarizing, some really great ideas and some just awful ones. People need to look at the three tax brackets he proposed, because its not really helping the lower middle or lower class. Well, if you saw the exit polls, those groups didn't vote for him anyway.
  10. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) What kind of policies are they currently seeking? I know we have the bathroom stuff in North Carolina but other than that I thought we were pretty up to date on gay rights. Referring more to playing defense there.
  11. I think it's safe to say the best move the LGBT community leaders could do is shower Trump with praise and see what kind of policy that gets them. I'm really not joking.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) Except he works for Goldman, not Chase. Jamie Dimon?
  13. Unfortunately we'll have to use that analogy a lot.
  14. Thanks shack, interesting stuff.
  15. All hypocrisy aside, I'd much rather Jamie Dimon than...like Rand Paul or something. Dimon wants whats best for banks - for certain - but also would respect FED and data that US gov provides. Kinda relieved TBH.
  16. If the clean air act is gutted so EPA can never regulate again, then I have no hope. But if they ignore that, then I think there would still be sluggishness to invest in new coal plants. You would still have threat of uncertainty that future pols could heavily regulate. Solar has made a lot of progress and can be tech/product can be exported. I have glimmering hope.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) It depends on how tight the market actually is. Justin Turner is available as a free agent and was substantially better than Frazier this year. Luis Valbuena put up better numbers than Frazier and is available, but he only played 90 games. The thing I can't answer right now is - how many teams don't need these guys? Houston has Bregman who will take over 3b, they don't need one. Boston may or may not want a 3b. A lot of the other competitive teams have guys they're probably pretty happy with at 3b. I only count a handful of teams that Frazier would be a clear upgrade for, some of those are like Minnesota - not going to bring in someone to replace Sano or other young guy - and they're off the list too. If someone like SF or Boston steps in to go after Turner and takes him off the market, that could create more demand, but right now this position doesn't seem like the sellers market that you see at other positions from a quick look at the leaguewide stats. Now that I look at this, Frazier might actually not be in that much demand at all. That's troublesome. Probably too lateral, but maybe Braves make push in their new stadium. Just signed Dickey.
  18. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 10:11 AM) Hey, pointing out incompetency is 100% legit and I totally agree. Acting like this is a new world order of white people that will transform the country into Germany circa 1930 is what i'm mainly laughing at. I understand the pushback that this won't be nazi germany. But I think there needs to be more thresholds for you allowing concern from : -There are no actual examples of hate speech and bigoted acts increasing - We are in Nazi Germany It is very scary to see the panic of Sikh, Muslim and Hindi friends. They are in Chicago. Are they likely to be victims of hate crime? No. Is it scary there are pockets in their own country they are worried about being targeted? I think we all know answer is yes. We assume that this will not be PREVALENT, but it is scary that what we don't know, from this candidate, if when needed to discourage these acts and stand up for Americans (ala Bush) whether he will do that. That's hard. Should people panic yet? No but I think we need space to stand up for these people too even if it is (or turns out to be) a series of isolated events
  19. Tyler Cowen with interesting thoughts on what to expect. https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/201...ics-chapter-one
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) People who spend their days arguing with strangers on social media need to get a better hobby. Take that frustration out in the gym or on your toilets or even taking a walk with your kids. Literally anything else other than that. Baseball themed message boards however are the cream of the crop Exactly. Historians will set baseball message boards in their rightful place.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 09:32 AM) Sure. But it doesn't mean that a large portion of the country isn't doing exactly that, and then using that information in the voters booth. Yes. It's definitely a reality.
  22. Legit didn't even know that timeline still existed. I don't really click on or use facebook, have always liked twitter more since the timeline feature, but am always surprised when suddenly someone's link reappears and that you realize the same 4-5 people make up your timeline.
  23. I'm calling it being some Minor League fodder for cash first.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) Yeah, I know I have had discussions about people only seeing what they want to see, and becoming dumber for it. It's kinda different though, right? There's an element of them not knowing they are only seeing what they want to see. I don't think people are so consciously doing it on those mediums.
