February 24, 201511 yr Chuck Garfien @ChuckGarfien 17m17 minutes ago Gillaspie bulked up, quit chewing tobacco and wants to make sure he's still got his strength at the end of the season. Conor Gillaspie admits that he battled fatigue last year. "I got towards the end of the season and I just couldn’t do it."
February 24, 201511 yr Author Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 51m51 minutes ago Gillaspie gave up smokeless tobacco late last year, attributes offseason weight gain (15-20) in part to that.
February 24, 201511 yr Hopefully this helps him defensively. The last 2 years he seemed at least average defensively at the beginning of the year, and left you questioning why he is even standing on the field towards the end. His OPS was actually better than Panda's last year. Maybe the additional weight will help him hit a few more over the fence.
February 24, 201511 yr Hope this doesn't affect his bat speed. A more power Conor would be nice to have though. Might get me a little less excited to see a potentially rejuvenated Davidson.
February 24, 201511 yr So he quit chewing tobacco, which means he's probably moody. Hard to imagine Conor even more grumpy than he already is.
February 24, 201511 yr If you've ever dipped snuff it's TOUGH to quit. Horribly addicting. I read that a pinch of snuff has roughly the same amount of nicotine as 1 pack of smokes. Hell, Gwynn couldn't quit even AFTER he got diagnosed with oral cancer.
February 24, 201511 yr Funny, I'm at work and they've got one of the satellite dishes tuned to a raw feed from ESPN and I'm watching the White Sox take light batting practice. Gillaspie hasn't bulked up 20 pounds from the looks of it.
February 24, 201511 yr QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) So he quit chewing tobacco, which means he's probably moody. Hard to imagine Conor even more grumpy than he already is. I would hope he is past the mood swings if he quit late last season
February 24, 201511 yr Dang, in the pool for who would show up in best shape of his life I would have taken Avisail over Connor.
February 24, 201511 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) Dang, in the pool for who would show up in best shape of his life I would have taken Avisail over Connor. Oh cmon, there's at least 20 people that will show up in the best shape of their lives.
February 24, 201511 yr QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) Oh cmon, there's at least 20 people that will show up in the best shape of their lives. If you ask Hawk...they all did.
February 24, 201511 yr QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) I've heard that Chris Sale lost 15 lbs this offseason. As long as he cut off his right arm and not his left, I'm OK with that.
February 24, 201511 yr There has been a real dwindling number of "best shape of their lives" stories. I don't know why, since I always read them.
February 24, 201511 yr QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) Dude still sucks. lol a 1-2 WAR player that was acquired for diddly squat and is pre-arb. Great guy to say "sucks". He's a decent starter and a great guy to have on the roster at his salary.
February 24, 201511 yr Sale=Jamie Lannister At least there should be a story about how Chris has spent the entire off-season memorizing additional SAT vocabulary to make post-game interviews more efficacious, haha. He's officially pledged to sound as much like Dr. Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds as possible.
February 24, 201511 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) Hopefully this helps him defensively. The last 2 years he seemed at least average defensively at the beginning of the year, and left you questioning why he is even standing on the field towards the end. His OPS was actually better than Panda's last year. Maybe the additional weight will help him hit a few more over the fence. I would be concerned the extra weight would make him a worse defender as he might be less mobile. Hopefully that isn't the case.
February 24, 201511 yr QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 05:46 PM) lol a 1-2 WAR player that was acquired for diddly squat and is pre-arb. Great guy to say "sucks". He's a decent starter and a great guy to have on the roster at his salary. He's been playing that game with him since 2013, just let him be.
February 24, 201511 yr QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) lol a 1-2 WAR player that was acquired for diddly squat and is pre-arb. Great guy to say "sucks". He's a decent starter and a great guy to have on the roster at his salary. I'm hoping for at least a 2.5 this year from Conor.
February 25, 201511 yr QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) I'm hoping for at least a 2.5 this year from Conor. I'm hoping, but his limits against LHP kinda rule that out. Unless he improves to "average" defensively that is. I like Conor his candid attitude is a breath of fresh air and he has talent -- he wouldn't have been a 1st round pick without it. Hope he puts together a nice 280/330/410 year with solid defense.
February 25, 201511 yr QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) lol a 1-2 WAR player that was acquired for diddly squat and is pre-arb. Great guy to say "sucks". He's a decent starter and a great guy to have on the roster at his salary. Meanwhile, Jeff Soptic repeated A+ last year and saw his BB/9 increase from 7.78 to 8.90.
February 25, 201511 yr QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) Dude still sucks. Has to be sarcasm. Conor is far from suck.
