I think GoSox was really on the ball and informative when he talked about how Playoffs are a big part luck and you just need to get in there to give yourself a chance. We saw one of the best teams ever, the 07 patriots lose. Best QB, Best WR, great defense, greatest coach in the league. They did not win a superbowl. If we get to the point where we have the talent of a perennial playoff team that isn't getting over the hump, like dumping marty for norv turner, I'll be happy.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) Outside of Belichick I wonder how many NFL fans actually love their team's head coach? Seahawks/Ravens. But yes, I think it's important to take fan feedback with a grain of salt. After 4-5 years, all that matters in fans eyes are weaknesses. Strengths receive no credit.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) Harbaugh yes Tomlin is close although I kind of want to see what happens with LaBeau being gone. Tomlin landed in a nice position there. The guy that came to me was McCarthy. Tomlin impressed me getting to playoffs this year. He did move into a posiiton with a loaded defense, franchise QB, and the best d coordinator in the business. That team is in transition and hasn't been drafting lights out, but they are getting there once again under him. But ask any steeler fan and he's only a winner because of LeBeau.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) He had a lot of injuries, including Tommy John surgery. I did not know that. Man, he was terrible. They had a pretty bad GM toward the end, whoever the person was to sign d'angelo williams to a big extension with Tolbert.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) So you're saying they dramatically overpaid a QB and had to figure out how to deal with that several years in a row? Hmmm...I wonder if there's a comparison I could come up with for that. Honestly, there is a pretty clear expiration for Cutler, and this defense needs SO much help.

I think people underestimate how often talented teams get completely mishandled by coaches in the NFL. You don't luck into a playoff team. San Fran was a sleeping giant for forever, you couldn't understand how they were 6-10 under a coach. Jake Delhomme went from good QB to one of the worst QBs in the world and the were stuck with him for a while.

I agree, my kneejerk reaction was as most, knowing the warts of a coach is somehow so much worse than imagining the unknown will be perfect. But Fox, in addition to having done it well twice, has hired some excellent coordinators.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) BuzzFeed is the worst I also completely recognize they have some great writers that write normally and it's not an automatic dismissal from me. but man, I hate this clickbait headline s***. You can't escape it now, and it's really driving me crazy.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) If you want absolute honesty, when it comes to most phones these days, despite being moderately expensive, they're largely considered "disposable" tech. When they break, it's usually cheaper to replace the entire unit than to fix the broken components. Upgrading a phone every 12 months is not only common, it's almost expected by these manufactures, and most of the phones are built within that mindset, whether we agree with it or not. I'm an iOS guy, but I'd give you the same advice as I'd give anyone else, Android or not. Buy the best you can buy at the time you're buying it, and it'll last the longest, and try to buy from a manufacturer with a history of timely updates and support. I'm looking forward to moving to Tmobile where this can be accommodated better. Really what just makes this s*** luck is timing for me. I would have jumped ship but I need my credit and am hoarding all cash while we hope to execute this short sale purchase. I will say, this is why I regard the iPhone 4 to be best phone ever. Thing lasted 30 months without fail, and continues to serve as a backup for us and my friends. Loved that thing. Can't move back to it now because at&t phone.

Worse than Noah being bothered by his knee still, I think it's starting to get into his head.

2014-2015 NCAA football thread

What was with the weird harping on Elliot choosing OSU over Missouri? He chose OSU like right away, and had one half-hearted visit after he verbally accepted there. It didn't appear to even be a difficult decision for him... also the way we use rbs was probably way less attractive. -
John Elway takes the helm, my guess.

Sorry, I'm sure that's a good article, but I couldn't get past the vomitous buzzfeedism of "Could Ansari be any more perfect?" as a subtitle. Let me write the headline "Aziz Anzari responds to Rupert Murdoch on Twitter and you won't believe what happens next!" Aziz Anzari responds to Rupert Murdoch on Twitter and it's EVERYTHING

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) Who is the NFL equivalent? Belichick? Maybe they'll get Dungy.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) I think firing a coach coming off 4 straight division titles is a fool's move any way you look at it. Not if you get Phil Jackson.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) Still though, how many of those guys, both offense and defense, developed under him? This is the guy who found a way to keep tim tebow from making mistakes enough to win games. Von Miller developed under him, yes talented on his own but there have been other big pieces developing on his defense. TJ Ward, Chris Harris Jr developed into pro bowlers under him, that Brandon Marshall they have isn't bad, etc. And on the offensive side, they've seen solid development out of both their lines and their receiving corps as well. Yes, Manning likely had a lot to do with that, but they've still done it. That's a good point. I would be fine with his hire. I think the NFL to a point (almost the extreme to the opposite end of the NBA) where if you failed at a point as a head coach you had proven you can't coach. I think it's possible Fox will have learned a ton after these two trips and may be very valuable. OTOH, I'd be fine either way, I just don't particularly care for Gase or Austin.
-
In my opinion, you only do this if you have someone in mind. If they are going to interview like the rest of the teams, and it's just change for change's sake, then I think it was a fool's move.

I have respect for Adam and wish him the best, but if he didn't stay in shape when he was a star player under contract, why would he after he retires?

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 06:02 AM) I don't take the Globes results seriously. They reward the new shows and some of their movie nominees are just out there. Think critics put too much stock in them. Amy Poehler just continues to age wonderfully. You think critics put too much stock in the golden globes? They are pretty much regarded as a joke, but most watch because it's a lot looser than the oscars.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) I wouldn't hate him as the Bears coach, wouldn't be super inspiring but we could do much much worse. I think he's competent, but those Broncos teams were loooaaadded with talent. Absolutely loaded. He took over a top 5 defense and then added Peyton Manning's offense to O. And the team expected about how you'd expect! That's no small accomplishment, but I don't think you could give him the Bears and see much difference.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) It's always going to happen when everyone loves to hate and laugh at that team. If this happened to the Panthers no one would care. But it's funny when it happens to a team everyone hates. It's no surprise. If it happened to the Panthers you wouldn't be claiming he made a football move, so it goes both ways.
-
There was no football move.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) At full speed I thought it was a catch. Upon seeing the review, I agree with the overturn. Bryant did a great job of high-pointing the ball, but Shields got a hand in there to jar it a bit. As Bryant was coming down, he controls it for a second, tries to reach towards the endzone (with the ball in hand), and the ball comes loose upon hitting the ground. The ball popping up off the ground signals shows that to me. If he had control of it, the ball would have remained in his hand the entire time. He never had full control of the football. An incredibly athletic play, but it was correctly ruled an incompletion. I agree, I also think this was far less egregious than Calvin Johnson's.

Man, why couldn't Erik Johnson have worked out...BASEBALLLLLL
