  1. Tanking while simultaneously not acquiring more draft picks is an incredible strategy.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) For me it depends on if they can sign Eddy Martinez. If you can, you go for it this year with signings. If not, you stay under and load up for next year when the heavy hitters are outl. I can agree to that. I can see the advantage of cleaning up next year when half of the main competition is gone. But would have loved Guerrero against all odds.
  3. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) Just scrolled through pages and pages of people complaining about the contracts being hand out. Get use to these deals guys, the good days of signing the Big 3 for $14 mil a piece are gone. If the rumored cap of $110 mil in 2 years is accurate, that's like average of $7.5 mil/ for a 15 player roster. I just hope that they raise the league and vet minimum some so those guys wouldn't be making peanuts compare to the stars. I find the cap on the stars earners much more egregious than the salary floor. Mainly because of Hinrich. Frankly, I think the cap makes it more likely for above average players to get the max to desparate teams than if the cap was hire and a true market was set. "Sure, give them the max".
  4. Out of curiosity, would people have preferred spending at the cap last 3 years and going all out next year, or going over the past 3 years and then sitting out the next 2?
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) If that sets the market for Martinez, you can pretty much count the Sox out. I hope not, I want something to feel joy about.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 05:58 AM) Memphis is offensively challenged and lol@the rockets. Enes Kanter went 18.7/11.0 - 25.0 PER in 26 games with the Thunder. Westbrook dropped a triple double on the league the second half of the season. They won 45 games in a loaded conference despite the 2014 mvp missing 55 games and losing an elite, rim-protecting specimen that can also score. Don't ever compare them to the Bulls who lost to LeBron and a bunch of greg775's. No, I Will compare them to the bulls because that is my whole point. We were disappointed with our championship window closing with a team 1/2 as talented. They are going to lose KD to Washington next year. If they don't win the championship next year, they will have nothing to show for having the most talented team in the league. That is a fate worse than the bulls. I also love how you can write that it was a loaded conference to boost the resume of the Thunder even as your undercutting the road to the finals for GS. And that still doesn't answer the question on whether you actually think in the last 5 years of Western Conference dominance whether their playoffs have hurt their chances in the finals. It clearly hasn't.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) GS didn't play any powerhouses to get to the finals and then got a depleted Cavs team. The top of the west could be as strong as it's ever been in '16 while the Cavs roll through the east. Ok. And when the Spurs beat the heat after rolling through OKC and Memphis? Memphis/Houston is a damn tough spread to get through, especially when Josh smith was trying. OKC sucked and will continue to fail in the playoffs and have a fate worse than the Bulls, the most talented team in the league that didn't win a championship. That is something I'd only wish on a crap market like OKC.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) Problem is the Spurs will have to get through one (if not both) of GS/OKC while the Cavs will have to go through, um, lol.... Do you think this tough slate of competition has actually hurt the west in the finals the past 5 years? It hasn't looked like it.
  9. Sad I was away when this happened. It was 4 days ago, but I just want to say how absurd it was telling people who just got the right to build a family, the most personal and involved relationships in your life, that it was not that big a deal compared to some trade deals or foreign policy. What a ridiculous statement.
  10. In 2010, Chandler was a fairly disappointing, oft injured center who could only do put backs and alley-oops. In the following decade he made $100 million basically by being healthy and the league changing around him.
  11. I mean, not that 6 years 40 mill is chump change. But look at the athletes in other sports. John Danks made more than that on a 4 year deal and has pitched like garbage the whole time. Edit: my point here is I don't blame him.
  12. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Chandler 4 year $52 mil and Knight 5 year $70 mil to Phoenix. Tyson Chandler got $52 million? Damn.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) Thompson rumored to be getting a 5 year $80 million deal from the Cavs. Cavs are gonna pay their 2 power forwards nearly $40 million next year. That's almost 2/3 of the cap. Going to guess Thompson is playing a good 30 minutes a game at the 4 or 5 so not sure matters. They are only paying Mozgov less than Dunleavy.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) Cavs just entered cap hell. But they're gonna be soooo good. Though if Derrick takes well to Hoiberg, minutes are managed better and Niko, Snell and McDermott all improve there's no reason the Bulls can't compete. He made Dellavadova look like a good starting PG, doesn't matter what trash they'll put around those 3. May have trouble finding a good C when Mozgov can't be re-signed thou. I'm sure they'll get some 34 year old Tyson Chandler sign for league min and win championships.
  15. I really don't see how that doesn't end the East for anyone else.
  16. Good for Jimmy. The problem with those shorter deals is you make yourself vulnerable to trades if they don't think they can sign you again. And you can end up in a poor fit.
  17. Actually yes, I thought his comments were very reasonable.
  18. Was with cubs fan friends this weekend. I mentioned Sale rumors on score. They thought Starlin Castro would get it done. Then looking at this, very annoying to see the trash people always want to offer for good players. Probably somehwere in the middle, but starting to feel like the "trash" packages are closer to the truth. Nobody seems to want to give up anything anymore, which makes that Cubs/As smarj trade all the more amazing.
  19. It's almost as if Butler was posturing to make sure he got best deal.
  20. The RFA situation in hockey is so weak. Sour grapes from someone watching best team in the league, but it does suck how much the deck is stacked against teams keeping their home grown talent off of their rookie deals if they worked out.
  21. When you see Saad about to get 6 years at 6.5 per, how can you hold the same thought in your head that Kane and Toews would not get the same deal we are paying them?
  22. This one hurts the most.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) Has anyone other than Cowley or Bernstein reported on this mythical beef? No, but KC Johnson had an article addressing it using only Gar Forman as his source denying it. which leads me to believe it is true and there is a huge beef. I thi k KC Johnson seems like a good writer but he has proven to be incredibly out of touch with the real rumblings of the team.
