Adrian Peterson indicted for negligent injury to a child
bmags replied to MurcieOne's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I guess jenks's point is that in his perfect world, we would not be upset about women being hospitalized by their fiancees and 4 year olds getting whipped in the testicles with a tree branch. Ahh what a world, free of the oppressive stench of PCism, where you can beat your wife without fear of people being condescending. -
I love preseasion hype.

I started feeling sick yesterday, went to doctor, went to pharmacy, went back made a sandwich, drank the meds down. Long story short, f*** Roddy White.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) A one-year old child. Jesus. A child that young, their nerve endings are still not fully formed. That's why scratching a baby is somewhat excruciating for them. Maybe it's better at 1 year old, but physically disciplining a 1 year old is a horrible and abusive idea. -
I have zero interest in Kevin Martin for the next 3 years.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) Ok, so it's fair for you to say the fact that we spank children less results in a decrease in violence, but if I say obesity and lack of discipline in the same sentence, Balta insists I am saying one causes the other and insisting I link to 20 studies within five minutes. Fair enough. I don't believe a lack of spanking is the reason this group is much better than your cohorts, however, I do think that the declining rates of that type of behavior does not indicate that this group would be undisciplined. -

I'm going to strike you a deal, past generation, if you stop spanking your kids, they will kill each other less, do less drugs, have less sex and be smarter, but they will go outdoors less. I wonder what they will choose. -

I think we can all agree that iamshack is a great example of how to debate respectfully. -

From what I understand, kids these days are having less babies than ever, scoring better on tests than ever, smoking less cigarettes since cigarettes became popular, less violent than 50 years ago and returning to pre-war levels... That doesn't sound like a discipline problem. -
2014-2015 NCAA football thread
bmags replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think the reason this is a big deal is that Winston sucks and continually comes across with the maturity of an 8 year old, but also is worse because of the sexual assault he likely committed. So, a dangerous person with an 8 year olds mentality leading the best team in football. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) So it sounds like you were offered Gerhart for Peterson, right? You're 0-2 and it sounds like you didn't pick up Asiata. You need to win now. You take the trade. No, it's the other way around. He has Gerhard and was offered AP.
-
Well, moot point. I only got Asiata. He may have been worse due to Vikings not being able to throw, which should TOTALLY CHANGE right?

NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread
bmags replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Jakeenan Gant and Deangelo Allen suspended after being arrested for "suspicion of 3rd degree assault". first: :crying :crying Second, I didn't know there was a third degree of assault. Third, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I remember in 2007 I was so fed up. Demare Carroll had been shot in downtown columbia somehow, butterfield had hit his girlfriend in the face with a shotgun. I wanted basketball to be gone, then the team widdled down to a core that was some of my favorite basketball players ever. I hope that's the case. But I can't see us being good without Gant in that core. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) How well would the "swap Sale for several Cardinals since they have a lot of world beating prospects" idea people floated last year look right now? How well does the "we should just shut Sale down in May" and "Give him Tommy John Now" crowd look right now?

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 12:19 AM) If there is physical evidence of how you hit your kid about 10 minutes afterwards, that would be an indication that you went too far. As far as Cutler goes, the lack of vaccination is bad. There is a degree to which it is accepted because that is basically an upper-class white way to harm children. The main difference to me, though, is that Jay is leaving his kids open to potential harm. It is reckless. What Peterson did is actively harm his kids. What Jay Cutler is doing is more like choosing a babysitter by random draw and knowing that there is a 1 in 1000 chance that the babysitter is Adrian Peterson Except he also invited all the neighborhood children to be babysat as well. -
Should I spend a big chunk to get Asiata if I am a Peterson owner? Should I go elsewhere, like Rainey? Donald Brown?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 09:29 PM) Just because I love to look at them, Jose Abreu's half splits: 1st half: .292/.342/.630/.972 2nd half: .374/.451/.554 /1.005 Jose Abreu also 21 HRs on the road and 14 at home. WOW

Bears cut Draughn, c. Williams, and M. Mulligan and sign Ross and Frey from Practice Squad. Still 2 spots on 53 available.

Eh, even so, public opinion if that was proven would be tough for Nike to swallow. -
Official Recruiting Thread II
bmags replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Antonio Blakeney reopened his recruitment and "rumors" (SOURCES CONFIRN) are that it was pressure from Nike, who is upset that Wiggins went from a nike AAU sponsor to KU (Adidas) and then signed with Adidas after. All of Blakeneys top 4 are now Nike schools. It seems like one of those "superfan tries to rationalize decisions of 18 year old kid" rumors, but anyone heard of stuff like this before? I just don't see Nike being that dumb and risking their NCAA relationship. -
It was Kirkjian and definitely did not add a "available for trade" qualifier.
-
I just want Sale as top 3. Probably as a holdover from the righteous anger of my youth, I was really annoyed at the trade deadline when ESPN continued to say that the top two lefthanders in the AL were acquired by Detroit and Oakland. Um...no.

Was 2-0 this week. Was huge with Peterson being the player i paid a lot of money for. Big game from McFadden out of nowhere really helped.
