Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
bmags replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think the worst part was justifying the light sentence with discussing how great a guy Ray Rice was, and obviously letting that press conference happen with Baltimore. They could have had that sentence and still hid behind a veil of re-examining the punishments for domestic violence, and that they took the matter seriously. Instead it was "he is a first time offender and understands his mistakes and is going to correct them. Great guy. Total class act." -
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 07:40 PM) Even though it looked awful I dont think many people are gonna say the Conte play cost the Bears the game, but there were a handful of plays where he was too deep and was giving up wide open passes 10-15 yards down the field. A few of them were terrible throws too, I think it was Woods who made a leaping catch right in the middle of the field and Conte was too far back to make a play on it. That's just holes in the zone.

Fuller is a big time recruiter too, and I think Fulford's Huntington Prep run itself shows he is a good recruiter. However, they are taking direction on scouting from Anderson. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) Why's that? I was impressed you guys got MGC. AFter missing out on Whitt and Blakeney they jumped at the chance to offer two in-state 3* guards which, I have to believe, would have been available to offer late. If Thomas Bryant doesn't sign, we are very, very thin frontcourt moving forward. -

Well if it makes you feel any better, my optimism for mizzou basketball recruiting under Anderson from August 1st to now has fallen off a cliff. -
The going rate for QB is expensive and will continue to get more expensive. 15million isn't great but it is what it is at this point. McCown is old, has been out of the league before, and does not have a long history of this sort of success.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) Rewatched the Cutler INT to Kyle Williams and noticed right before Jay threw the ball Bennett had his arms up calling for the ball....Now am I just a Jay apologist when I say that Bennett should get some of the criticism on that play? Or that at least Jay shouldn't be as scrutinized as he has been on that play? He's scrambling around, sees a receiver with his arms in the air makes a split second decision and delivers. I know typically QBs shouldn't throw back across the field but it's not like it was all the way across the field. I am indeed a Jay apologist though so ya... I don't know, receivers throw their arms up all the time, doesn't mean you throw to them.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) You really don't get away with knocking someone out in public. Especially when there is video of the entire thing, and your victim is willing to press charges. Rice would have been looking at several years in prison. Probably wouldn't have got it, but he would have received some time, and it would have cost him a lot of money. I assume you are talking about if Ray assaulted a man in the elevator who did not provoke him, not a "drunken bar fight" where both parties could be charged with assault if it is reported. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) I agree. Obviously men are stronger than women, in the general sense. A man is probably generally going to take that punch better than a woman. But few people react this way when a woman goes after a man with a knife or a gun, which goes a long way towards negating the physical advantage men have over women. A lot of this is chivalry/protectionism, which isn't necessarily wrong, but it is getting a bit out of control here. That's because it doesn't happen as much as it does to women: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-na...estic-violence/ Men it's under 3%. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 08:12 PM) You should get a good look at the Packers ILB. Ranked worst and second worst last week from PFF. There is talk that the Ravens want to trade Arthur Brown. If I was Ted Thompson. I would be on the phone getting that trade done. I would like to see this if only to see if he too becomes invisible. A few years ago I thought linebackers were the most replaceable position on the football field. Now I'm feeling like this draft will need to be 6 straight LBs so that we can hit on one.

Last night I watched 34-year old Larry Foote blowing up run lanes and disrupting all over the field. He was signed to a 1-year 955k contract. I honestly cannot believe how completely invisible our LBs are in plays after hearing that our new dline responsibilities were to create lanes for them.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 08:47 PM) Which you would think would really infuriate the women's rights groups, because this is basically a group of men telling a woman "You dont know whats best for yourself sweetheart, let us men decide." No, they are punishing Ray Rice, because Ray Rice committed a brutal assault in an elevator for the public to see. You should make sure to mansplain to the women's groups how to feel about how we shouldn't punish Ray Rice, because it may hurt her. Make sure to use your great puns. Domestic violence puns are hilarious. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) I just like how all the people who are so supportive of his wife dont get that this actually hurts her economically and that in no world would she want Rice's contract to be terminated. Its pretty much a slap to her face (pun intended), because not only is she a victim, she now suffers economic harm as well. But hey, lets not think about this logically, instead lets just get our pound of flesh. If anyone actually cared about his wife, they would give her 50% of the salary he would have made, or hell donate the money to a charity to help battered women. But nah, Ravens will pocket the money, Rice will get paid a lot less by someone else, and all of the people who yelled for Rice to be "punished" will pat themselves on the back for being awesome. I guess I'll speak for myself when I say that her financial stability is not worth the physical abuse, and likely verbal abuse. There are no winners here, but Rice should not have the privilege of being an NFL football player after performing such a violent act. Hopefully he takes this extra time to spends it on addressing his issues. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 08:20 PM) Oh, ok...well than then matter is clearly settled. Sorry, but if you watched that video and the thing you came away with was "man, that girl was annoying", you are viewing it in a cause and effect lens. If no punching happened, nobody would have had any strong opinions on how that person in the silent video behaved. But in addition, and this is me judging, if you watched that video and one of your thoughts was "man, that girl was annoying", I don't' even know how to finish that. It's just absurd that could be a takeaway. -

QUOTE (TRU @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 05:31 PM) What I saw in the video. Doesn't mean Ray Rice is justified in what he did. Point is, people are making a bigger deal about Ray Rice over the guy who killed someone and for some reason will be back on the field and playing this season. Sorry, you can be disgusted by Rice all you want but its not even close to the Josh Brent thing. Listen, this isn't the victim olympics. Just because this other terrible event happened that you think is being underappreciated doesn't mean another terrible event is unimportant. But you almost certainly will not gain support for your view by justifying domestic violence. You can say that's not what you were doing, but you were quite clearly saying Ray Rice's incident was not that bad because his wife was being drunk and annoying. Drunk driving in the NFL has a terrible history, as does this country. The Leonard Little era was disgusting. But there is likely less outrage for Brent because he did face criminal charges. Ray manipulated his way out of the charges, and the league showed way too much support for him. This also happens to be a common situation for victims of domestic violence, whereas victims of drunk driving tend to get the sympathy they deserve. People don't act like it was their fault. -

QUOTE (TRU @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) Why is there a public uproar over Ray Rice knocking out his annoying drunk wife but no one says anything about Josh Brent KILLING someone and only getting suspended 10 games, never mind only having to spend 6 months in jail. You shouldn't hit a woman and I have no respect for Ray Rice, but its a bigger travesty that Josh Brent will be back on the field earning his millions in 11 weeks. What is going through your head when you write this?
