I just don't even see the point. If you aren't going to draft mariota or winston, you are just drafting a QB to draft a QB. If we use a pick, they'll be off the team in 2 years. I'd rather us pick up Blanchard again.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Do the Bears draft a QB? If so, what round? I'm thinking 3rd or 4th round. With only six picks, I doubt it.

The idea that this is a problem of education levels I find not convincing.

4/29 Games
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) I know the standings just aren't that important for us here, but thought it was worth noting... Charlotte is alone in first place in their division, and Winston-Salem is in a virtual tie for first in theirs after winning 5 straight. The other two teams are 8-10 so its not as if they are getting destroyed either. Just nice to see some competitive life from teams other than Great Falls. I'm happy about this. Not because I think it means anything really, but because I felt bad that Charlotte opened up that new stadium last year and we gave them a horrendous pitching staff.

2015 White Sox draft pick discussion
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 06:38 PM) Well, they both are projected to go in the 20s now. Getting picked at 8 and taking a discount would be likely on par with what they could expect to get. Yeah, still, I feel like everyone thought Hoffman would be late first until a week before draft and post-injury suddenly the "hoffman would still be selected top 15" started coming up.

Sorry, DGB can hope to be alshon jeffery, but not sure medium speed not very good route runners makes a very dynamic offense. Also, Jeffery is a crazy hard worker which I never caught from DGB. Alshon has also never been caught bragging about a pound of weed that wasn't his and threw his girlfriends roommate down the stairs.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Odds are it's just more media, but I'm sure the fact that they're underpaid and their recruitment process lowering their standards year after year...it's probably a slight combination of both. Yeah, but not sure that's a bad thing. There certainly isn't more police brutality now, there has been the same amount for a very long time, which people are tired of.

Baltimore Riots
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) Someone else highlighted this point in this thread, but I'd like to reiterate what they said. When speaking of Chicago, the requirements to become a police officer were lowered (it used to require 2 years of college, it now requires none), and as a known dangerous job that starts at about 43k a year, complete with a pension package that grows worse by the year (newer police pensions payouts are much lower than older), worse medical benefits, etc...it's hard to attract good people for such a dangerous job with crappy benefits. So, in saying that, is it a surprise that policing across the nation seems to be gathering more and more bad apples? An interesting TNC article probably frames my mind here but "So, in saying that, is it a surprise that policing across the nation seems to be gathering more and more bad apples?" ARe there more bad apples? Are there more media? And a bigger question: Are we using our criminal justice system to respond to situations that may not be helpful to include law enforcement in? The web that law enforcement is used for every menial inner city function is insane, and small mistakes end up trapping people into jail for actions that would never feature jail time for a middle income area. Is jail helping there?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) I think there could be a ton of trades tomorrow. Wouldn't be surprised if there was none either, but I think there could be some big moves. Jets have been rumored to be trading Muhammad Wilkerson. I would trade for him in a heart beat. Bold statements!

Baltimore Riots
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) And to be fair there are a lot, the vast, vast, majority of citizens staying home and not contributing to the riots. This is a battle between a tiny population of both groups. I think the question people need to ask when judging here is, do you think the citizens of Baltimore have a right to protest over another example of police brutality. And if that is yes, would you forfeit your act of protest if subset of the group were destructive? Also, for Chicago. For as useless and stupid as the riots may be in each literal aspect, Chicago could just as easily be facing this soon. Their police dept. does many of the same things as was listed in Ferguson. They literally had a torture ring. They have poor performers, and the climate is right now that a violent police situation may tear this city apart too. This isn't just a Baltimore problem. So my point is, Chicago needs to get ahead, and not just plan for riots. Like...try to solve these issues.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) 1) If you know what excluded middle means, why do you keep trying to say anyone who thinks that rumor is ridiculous must believe that these street gangs are now some sort of benevolent, crime-fighting organization? 2) It's not about "middle ground" or giving street gangs benefit of the doubt. These street gangs are s***ty, violent and destructive to their communities, but that doesn't mean we should take outlandish claims about them at face value. I think the point is a matter of perspective. From what I'm reading, Y2HH sees any any dismissal of the claims regarding crips/bloods to be defending the reputation of those gangs in the community. To me, spreading of these rumors usually says a lot more about the people spreading them than anything related to crips/bloods. It's an immediate connection of user to seeing anything in the inner city to gangs and crime.

2015 White Sox draft pick discussion
QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) If Aiken or Matuella were willing to sign for that big of a discount it would be tempting to pull the trigger, close to $1 million to spend on prep prospects past round 10 could be huge. However, I think the injury history for both of them is too concerning so I'd stay away. If they are willing to sign for that far underslot though, Hahn could use it as leverage to negotiate with other available players. Personally, I'd like to see them take a more advanced college bat like Swanson or Happ, it's been pointed out several times that we have a distinct dearth of position prospects in the system outside of Anderson, Hawkins and Trey and it would be nice to have premiere bat coming up. I don't recall the TJ guys signing for that big of a discount last year, may not be remembering correctly though.

Sox/O's postponed again for 4/28.
QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) Since they are going to play with no crowd at all they should have just played in like a local park district baseball field or high school baseball field. That would have been awesome. I'm pretty sure baltimore's minor league teams are all really close. Certainly there was a minor league stadium that would have jumped for joy to play there. TV would have been great.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) National Guard has been activated. I expect a pretty strong presence encircling the ballpark. Heavy national guard presence around park could either mean safety, could also mean "great spot to be seen protesting against tanks and armed soldiers". This series should be postponed, very silly planning. They make everyone go through metal detectors for hours to get into stadium, but will compromise safety of their fans outside?
