OT i know, is there a thread discussing PECOTA projections this year?

Forgot about this thread. We are in the middle of a short sale purchase. When we started looking for houses, I did not seek out a short sale by any means. We put in an offer on a house that had been on market for a while and it was accepted, but it put it at a price requiring bank approval. Lots of waiting so far. We actually paid for a home inspection right away, as we didn't want to be tied down for months to find out it required a new foundation which would obviously be ours to pay. That said, very excited, but also trying to put it out of my mind for another 30-45 days. Question for Home improvement stuff. If you start acquiring tools, do you get pretty brand loyal? I want to use a gift card to buy a handheld jigsaw tool, but feel like as soon as you buy one with a battery you are going to buy them all. With that in mind, is there a good quality/value brand people swear by?

BR ranks the top 10 front line rotations in MLB

Lance Lynn is someone who I just irrationally probably feel like would be a failure in AL. It's also remarkable how good his stats are compared to the handwringing about him from the cardinals fan base. -
eh, football hall of fame is stupid anyway. But Bettis was way more memorable than most RBs of the late 90s/early 00s. Gore will not have a few more 1000 yard seasons. He was an amazing story, in that he barely played in college due to so many injuries but was still an incredible prospect. He may not have had many pro injuries but he is not someone built to go beyond his 30s successfully.

Give me an off-season you enjoyed more than this 2014-2015...

The 2004-5 offseason felt similar to me. After the Lee trade there was the same feeling of checking items off the list. People forget now how exciting the Iguchi signing was. Basically was the last piece left, people were clamor img for the signing at soxfest. Reminded me of bonifacio. -
Finished "the sleepwalkers", an examination of the causes of the outbreak of World War One. Totally eye opening. Incredible read.

was this list ever released?

I just got back from vacation and am pretty alarmed at the Measles outbreak. This obviously is not epic proportions yet, but to see a disease come back after being defeated is very, very frustrating. The reactions so far, have been predictable. The worst being a certain amount of fradenscheude at the nonsensical anti-vaxxers. It would be fun to partake except actual very vulnerable children and elderly may die from this. I'm happy to see real societal consequences being thrown at those who do not vaccinate their kids. They should have difficulty being admitted to public schools. They should see difficulty getting treatment from doctors. The reactions I've read so far from the anti-vaccination league has been, predictably, victimization. Gain footing by acting oppressed, always a strongsuit. It is almost comically scary they way they can deflect any criticism though. It reminds me of interactions with very, very unflattering group examples which probably aren't constructive to say. But, deep down it hurts that something so ludicrous is going to kill helpless people. You'd think listening to them that the world has never seen an unhealthier time than 1950-2015. Before that was fine and dandy. edit: here is the article that spawned it http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/31/us/vacci...-share&_r=2

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 12:51 AM) It was a crazy game. Not use to seeing the Bulls play fast, back and forth basketball like that. It was sort of frustrating they were playing into what the Warriors like to do but the end result is all that matters. I thought there was little chance we would win with Jimmy and 0% chance we would win without him so I was shocked. Team has a long way to go though The Bulls actually have looked much more comfortable in the fast western conference pace than in games vs Indiana/Miami

I wouldn't blame him if he did leave though. Barry Odom was a no-brainer hire, but Kul wants to be a DC and just got passed over after 15 or so years. He'll need to move to get that job. Maybe he just cuts that chord now. Just hurts to see prior to Beckner officially signing on. -

I hope it's just going to require a raise by Missouri. Because "co-dc" seems like a terrible idea. -
Although I do like the slate-pitchiness that alpha hit. Here we are thinking of ways to make college more affordable by tax breaks and public funding. But, boom, there it is: Why don't we just make college cheaper by making it less effective?

I think the idea that hiring a QB coach that has had that position for like 10 years as some placation of Cutler, or even the hand-wringing over it, is ridiculous.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) How about lowering the cost of tuition? 6 figure salaries for professors and even higher for admin and some coaches? More admin staff than teachers? Quit trying to figure out how to afford the high prices, figure out how to get the prices down. While I agree that positions like President of the UM system in Missouri for example is a gross expenditure for ex CEOs who want to build their public resume and suck out millions while performing nothing, I think it would be fantastic for you to look at where colleges spend their money and then get back to me about cutting tuition via teaching staff cutbacks.

Man, how did everyone just know to find that quarter. Clips for volume scoring like that just don't do it justice.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) Yeah how's that working out for our k-12 systems? No thanks. Colleges control their inputs.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 04:42 PM) I'd rather we get back to fully publicly funded world-class universities than having a bunch of Rube Goldberg 10-20 year tax incentive programs. It seems like a much more reliable and even-handed way of assuring access to higher education for everyone, poor to wealthy. Would you rather raise taxes to fund universities, or cut universities public funding so that the offsets in tuition will be balanced by raising revenue to pay for tax cuts to help pay for raised tuition?
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) It is working, just not for the people Obama wants it to work for. It's not as if this program is designed ONLY for people who are rich. It would greatly benefit the middle class. They just have to use it. If the goal is to make college more attainable, than this program isn't really serving as anything more than a tax credit.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) Those purchases are necessities, not wants. You cannot live in 2015 without a smartphone and date plan no less than 1 year old. This, by the way, is why it infuriates me when liberals want to cut things that benefit people with money but not those without. In reality it COULD benefit a ton more people, they just don't take advantage of it. Let's penalize people for being smart and successful. That'll show em. If this plan isn't working as well as others, why wouldn't you cut back on it and extend the others. This is just "oh but it SOUNDS bad"
