  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 02:07 AM) Say what you will about Carter, no hostages died while he was in charge. Kind of different circumstances, an entire embassy taken hostage in one place with a recognized government vs a war journalist taken hostage by a terrorist group.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) As I recall, Reinsdorf is the one who really pushed the envelope in signing Abreu. Seems to me Williams really didn't want to go above like $45-50 million, and Jerry said "if this guy is as good as you say, we may as well spend as much as we have to [sic]" I disagree. From what it sounded like, Williams gave the pre-bidding numbers, and when it started it became clear it would be more, and Reinsdorf trusted their judgement.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 12:23 AM) I will prob get flamed for this, but who cares. He had no freaking business being in that area, esp with a civil war that was raging at the rime of his rpt missing, a reagion that hates the US and all people that are US. next his bosses are to blame for sending him there. for what, to get first hand news from that area. f*** it. didn't anyone learned their lesson from the bosnian conflict or how bout viet nam where there was a bounty of journalist heads. He is a war journalist, that is literally his business.
  4. QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) A lot of words are insults, and people still use them. And I am not even talking about saying "Some redskin cut me off in the parking lot today" just typing that out sounds ridiculous as to why someone would use that as an insult or racist saying. That being said, for a football team that's been around since 1932 I find it a little "eye roll" if you will that its just NOW that people want to wage some big fight against it. yeah, totally. Nobody has ever tried to get this name changed before. Certainly the first I've heard of it.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 09:58 PM) Does anyone else get the feeling that ISIS is slowly biting off more than they can chew before they just get annihilated, be it by the US or someone else? No. They may have more territory than they can chew but they are very adaptable and can change their strategies to hit the weakest spots of the territories when they need a win.
  6. In all likelihood, beheadings have dropped off too.
  7. The teen pregnancy rate in the united states has dropped DRAMATICALLY from when many of us were born.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) Oklahoma Joe's is getting TOO popular now. We didn't have to wait in such long lines about a decade ago...and for my money, go for the pulled pork sandwich. They always give you so many french fries that it will clog your arteries for about a month. At any rate, you also have Arthur Bryant's, KC Masterpiece (I think, on the Country Club Plaza, maybe it's just the sauce now being sold in grocery stores), Gates, etc. My ex used to work at Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ in the Freighthouse and that place does a very good business as well. Arthur Bryant's - maybe KC Masterpiece - no Gates - sauces are too salty Best bbq in KC usually served out of gas station parking lots.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 09:23 PM) Exactly. The name of a football team literally means nothing to the real victims here. I assume you are talking about the people who can't use a racial slur for their football teams.
  10. Greg, go to Oklahoma Joe's. Post us a pic of the tips sandwich. Life is good.
  11. This guys is like, way too famous for being a guard: http://www.windycitygridiron.com/2014/8/20...reakout-in-2014 I would love if he could become a good tackle, as well.
  12. It should be noted that the infamous bulls trainer who cleared a player to play on a broken leg left this offseason. Some of this may have been poor information from training staff to coaches. From what I've heard players like the woman who helped rose with rehab and was hired as a consultant. Hopefully Bulls find their Herm.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 06:03 PM) Would you still sit him during the 2nd half of a b2b if he was averaging 30 minutes per game? That was the specific thing stated and it is something Thibs has never done. I would. Rose's injury is different than the ACL, and I think you'll see a usage of him similar to Westbrook. But maybe he won't need it. Westbrook was hurt in playoffs, Rose much earlier. Maybe he will require less rest as we approach the season.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) Scottie Pippen had a 6 or 7 year stretch of averaging around 38 minutes a game including over 40 when he went to Houston as a 33 year old. MJ averaged 38.6 minutes his Bulls career. Right. Star players play a lot more minutes, regardless of coach. Deng being among league leaders is less impressive when realizing he is just among them and has been remarkably healthy since Thibs took over (comparatively). When Rose came back last year he was playing 30mpg. Does anyone disagree with that amount? He's sitting for about 40% of the game.
  15. "Listen, I could give you a portion of the capital that we've accumulated from the hundred years since we massacred your ancestors and moved you to a piece of land of little value, but that won't help you! What will help you is letting us use a derogatory name we used toward your ancestors to celebrate your culture. You are welcome."
  16. At age 39, Michael Jordan averaged 38 minutes per game. 34 year old german knee transplant Kobe Bryant played 38 mpg. Sure do seem to be a lot of abusive coaches in this league!
  17. Lebron James has never averaged less than 37 minutes per game. Kevin Durant has not averaged less than 38 mpg since his rookie year. In Dwight Howard's bad back 2013 campaign he averaged just over 35 minutes per game. Chisoxfn is right. This is just a dumb meme. Last year, Rose was averaging about 30mpg, just what Westbrook was doing after his injuries. Rose also rested games.
  18. This all reminds me of when it came out that Rick Perry's ranch was called "n*head ranch". The townspeople assured us this is not racist, because that is just the colloquial term for a flower. It's just a flowers name, nobody associates it with anything derogatory.
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) Fair game, yes. Entertaining sports radio that I want to listen to, no. Unless it's just after a big event that I just need to hear any discussion on (Lebron leaving, NFL draft, etc), I just can't bear to listen to any of it anyway. But I guess that's for another thread. Dan Durkin's segments are the only thing worth listening to.
  20. Wish I had seen this sooner. I have a hard time believing I'd follow baseball after that. I'd be pretty devastated.
  21. Considering the amount of money that guy makes for being Ditka the personality and not Ditka the coach, I think criticizing the personality is beyond fair game.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 04:34 AM) Newsy still exists 5 years later?
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 03:44 AM) Is that to be expected this far after surgery? Serious question, I have no idea. I'm looking to how Westbrook rarely played back-to-backs and needed rest from same injury here. Rose will need rest throughout season.
  24. I was so pumped for all the training camp news and now I'm kinda bored with it.
  25. Cigars are gateway drugs to cop killing.
