2014 Fantasy Football Thread
QUOTE (TRU @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) I get the feeling that the Bills coaching staff doesn't like Spiller. For one, hes returning kicks now. Two, they tried to trade up for Carlos Hyde. Three, they DID trade a 4th to the Eagles for Bryce Brown. Five, they signed Anthony Dixon this offseason. And of course Fred Jackson is still there. Last year, Bell and Bush were pretty much dead even in fantasy points for PPR leagues. Plus, you never know when Bush is going to get banged up. I agree with this. That's a huge risk. Would anyone put money on more than 8 carries from Spiller? It may happen but very scary.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) They still made it to the NFC championship game. I get your point but it's not like the Niners nose dived or something. Right, they aren't a crap team, but everyone thought they were on the verge of this unstoppable passing offense. It turned out to just be one game. As long as Seattle has that D, that mobile-ish QB who can extend drives, and that running game, they will be dangerous. But just maybe not 35 ppg unstoppable offensive force dangerous.

I'd also like to remind everyone that last year the darlings the 49ers opened up against the packers and Kaep threw for like 500 yards and 4 tds and everyone thought the 9ers offense had risen! Then it sputtered for the rest of the season. Point is, this is a long season.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 01:28 PM) Are Mizzou fans scared of this Toledo game this week? I understand that Mizzou lost a ton of starters from last year, but the talent discrepancy with Toledo alone should have the line above -3.5. Just wanted to get some insight. Mizzou fans are convinced they'll lose every game, but yes, I think every mizzou fan has this game circled, moreso than UCF, as the non-con that will bite them. Missouri starts slow, which I think is part of the fact that the school recruits 3stars and "coaches em up", but it takes them a while to succeed in the season. The offense looked bad, but the coaches rarely give up anything in the non con games. I think that changes vs. Toledo, because I do think they are terrified.

I thought the same v. Djokovich. I was really bummed for a bit, I was really hoping for 1 last major for Federer this year, but at least wanted a semis/final match. It was hard watching Monfils just lose it like that. His high points and erratic concentration, drinking of cocacola, doing "no look" shots despite there being no way that would affect an opponents sight line make him the most interesting tennis player. Just so bizarre.

Britt looked good too. Missouri has a 100% hit rate, everyone is awesome. Nobody sucks, certainly nobody threatens to have a bomb in an airport. +++ Gosox, I agree. Their organization, top to bottom, seems to be 100% on the same page. Reminds me of the spurs how everyone when interviewed hits the same points, talks about how much they love it and how they believe. Certainly doesn't hurt that they also feed them PEDs in their water. Lastly - that TD play to Lockette was totally taken from Auburn's playbook. It's scary how well that worked at the NFL level.

Playing in Seattle is never easy. Maybe you'll see a super bowl trophy ceremony letdown, but likely you'll lose a close game and it won't mean much for the rest of the season.

Sox Prospects: Stock Up/Down
Stock is up for me on Hawkins. Player development is frustrating, but all you can ask is they improve. He did. He needs to keep improving so we don't have to say stuff like "he's only 24 in AAA" in his 3rd year there.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) Bust him up and in or down and in. And if you miss, he's hitting it. He's good. Basically, you can't miss hitting the very small parts of the plate. Good luck, pitchers.

Gut feeling he will be good again. He is certainly the most athletic and able to make plays. He also has shown a real mental deficiency.

I'm not sure how you can say that about the 2nd one. One major problem is he needs to start stockpiling picks. But, again, without a 3rd rounder we have: Long - Probowler (whether deserving or not) Bostic - I'll say bad pick because I think he has remarkably bad instincts No third Greene - backup LB, special teams player Mills - Starting RT C. Washington - probably will amount to nothing M. Wilson - was the starting 3rd receiver in camp, 21 years old 2 starters, 1 probowler, 1 3rd WR, 2 backup LBs. That's not as bad as 2012 with a crap LB and Alshon.

One of Stan's points was gorgeous. He kept pushing him further off the court and just when you think he'll hit it baseline, he rips a ridiculous angle even further off to the right that he couldn't get catch up.

On one hand I think about the crap trotting out on the d last year and think "this has to be better". On the other hand I think that there is still a massive middle hole that an nfl offense could easily execute against to great results. You could beat the bears last year on the rush up the middle, misdirection, long and short passes. Now you can kill them in the middle of the field and misdirection runs. How many TDs will that really save?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) Because of Tucker and DeCamilis, my faith in the Bears are pretty low. Unlike others, I also am not bought into Emery / Trestman yet either. I don't know that Trestman has what it takes to hold people accountable and be a successful head coach. I do think he's an extremely bright offensive mind and have full faith in him running the offense. Difference between winning and losing is so slim in this league though, so little things matter, and hopefully he can make sure the players and coaches know that and are held accountable. Emery has done a nice job in FA and targeting needs but other then Jeffrey and Long, we've had pretty horrific looking drafts with him. In fact, I think only two guys remains from his first draft. I will say jury is out on a lot of picks from last year, but given what I've seen to date, I think last years class is looking almost as awful too, save Long. I have such little faith in Bostic. If Bostic can develop, last year looks good. Starting RG who may still yet turn into a tackle. Starting RT. What appears to be a 3rd WR. Crap DE. No 3rd round pick. Bostic turns it into a "good" draft, lacking starpower. Really what can end up making that draft is M. Wilson and if Long can turn into a plus tackle. But he's also kinda old.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) Thousands is probably a little much, hundreds maybe. But who cares? You're still taking away spots from other students on the basis of race. It's the definition of discrimination. They're not guaranteed entry but if that's a dream school they didn't get into because of discrimination and they have to go to their plan B that can have a major impact. Quality of the school, location of the school, cost, people you know, etc. etc. are all factors that differ greatly depending on where you go. Simply saying you can go to 5 other state schools or to cheaper schools ignores the differences between each school. Again, this just goes back to your "they're white, they have money and can deal with it" response which is a bunch of BS. There are low class white people too who are suffering from the same issues as minorities. That is nothing to do with it, but, yes I will cry zero tears that someone didn't get into their "dream school" that they were a fringe acceptee for, because they were just as susceptible to another white kid with money taking their spot as to a minority. Diversity at a university is good, kids learn just as much from each other as the uni. Grabbing students from different areas, backgrounds and cultures is absolutely worth it, especially since the success rate of "student with 21 ACT" and "student with 23 ACT" is negligible in difference. Looking at two students with such similar academics in GPA or test scores is just meaningless, it'd be like looking at one baseball player with a 1.6 WAR and another with a 1.5 WAR and saying "clearly 1.6 is better than 1.5, we must go with the first!" That difference is so small to be a fluke, and at the end, they'll go with who is a better fit for the university and their goals. If it was their dream school and did not get in, they can spend a year at a different school, do well, and transfer, where they will find it much easier after all the other freshman have dropped out due to drinking too much.
