  1. The often outlandish criticism Cutler has received has created a built-in defense of him that is deployed even when it isn't warranted. Cutler is a below average QB. But he is still a QB you can create a passing offense around. But Bears fans think below average in terms of Rex Grossman, Miller, Matthews, Orton, Krenzel, etc. Quarterbacks that would finish year with 10 or less TDs to their name, that you could not run a passing offense around. But for cutler, his inability to stay healthy is a criticism, same as Romo at this point in career. How can you build a team around a QB who isn't there for 3/4s of snaps every year? And you can put all of that blame on protection, but there are things that make QBs great (getting ball out of their hand, decision making, protecting ball) that he is not great at. He just isn't that good. There are too many good QBs in the league to still consider Cutler average.
  2. I think the remarkable thing has been our inability to get plus offense out of our DH. It's funny to hear things like "he's only a dh, dime a dozen" and then think about how we have been unable to find one for years (2012 excluded)
  3. Remember when this was exciting?
  4. dang, lost out on all of the travis benjamins.
  5. I drafted Howard late, realized I couldn't stash player that was 3rd string, dropped him, one week later paid to pick him up. I'm terrible
  6. Would better in-game focus and game preparation have moved us to a playoff team? No. But you don't want to just be learning those skills when you suddenly have a good season.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) I went on Sunday. Mostly just went for Bad Religion and Misfits. Both were good. Watching the Misfits was a little bit surreal at first. Also saw Rob Zombie, not a huge fan, but thought he was pretty good. He probably sounded the best out of all the bands I saw. Good to hear, wanted to see Misfits. When it was at Humboldt Park every show sounded awful. I stopped going, it was just walk around for 30 minutes, go to a stage 500 yards back, listen to a horribly mixed show where all you can hear is feedback bass and kickdrum, go to next bad show.
  8. I think it's uncharitable to Jose to hand wave this as "the will to win". The ability to stay focused and committed day in and day out in a 162 game season is important. We have had a lot of teams that appear to check out recently.
  9. I still have hope for Pace. I don't recall things looking good for Reggie McKenzie his first two years, but then he nailed the next 3 drafts and the first two proved as depth.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Do you even read the bulls*** links you post? Hanna, the guy who gave the quotes your article was written about, is not on the committee as you suggest. Seems like you have already edited that out of your post. You must have actually read the article after posting your headline it as the article reads, "Hanna, who is not a member of the committee." He was also the first GOP Congressman to support HRC. No wonder why CNN goes to him for a quote. The article was about what Kevin McCarthy said, McCarthy is the house majority leader of the GOP. He did not get speaker because of the comments that were discussed in the article.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) Uh oh. Rich Campbell ‏@Rich_Campbell 3m3 minutes ago Bears ILB Danny Trevathan sprained a thumb. It will require surgery. Not season-ending. Rich Campbell ‏@Rich_Campbell 3m3 minutes ago Fox: Bears QB Jay Cutler sprained his right thumb. Does Trevathan throw a ball?
  12. Sure is swirling now that he's out for year.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) No clue if it would of mattered or made Cutler take the next step, but the amount of OC's he's had is insane and would hinder anyone not named Manning or Brady. JMO Probably, but my guess is good QBs also tend to make their OCs look better. Joe Flacco has been in similar boat to Cutler with similar offensive talent and stats, but he also plays 16 games a year until very recently.
  14. I think Cutler WAS an average QB, but he has stayed at the same level while a lot of better QBs have entered league. Like, I guess we'd say Cousins is same level as Cutler, but then Cutler hasn't had a season like this in a decade: 4k yards 29 tds 11 ints You can say he WOULD have last year, but the whole Cutler getting injured for 4-6 games is kinda part of the deal. You'd have to say Cutler is closer to the Ryan Fitzpatrick level than he used to be, through better QBs entering league. QBs I'd still take Cutler over: - Gabbert - Fitzpatrick - Whomever Cleveland's is - Semien - Case Keenum - Bradford Players he may end up better than but they are younger/more valuable Wentz Mariota (to date) Osweiler And Goff may end up better. And Paxton Lynch may end up better. So really we are only drastically better than the Cleveland hell, because the rest have some hope behind them.
  15. Still it feels like a lot of people own guns so I was surprised it was that heavy. I wonder what it looks like for cars.
  16. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/lindsey-g...rica-1786824584 Lindsey Graham is pushing that narrative. It is a scary narrative. The bomber is a US citizen and needs to be tried as a US citizen... Spoke too soon I guess.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) Fahrenthold with more on Trump's charity scams. Trump used $258,000 from his charity to settle legal problems Oh man. missed this.
  18. Something I was thinking about Re: Chelsea/NJ bombings. There is zero narrative that this man could not be tried in US court system, or that it poses too much risk and he should be moved to GB.
  19. You know, probably doesn't matter. But it seemed like the Royals all came up together as a group through the minors, winning together. That's a philosophy that the Cards use, and Twins as well. Now, our farm system really hasn't been a huge contributor to our roster, but we have a group that I'm really pumped for from this and last years drafts. I'd like to let them play together and win like they did at Great Falls, vs prioritizing personal challenges and putting them on garbage teams all over system. May not matter, may prolong time up, but there are a lot of college talents that we drafted, see if they can learn how to win as a group.
  20. I did the same thing with the bears that I did with the white sox. You only compare them against themselves and you say "oh we are better at ILB, we have more line depth", but it wasn't until the Chiefs preseason game where I realized that there are maybe zero teams in the league that would trade their roster for the bears. This is going to be a rough season and you have to hope floyd, hall, one of our safeties, bullard flash, because otherwise it is going to be a really long time until we are back. Also super bummed, I wonder what would be different if we had hired Jim Bob Cooter over Gase. I believe he was one of the people we had interviewed prior to going with Gase. And speaking of, one of the great and sneaky things about the Gase offense was it prioritized TOP over explosiveness and executed it. Was very important to keeping so many games close last year, it kept defense off the field so our scoring defense was a lot lower than DVOA ranking. Loggains clearly is not capable of that same offense, and instead we are relying on big plays to Jeffery and nothing else.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 07:22 AM) The Eagles really aren't very good though. They just traded 6 picks for their franchise QB which is the cost. If the Bears want a Franchise QB, mortgaging a bunch of picks is what they have to do. Not if they're terrible?
  22. QUOTE (SpankyEaton @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 10:12 PM) Cutler didn't have a good night but he's only responsible for 6 points. The defense gave up the rest. He didn't get any positive momentum going though. I think it's time to just lose, pay him his guaranteed money and cut him after the year. Then draft the QB everyone wants if they can trust the regime to do that. I would rather see them build up the defense though. I've seen plenty of meat headed posts on Facebook about Cutler though. I used to think this but I'm done with it. Is he Jim Miller bad? No. But last year at end I looked and saw all these "bad qbs" with better numbers. That we hope to get 20tds and 10 INTs as a "good" year under him shows how much we are losing. Does he singlehandedly lose us games? No, but you need a QB that wins you them.
  23. Glad we're done with Langford. Love how Howard runs.
  24. Losing Goldman is just brutal. Losing cutler sucks for this year, but most of those players we need to know if they're good. This is three straight years of brutal injuries early on.
