2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 02:48 PM) I agree with this. This decision was made a year ago, and they didnt act on it and it festered over the entire year. That was a s*** show season, no continuity, big distractions all season long. If Hoiberg was their guy, they shouldnt have let it leak, or they should have made the change. Yeah, totally agree. Especially since they seem to pride themselves on their secrecy in FA operations.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) Im so glad the bulls did their homework on all of the applicants to the head coach job, and interviewed so many qualified candidates. You know, I'll say this. If you are going to make a change from a winning coach, I hope it's because you have someone in mind you know you'll get. I think it looks more foolish when you, say, fire a Bo pellini b/c he can't get you a b1g championship to then shift around for a while before hiring mike riley.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) Well...I'm impressed. She was able to start and complete an investigation in like a month despite not having been in the role 4 years ago when the investigation began. I thought this began when she was in her previous role?

You may have not seen that she essentially took down FIFA.

Boy, this Loretta Lynch character sure does seem competent. I can see why it took 6 months and a political deal for a sitting president to get her nomination through.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) Get paid more and win the East with LeBron. Get paid less and bow out in round 2 with DRose, if healthy. Pretty easy answer for Love. Olynik aside, I'd actually be pretty surprised if he didn't sign in Boston.

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) The press release on his signing on with the Sox is from Nov 30, 2011. That means his first July 2 class with Chicago was in 2012. That means the old players from his first class are somewhere around their 19th birthday, give or take a year. That is about three years younger than Carlos Sanchez. Right, which was his first class and who knows how established his scouting network was then. Probably 2020 before we have an idea about how his players are contributing in minors.

For some quick Garpax hate: -Remember how Taj was so important to the future of the team that we forced ourselves into keeping him in the Carmelo hunt and then now are looking to trade him at his lowest value in 3 years?

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) I am trying to find a way to s*** on your Hoiberg enthusiasm. Its too soon to have Bulls excitement and I dont think fun should be allowed right now. offseason hypotheticals >>>> actual bulls results.

Even though I hated the way its handled, find garpax deplorable, and am overall very pessimistic about this bulls team... I'm already excited about Hoiberg. Will be fun to get out and run, even though it won't be as fun if they are losing.

KW: play is "embarassing" but team can still win ALC
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Sun Times site is nearly unreadable with all the junk they put on it. I just won't click on ST links anymore. Glad I'm not the only one.

But we'd have to make a team with Gasol/Noah/Mirotic/Love work, and we'll have horrendous wing depth. It's just a very weird team set-up.

I know you should never refuse an all star when you have 2 fine players, but Kevin Love is not the fit it used to be

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) It was fortunate to get two MLB star quality players from South America when their foreign scouting had been so fruitless. Fair enough. Crazy how patient you have to be for foreign scouting. We won't see Marco Paddy's influence for another 3-4 years.

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) The Sox had to really suck to get Ventura and Thomas (+ McDowell and A. Fernandez.) Just like when they got Rodon and Sale. Ordonez and Lee were lucky foreign signings, and Konerko was a great pickup in a trade, but the rest are overrated by Sox fans. They traded a superior player in Bobby Bonilla to eventually end up with Lance Johnson. Durham was flawed; as was Cameron. Singleton, Rowand, and Crede were never great in a "star" sense - just solid players with poor plate discipline. What makes signing Magglio and Carlos Lee lucky? Other teams had functional foreign development for 10 years while we had a criminal. Maybe we are just normally unlucky.

Give Beckham a Long Term Deal Today!
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) [/b] They already did that at 2nd base. Well, at the time (May 10th) they had not. Interesting how time passes.

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Sensational episode. But I've got to say I agree - I laughed out loud at no one on Jon's boat paddling. I also thought it was kind of funny that the Others were stymied by a very small distance of water... But that's nitpicking what was, start to finish, an amazing episode. They have basically no body fat, how buoyant could they be?

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) Yup we caught that immediately, if it doesn't go that route now then I would be shocked. Great great episode last night, of course there were the nitpicking things like "WHY IS NO ONE PADDLING" but that whole portion was done well. The whole valyrian sword scenes were perfect, when Jon killed the white walker we pretty much went nuts. The exchange between Tyrion and Dany was great as well, the writers do some characters just so well. And if the fighting pits scene is next week I would imagine that we would also see Dany take off then as well with Drogon. I'm interested to see what Jorah does. Ha, the scene at the end with Jon watching, I couldn't help but think that rower was way to chill to not even turn around as a death army was rising its dead. Dude is just a boat paddler, he pays no mind.

QUOTE (scs787 @ May 31, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) Dream scenario if that last post I made was possible.... Sign Green. Use the MLE on Jason Smith. Draft Tyus Jones. Rose/Jones/Moore Green/Snell Butler/McBuckets Pau/Niko Noah/Smith If guys like Snell and Dougie turn into good shooters that team would have range for days. Hinrich will certainly grab his player option.

So How Does Hahn Fix This Mess?
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 31, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) How is any lineup sustainable? There's always turnover. I don't think young impact players are some new market inefficiency. They've always been important. The Sox just suck at doing it consistently so it gets magnified around here. If you are bad at something that's important you better be excellent the other important things. The sox had a great run with free agents, now they have not. The sox had a good run of acquiring pro ready prospects and plugging them in, they have still done pretty well here. The problem with relying on FA is obvious, when you are already paying players full value you get much less when you try to trade them. Drafting and developing players just makes everything easier, and the sox who are good at pitching but horrendous at hitting, are seeing what happens.

White Sox vs Astros Game Thread 5/31
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 31, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) Chuck is a great pro. I'm liking him more and more . Swirsky is in his 50's but compared to Hawk he's a spring chicken. Nice to see some youthful energy in the booth. Also, I frankly like the "I don't know what I'm talking about STeve, so why don't you explain this a bit more" schtick. I liked when he challenged STone on the Batting Average, it was an interesting exchange.
