QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) I'm obviously no scout. But from what I've seen, he's got more to his game than just freakish hops/athleticism. Yes, would have been great had he showed it in a lower level.

Watch Lavine as he makes a highlight dunk and recedes into the background unnoticed for rest of the game.

Definitely, loved Egnew. Mizzou TEs did not translate that well to pro for whatever reason. But I think he'd be a decent backup.

I'm guessing Philly will have ample opportunity to stash high salary vets for picks next year as well. I don't think they would be close to the floor yet would they?

Ferguson Riots
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) Let's be completely honest here. The jaywalking investigation turned bad because the person being investigated turned physically aggressive, and it's most likely because he himself was aware that he had committed a strong armed robbery. I don't care what your opinion is, that's how I see it. Either way, it went south because the dead person became physically combative. And to the knife/shooting, if the police DIDN'T shoot him and he ended up stabbing a bystander or even one of the cops, why do I feel like the cops would be blamed for not acting on it? There doesn't seem to be a distinction between turning bad and death, though. He wasn't roughed up, he was shot.

Ferguson Riots
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) Ok, but that situation doesn't mirror what happened here. You had a guy with a knife (not a crowbar) walking towards the cops and not listening to their instructions. I don't think you'd see too many US cops shooting a person who is in an argument with another person over a road-rage incident. I still think that shooting was justified, but it bothers me a little they shot so quickly. Your apprehension caused me to watch it, and I kind of wish I hadn't. I think you kind of cut to the root of what bothers me so much, and it's that police intervention seems to escalate situations. There were people surrounding this guy that were apparently not scared at all of him. The police arrived guns drawn and threatening and opened fire really quickly. There's logic to this: -He's in a public place with people walking by - He could hurt someone at any minute - He has a weapon! But I got the impression that nobody who watched that in the parking lot saw it happen and thought "thank God the police arrived". ANd that's why I can't get over the Brown shooting even with all the black eyes and stuff. How did a Jaywalking investigation turn so horribly? It seems like the Police trying to reduce risks using their force may be creating more.

The Beheading
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 03:02 AM) Curious as to why not? A beheading is so horrific. If you know you are going to die you woudn't take the cyanide and the easier route? I pray for that person daily to have the strength to accept his fate. I'm sad he has to die because of these thugs intent on beheading people. If you are especially defiant they might decide to torture you for a few days before the beheading, so it's a no win situation all the way around. Greg, while graphic, beheadings are one of the more humane ways to go. There is no suffering. cynanide suffocates your body. You may go quietly but I can't imagine it's better than a beheading.

When I was in school in 2008 I remember a man dying in a court room after being tasered. Funny how 6 years later we are pining for tasers to be used more.

I had my auction draft last week (auctions, while awesome, are such a pain in the ass to find a date for). Had excess money so I blocked a threat by grabbing 3 qbs (newton, kaepernick, rgiii). Now in pain with not having a spot to get sleepers.

Washington Football Franchise team name discussion
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) What if they were ok with it because they weren't aware of the historical context of the word? Now that they know that, this hypothetical person isn't allowed to push for change? And to Shack, we're all just using this forum to kill time while at work. It doesn't make the debate unimportant, but it's not like I could have been using this time to head to hearings in front of the Bureau of Indian Affairs to discuss ways to make meaningful change on the reservation. If we had a thread discussing that, I would gladly participate (because, like most people commenting on internet message boards, the one semester of Native American history - 1865-present - that I took in undergrad a decade ago definitely makes me an expert on the subject)... And I listened to a Rage Against the Machine album.

Washington Football Franchise team name discussion
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) I guess what I'm trying to argue for is to use some of that passion you seem to have to go out there and contribute in other ways, rather than to use causes like this to challenge your debate skills...because I really don't believe that you'll get off your couch to do much of anything for American Indians when it really comes down to it. That's great, but again, what does it matter. Do you think it's wrong? If so, how are you making things better? This is the same as "look at all these assholes giving to a charity they don't give a s*** about."

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) By the way...there are many reasons I'd be worried about Rose but him sitting out this game, isn't one of them. I'm much more concerned about some form of a repeat injury. I mean, this is the exact reason I wanted him playing on Team USA.

Washington Football Franchise team name discussion
From where I sit, there are 3 arguments going on: - It is an offensive word that should not be used for a football team mascot - It is not an offensive word anymore, and it should stay as the team name - It may be an offensive word, but it shouldn't be this big of a deal and you shouldn't advocate for it to be removed unless you've advocated for all Indian Rights arguments because that makes you a hypocrite and aren't there better things to worry about? I think the only valid arguments are 1 and 2. If you believe that the name is wrong, but think people shouldn't advocate to remove a wrong because there are other wrongs, you are arguing in bad faith. You don't actually have a problem with the argument, you have a problem with the people making the argument because you think they are shallow. Hypocrisy is a really fun message board tool in the internet age. I'm sure it makes people feel very righteous to dismiss any argument or policy because the person arguing it. But at some point perhaps we could put the rhetorical tools away and just address the problem at hand. Should this word stand or should it not? I think it should not. Do I put this word removal as the most important change facing the nation? No, but at some point you look down and holy s***, it's been 20 years and we are no closer to removing it, and you start arguing a little harder.

The Beheading
QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 02:07 AM) Say what you will about Carter, no hostages died while he was in charge. Kind of different circumstances, an entire embassy taken hostage in one place with a recognized government vs a war journalist taken hostage by a terrorist group.

Is This a Playoff Team in 2015?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) As I recall, Reinsdorf is the one who really pushed the envelope in signing Abreu. Seems to me Williams really didn't want to go above like $45-50 million, and Jerry said "if this guy is as good as you say, we may as well spend as much as we have to [sic]" I disagree. From what it sounded like, Williams gave the pre-bidding numbers, and when it started it became clear it would be more, and Reinsdorf trusted their judgement.
