  1. DON'T TREAD ON ME
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) I think most of SA and Australia have compulsory voting. An over-emphasis on Presidential races definitely doesn't help "off" year turnout. I'm surprised by Australia but for some reason I find it more acceptable for parliamentary voting, so long as punishment is no more than a kick in the bum.
  3. I just want to reaffirm - the problem is what we all would consider overpay. I have seen some incredible packages talked about that people felt was too week and added 2-3 more top prospects which to me is just too unlikely to even bother with.
  4. OTOH Brazil mandates voting and that is a much worse system.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) Honestly I don't care about it either way, but when the conversations turns to a holiday or moving the date being something that would increase turnout, I don't see it being true. Even with having an entire month to vote early, people still don't make the effort. I don't see any of the other solutions around changing the election date fixing anything either. People who want to vote, figure it out. Those that don't make up excuses to not vote. Yeah. I mean, I think it's obvious if you were starting a system for voting *today* you would likely not choose the first tuesday in november, but providing early vote with an ample array of places seems like a good enough system.
  6. I'm not sure "increased turnout" is even a mandatory goal for updating election restrictions, making it more convenient for people to vote (even if they would have anyway) is also nice.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) We already have had posters say the Sox blew it by not trading Sale and Quintana at the deadline even after it was reported Benetendi and Moncada weren't on the table. The reality is, unless it's an obvious overpay, if a trade is made involving these guys, there are going to be calls for RH's head. And if no trade is made, it is going to be widely assumed they turned down an overpay. That anyone would even consider Mike Trout too little for Chris Sale, it's hard to imagine a Sale trade getting universal praise. The "x wasn't on the table" stuff requires skepticism. The other reporting is that the sox were adamant on one of their ML players (likely Bradley) as part of the deal and they never really progressed. For many like me, ML-proven talent is not necessary to the deal, as I'd prefer we get "near the bigs" prospect stars like Benintendi/Moncada. Heck, Benintendi then did pretty well in his two months and may be as hard to get as a Bradley. What you gain in assurance that you are getting at least one solid piece back, you lose in possible quantity. Not everyone sox could receive in a package may make bigs. But having more prospects in system still provide ammo to supplement young stars with proven talent.
  8. I think if we get past the politics around early vote, I think the 2 weeks prior to ED plus regular ED (for the sentimentalist) should work well. This is the first time where it's hard for me, having a newborn. We voted on Saturday to make sure it wasn't a struggle to wake up and get moving in the morning on Tuesday.
  9. Hard to overpay for Trout. And if you think getting Trout back for sale is too little, you will not be happy with any return.
  10. If someone put food they had made for you in front of you you would refuse to eat it? That's incredibly rude.

  12. Wish I could have done phone bank shift after this news
  13. Comey has advised congress that the review has been performed and no changes to FBIs July statement on Clinton. Pete Williams said all emails were duplicates or personal. Probably why you don't comment on ongoing investigations.
  14. I missed yesterday's game, this one was painful.
  15. Man. It's like the monstars drained away their talent suddenly.
  16. A tale of two weeks. The movement off ball has stopped. The transition points aren't coming as freely.
  17. Had fun doing a phone bank shift. The technology is still awkward as ever.
  18. Reminder that you can participate in GOTV at home: https://www.hillaryclinton.com/start/ If you are nervous - call voters in New Hampshire or Virginia
  19. I sympathize with him in that the things he points out are historically true but this year has certainly been strange with the decline of quality polls and severe decline of quantity of polls in anything other than florida, ohio and national. And with that I think he has overstated them while not focusing on any of the fundamentals that would appear to be more stable.
  20. I'm mentoring some kids and set up an "internship" where they can come to my office once a week until december to learn professional skills for class credit. It started today, and I thought they'd be coming at 10. And of course now with my new kid I am late to everything so I didn't even get in until 930 only to find they had been waiting in my office since 830. On top of that, the front desk person, who knew they'd be coming, was out temporarily, and the person who was covering thought they were food delivery people. Great start! I bought them taco bell at least.
  21. Ugh that looks so good. I'm very jealous.
  22. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) The bolded is what I'd do. I don't really see the point in getting rid of Cutler sight unseen. It's not like they need the cap space, they have tons because of the rebuild. I agree, especially now that cap hits are so low. The exception is if he has more trade value than realized
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 12:09 AM) How do you take what he said and get the bolded as your conclusion. Did you just respond to what you wanted his point to be? Speaking of the Trump-Russia conspiracy, FBI released that there is no tie between Russia and Trump today. Speaking of MLK, MLK was also a womanizer, not that it makes any difference to me, so why the relativism? Does Trump embellishing his overzealous nature with women crudely to Billy Bush really make the polar difference to you in your polar opinions on this similarly character trait? Last paragraph ... do you know 10 women have accused him of assault or does your polar views on women just force them alll into a box of womanizing.

But the FBI investigated it... must be something there. FBI shouldn't be investigating a candidate for president for ties to a foreign gov.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Seriously. Who cares about emails from.an.investigation ? Did Hillary ever interview with Billy Bush or Howard Stern? So an investigation w/o charges = guilt now? Well, by that logic trump is also a rapist and conspired with Russia to disrupt the election. But yes obviously the only thing wrong with trump is he admitted to sexual assault and then had 10 women accuse him of such. If only we cared about the serious stuff! Oh also MLK was also a real p.o.s., also investigated by FBI.
