The majority of police are good people, unfortunatley the police have done historically a pretty terrible job of actually punishing and removing bad policeman from their ranks and protecting their own. If police brutality is used as propoganda perhaps the police should work harder to remove themselves from that equation. Again, Chicago police had an organized torture ring for almost a decade which put an unbelievable amount of innocent people in jail. He will continue to get paid for next decade by taxpayers he tortured.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 04:05 AM) Ready to get on the Decamil is a f***ing joke bandwagon yet? I'm fully on board. I feel like he is the Martz of ST. Puts in an overly complicated system in place despite not having the players to accomplish it, system fails, he'll blame players. Finds job elsewhere.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) Wait a second. I thought he was just an innocent kid minding his business waiting for college to start? (And stop, I'm not justifying shooting an unarmed person with their hands up. If that's what actually happened, the cop should be punished. Just funny how these details are conveniently left out) Probably because if you were alive in high school you probably knew someone that stole cigars from convenience stores and don't believe they should be shot 9 times.

2014-2015 NCAA football thread

So that was mostly boring. One guy was chanting the texas a&m chants by himself on camera for like 4 minutes. Not compelling TV. -

I don't want the pitchforks brought out for Hawk. I want him to recognize it was a stupid thing to say and not say it again. That's it. If he's suspended a game I'd like that because I've enjoyed every game he's not been on this year more than when he's been on, but I don't think it is vital. I'm glad he's being shamed for it, and I'm glad it once again brings out those who feel so oppressed that they can't say whatever they'd like...on tv...without consequence. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 01:28 PM) I am sad and disappointed that "Let's Be Cops" is getting such awful reviews. I like both of them but I knew it would be terrible when all of the previews were just them yelling things out loud.

QUOTE (The Wiz @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 04:28 PM) I don't plan on posting in this forum as I hate anything politics involved, but I saw this and just had to say I completely disagree with the sentiment and think you are wrong. The kids in those neighborhoods are raised to hate police, police brutality or not. People are strong armed by local gangs to not talk to the police or act as witnesses to crimes. I think you are really undervaluing how much power and influence gangs have on these neighborhoods. There are still plenty of professional athletes who came from areas with strong gang influences who are funneling money back to the gangs not because they want to but because they have to for the safety of them and their families. To say that police brutality (which is becoming fewer and fewer thanks to dash cams and such) is a major problem with crime, I'd say you are either naive or naturally have a bias against the police. But I agree, police brutality is wrong. But I hate when people use the actions of a few police officers to represent the whole group. Its no better than people who use the actions of a few black people to judge the whole group. Do you think they are raised to hate the police because of no reason, or for example, they grew up in the neighborhoods where policed tortured suspects to gain false confessions. There is a strong sentiment in this forum that police officers can be terrible at their jobs and terrorize people because they put their life at risk. I disagree.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) God was that great. It really was delightful and we'll have something like it before too long. At the same time, you should read the article. It was super, super dumb. I may have never read the article either. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) Golf is getting hit with the same criticisms. Baseball and golf are not going to die. And we shouldn't be making huge changes to games that have been around for 2+ centuries so that the latest generation of teenagers can get their fat asses off the couch. You'd think baseball was like, the most athletically demanding from the way you talk. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) Are the Hawks going to get rid of the scantily clad Ice Crew? Doesn't seem they hire any average looking women for that job. How wrong. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-dad...-202440158.html It's amazing...it's like people don't like being treated like s*** by teams they are fans of. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 09:55 PM) Didn't read the article, but what he said is absolutely wrong. You can dismiss it as being OMG YOU ARE SO SENSITIVE but he talked down to a portion of the Sox fanbase. It's just pointless and stupid. This is what I was trying to get at. When baseball is already hurting, why risk stuff like this. Every other sport I follow is trying to increase it's reach with women because women like sports. Glad to know baseball is healthy enough that it can use them as fodder for old man jokes. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 09:50 PM) Yet the NFL has fans who applaud guys who beat their fiances unconscious, call each other b****es and the n word. So no, that clip isn't going to confirm anything. Thank God baseball is free and clear of player misbehavior. -

Nor do I think it's a lack of political correctness, but this clip is going to make the rounds and it's going to confirm a lot of people's beliefs that this is a game for old men. -
Well frankly military purchases were some of the few stimulus items that were uncontroversial.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 09:36 PM) Blah. Live a little. Don't be so incredibly oversensitive. It takes all the fun out of life. I'm not a broadcaster. Talk to people about baseball now, everyone thinks it's a boring old mans game. Stuff like this just confirms it. -
How have purchases like that sustained itself among all the other cuts of the past 3 years.

I thought that was crap too and was glad I didn't see it. Obviously you know where that language comes from when talking to an older man but it's sentiment is so outdated and dumb. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) Fales will be the #3 quarterback on the team. They drafted him to develop him not to play this year. You can develop players on the practice squad.

I think this was a great article from Vox speaking with the former Seattle chief of police (WTO protests era) http://www.vox.com/2014/8/14/6002451/fergu...ttle/in/5757650

I will go on record as disagreeing with you both.

Some good points there. But there was an absence of MSM reporting on Ferguson through much of the weekend (really, I think the overemphasis on the looting on Sunday night is due to that being the only coverage the MSM trotted out there) Twitter while spreading some crap (and almost all of it from these anonymous themed twitter feeds) has been incredible for this story. Most of my friends are from Missouri, I feel like I know the ins and outs of this from Saturday afternoon. I think this is the best example of twitter even with the crap parts.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) Enjoy that, it's only costing you a quarter a month on your cable bill. Inside SEC territory, it's going to run each cable subscriber $1.40 a month. Eh, comcast it's in the plus package. feels like I'm paying a lot more than that, but my wife gets DIY network soooo -
Really re: Fales? I don't think there will be much hand wringing there. By the time fales is dropped another player on a nother team will be cut for this guy that there will be limited tape of. I doubt he would get picked up.

the looting on Sunday night has been a reprehensible, but small portion of what has gone on. Peaceful protests have been met with snipers aiming on them. I know the #bothsides crowd must always have their #bothsides needs met, but the government should and must be held to a higher standard, and the behavior and strategy to meet an outraged community with overwhelming force has been a disgusting chapter on a story that has been building for decades.
