    2014 Films Thread

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) Watched 42: The Jackie Robinson Story Really good. Alan Tudyk was insane as Ben Chapman. Man I thought that movie was terrible. I think both that and moneyball chose questionable focus points to end the movie on. The editing/script was just a mess.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 01:37 AM) But I'd prefer none of the above Yeah, the poor Cavs will have to suffer through a bad bench in order to have the greatest player in the league, a top ten player and an all star point guard. Sucks to be them. With as much depth as the bulls have they still have huge unprovens at the 2 and the 3 (and the 1).
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 12:05 AM) I wonder if you'd have said that was true if Haslam hadn't been hurt for a lot of that year. Haslam was probably better healthy, but at the time miller was horrendous, he's playing much better now. I'd take Waiters/Thompson/Verajao/Thompson over Chalmers/Haslem/Anthony/Miller in 11
  4. I don't agree with people that this big 3 is better than the heat big 3, but is unfortunately deeper than the first year Miami had and Lebron is better than the first miami year.
  5. Bosh took a big hit and took off on offense to play stellar d and do the little things to win. Consequently, they still went to finals 4 straight years with one of them dropping off.
  6. QUOTE (Boogua @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) That's pretty surprising. I guess people thought the Celtics could still beat them? Celts/Lakers were cream of the crop back the.n
  7. QUOTE (Boogua @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 08:49 PM) Said the same stuff? I recall people like Jeff Van Gundy predicting them to break the wins records and everyone pretty much thinking they were a lock to win the finals until the season actually started and they started to look vulnerable. You had two superstars joining another superstar on a team that had made the playoffs the year before. This wasn't a normal thing. People are only reacting the way they are to the cavs because we have the Lebron, Wade, and Bosh experience to have a baseline to work with. Ha, well people on Soxtalk were saying the same stuff.
  8. Eh, would prefer they suspend Broussard for writing "SOURCES" for PR releases. Lebatard is who he is. Nobody should be surprised.
  9. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 09:01 PM) Kinda curious to see how the Bulls matchup with Waiters and Lebron when they're on the court.....Gotta have Butler or Snell on Lebron at least most of the time. Do they just let Waiters "get his" by putting DMD/MJD on him or go with a lot of Kirk or put Butler and Snell out there at the same time for the most part. I like Rose on Irving, Noah on Love, and Pau on Verajo. Um, yes, I would like a gameplan that puts pressure on Waiters to "get his" rather than pairing Mike Dunleavy on Lebron. I don't think anything of Waiters except it sucks now all he has to do is sit on the perimeter and rain 3s. He'll get paid after rookie contract doing that.
  10. My only hope is Dion Waiters is a secret kryptonite to that team.
  11. The cavs have a whole bunch of players who have never played elite TEAM basketball. The cavs were a mess but everyone liked their individual pieces. Love probably is close but again was never in that fully meshed team. I'm guessing Cavs will look very beatable in nov/dec and we'll all laugh and then they'll dominate late as Lebron pulls them up to the level. Then we will justify how Bulls grit will overcome and then get sadly beaten down as Kevin love throws a perfect full court outlet pass to a streaking Lebron for a windmill dunk and we'll say "Oh man won't Rose-Butler-Durant-Gasol-Noah be so SICK next year". This day sucks.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) No way. MAYBE the last year with Wade becoming old man Wade, but no way from 2010-2013 when Wade was at near-prime. People completely undervalue Bosh too. He's a damn good player who was forced into a really weird role for those Heat teams. Agreed, Bosh/Wade were better basketball players at doing the little things that help win. Their defense was stifling.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 01:58 AM) Let's overreact to a 36 year old wing a bit more, eh? When they already have the greatest player in the world, a top ten player and an all star point guard, the ability to attract solid vets like Marion for less than market value are what will push CLE from great to finals contender. It's not an overreaction at all. Not only did the Bulls not land him, he went to their biggest competitor.
  14. Marion to Cavs all but done. NBA, still good despite itself.
  15. I hate watches on me, but I get one for business because it's a nice way to check time in a way that isn't rude "phone". And it seems less rude than a phone because it can't be misconstrued for checking email/notifications, which...seems to be defeated with a smartwatch.
  16. That's to the extreme, but if he has Romo's ability to evade within the pocket, that extra time for an NFL receiver opens up a lot of windows. I think he'll love the CLE tight end, forgot his name/won't look it up. I'm a Manziel apologist after last year, but I hadn't realized until this offseason how much ESPN had blown up his off-field news items. It will be good to get football back and all that crap can turn off.
  17. Really hoping Fulford can deliver Bryant to Missouri, but obviously it won't be a slam dunk. Lots of chatter that recent Gill-Caesar commit really means little for the rest. Fulford was only there a few years.
  18. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 05:06 PM) Although I agree, I've said the same thing the past 3-4 years and every year Atlanta just flops in the playoffs, so until they can prove to shoot hot when it counts, I'm not too worried about them. Wizards aren't dominating but they got hot at the right moment so i'd still be cautious with them. They took Pacers to 7 games. They aren't a great team, but, like Don Nelson's GS teams, they could play a spoiler against a vulnerable opponent.
  19. The main worry I have here is isn't coop pretty instrumental with Sale/other pitchers for when to pull them due to mechanics falling out of whack? I am nervous about injuries with him gone.
  20. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 04:26 AM) I can't take Washington or Toronto seriously, at least as they stand. Washington has pretty iffy supporting wings and only a slightly above average frontcourt (assuming Nene actually stays on the floor). Even if Wall and/or Beal takes the leap, that will hold them back against better teams. Toronto got career years out of Lowry and DeRozan, I'm not assuming those are trends. They leaned on those two pretty heavily. I love me some Valanciunas, but eventually he has to get his s*** together. If Jonas turns into the 15-10 guy I thought I drafted before this year in fantasy, then things get more interesting for them. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if Atlanta, finished ahead of those two. The Hawks are a bit thin in the backcourt, but they have a great duo up front if Horford is healthy and Teague probably won't shoot as poorly as he did last year. It wouldn't surprise me either if Atlanta did. But Gortat and Nene put on a pretty good show in playoffs and would be a matchup problem for Cleveland if they are on. Atlanta's shooting, if hot, is a terrifying playoff team.
  21. Wizards would be a fun matchup vs Cavs, as would Atlanta.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 02:14 AM) That's what I'm saying...you don't hear very often about guys bottoming out in the minors, and then being able to rebound and still have a good big league career. Didn't Crede have a bad year in triple a in year 2?
  23. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:50 PM) In his second stint starting this year he has actually has been a decent starter. 4.43 ERA and 3.65 FIP in that span is worthy of a rotation spot (esp considering he plays in an AL band box). Many here of course dont like him because he doesn't light up a radar gun, but he has a knack for creating outs. The league had a chance to figure him out and turn him into a batting tee and it hasn't happened. Erik Johnson, who lasted a month in the bigs and has gotten shelled in Charlotte ever since, will get more love. Same goes for John Danks, who has been worse than Carroll this year and costs $14.5m. As long as Carroll holds the course for the rest of the year there is absolutely no reason to disregard him in the 2015 plans at least as a spot starter/long man. Fans want the team to be successful. I think everyone has a good perspective on what Carroll is providing. There was quite a bit of applause when Scott Carroll hit the 43 days of service mark.
