QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 19, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) Burke Badenhop 1 million Craig Breslow 2 million Joba Chamberlain 1 million Chris Denorifa 2.6 million Jim Johnson 1.6 million Alexi Ogando 1.5 million Josh Johnson 1 million Franklin Morales MiLB deal Ichiro 2 million Rickie Weeks 2 million Chris B. Young 2.5 million Yes, Chris B. Young and Denorfia make more than two million but it's negligible. With the way the offseason shook out, the real comparison to those players is the sox signing Bonifacio, not beckham. You should be angry they chose bonifacio over Denorfia if you really cared.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 19, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) War movies do pretty well at the box office... movies != public executions.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 19, 2015 -> 03:39 PM) The issue isn't whether or not Gordon Beckham can adequately be a backup 2nd/3rd baseman, it's that a backup 2nd/3rd baseman was literally the last thing we needed to spend our limited resources on. Signing Gordon Beckham prevented absolutely nothing.
  4. I assumed we were talking about the United States.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 19, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) We are entertained by death. Public executions draw large crowds. Is this true? We have to rely on your geographical expertise.
  6. It is also wrong to celebrate the random killing of another person. That was not the logical conclusion of your argument, the logical conclusion is why is not not also wrong to be entertained by the random killing of an innocent fictional character. I'm also not convinced that the chant of these kids was wrong because it was celebrating lynching, it was wrong because in 2015 they thought it was entertaining to start a chant alluding to a time where they maintain their exclusive white organization through intimidation and actual murder. That was a punchline. And more than anything else, it shows the absolute bubble these kids have grown up in, and it's depressing.
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 19, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) I'm glad to know that there have been reports of some good Soto defense. Re Hawkins, fwiw, in one of Law's recent stories, he said that while Hawkins looked good, a scout who has been following the Sox told him that he hasn't been challenged much with the curveball this spring. Not surprising considering Hawkins crushes mistakes and the dry desert air.
  8. I only scanned and saw Rodon, should I jump off the ledge? j/k j/k good article once again. I was pretty high on Kottaras (just seemed like a backup white sox catcher name), but alas, Soto it is.
  9. Mirotic looked good last night. Closed game with pau/noah for first time.
  10. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 18, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) Now if a lynching game isn't a good thing, are other games with murder and violence a good thing? Who cares, you are deflecting blame. A chant is not entertainment. People don't start up chants for fun, they listen to music, video games, etc. One has nothing to do with the other. You are just performing a deflection of blame. There is a culture at issue here, and it isn't violent video games.

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Mar 18, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) So Hawkins is still around? I've enjoyed watching him play this spring. I'm kinda bummed about Thompson and Saladino. I thought they'd stick around a bit longer, and in Thompson's case, challenge Shuck for the 4th/5th OF spot. I think Thompson should feel thrilled. He almost certainly showed off a major league asset in his defense and some nice hitting. His confidence should be high after some meh last few years.
  12. yep, figured this would be a very light day of starters.
  13. QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 18, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) To me the point of the article was to prove that a handful of GM's and managers are kinda dumb. It was just a dumb article. Were they just asked for a snap reaction of who they most covet? I could see someone having a fascination with some of the odder players. Anyway, i'm glad we have abreu. I get more mad at being forced to always rate abreu against rizzo on sports radio
  14. I'm rooting for Micah and will be happy, but considering the resources we've put into betting on ground ball pitchers, I would not mind Sanchez at all.
  15. Uh, no, i don't think a lynching game would do be a good thing. No that that's out of the way...
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 17, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) See Giants in 2010/12/14, and the Royals (with the even more extreme of having very solid starting pitching, but a supremely dominant bullpen and defense that covered up for some of the average at best starting pitching, guys like Vargas, Guthrie and Shields for much of the season. They didn't have a true ace, as Shields is declining and Ventura isn't there yet but might be some day if he can develop secondary pitches to keep hitters off his fastball.) That's an extreme parenthetical. I'd have broken that out.
  17. Tex, what are you talking about?
  18. So Shock resigned.
  19. I'm surprised there would be concussion issues at lower levels of hockey. I don't remember any contact and I played until 12.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 16, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) Good stuff. Grantland has become a must-read site for sports analysis. (as long as you don't click on the Simmons articles) Lowe/Keri are very good. Baker used to write more on Hockey. Not that much of a Barnwell fan.
  21. Fun to read that stuff even if I knew all of it.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) Hawkins looks at strike 3, and walks in front of the catcher to get Thompson out on interference. Youth. LOL. He has had nice st but he seems good for one absolutely clueless at bat per game
  23. It sounds like a rough game from Soto. More control issues from Robertson.
  24. 4-10 vs Min Noesi I would love if they would manipulate this to not happen.
  25. Albers looking like he will stick. Bullpen pieces look so much more put together than last year.
