  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) Chalmers can hit wide open 3s, which is what the Heat need. This. And he's cheap.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 03:04 AM) Nobody was pumped up about Hermanson and Politte. There was curiosity about El Duque, what he had left in the tank. Then a LOT of uncertainty about what we were going to get out of Pods, Dye and AJ. I used Iguchi because he was a Free agent signing from another country, not because he was a 2005 free agent. Not sure I've ever been pumped for middle relief help either.
  3. How much longer will smart phones be used against poor people? These damn things are not $50,000 mercedes. They have become so tied in to the lives of a broader population that rich dudes write an article a day bragging about how they lived without cell phones for a month and discovered themselves. Smart phones are probably the lowest end of extravagant things people own. If you asked me if I'd rather have a old ass nokia punch phone and keep my car or my smart phone and vice versa I'd seriously get rid of my car. That said a lot of good stuff in this thread and this'll probably derail it.
  4. I'm not so sure of regular fans ignorance. I remember being surprised how pumped fans were for Iguchi. Regular fans pick up on what hardcore fans are talking about. And hardcore fans are going to be talking about Abreu a lot.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) I think the coaching is the difference rather than the player. It was clear he was prepared and knew the offense. True but I have found him a more competent backup in more than this case. Wasn't it him who started v. GB and Minny 2 years ago? He was a true replacement in that we probably only lost 4 ppg with him rather than 15 ppg with Hanie.
  6. Even though I doubt McCown can keep it up, I feel more comfortable with him than our backups of last three years (including Jason Campbell). He's stepped in time and again and performed better than our other trash backups.
  7. I believe in Emery, but he really can't have a draft as bad as his first draft for a few more years. We really need to hit on a high percentage. That's very hard to do but we don't have the money to keep buying positions on the free agent market.
  8. I do wonder how much less he'll get though. The QB salary is anchored so high I don't even know what a discount would really bring.
  9. I guess the one nice thing is we were so urgent to win this year thinking it was the last year for the defense. But the defense is already terrible so it's less awful to lose the year. Interesting things will come up re: Cutler. We need so much help on D, do you commit to Cutler? You have a QB coach now, can they turn someone else into a star?
  10. I know I've said it before, but it remains so freaking true. If ever you root for a team that's main concern is depth, that team will ALWAYS get ravaged by injuries in the thinnest positions. I don't know what to even think anymore. We thought this was our last year b/c of the defense, but clearly last year was our last year with a competent D. We have an offense. Hooray. Now we need a new D. Pretty much need new blood at every position. Incredible.
  11. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 09:43 PM) Has nothing to do with being jumped. It's not a shot at Missouri. Not their fault Georgia and Florida are spiraling out of control. The bias for the SEC is comical this year. In defense of Mizzou, though, they were kept out of the top 25 for a pretty long time because everyone knows they are terrible because last year and the narrative that they are not SEC ready and can't beat SEC teams. So it wasn't a surprise to see them shoot up after beating conference opponents even if they are not ranked after this (they were still ranked at the time). But Mizzou did just put up 500 yards of offense against the a defense ranked 4th in country in yards given up. They did this without their starting QB and at points without 2 of their 3 RBs in the game. They also only gave up 151 yards of offense. While FLA is bad, lots of teams are bad at offense and still manage more than that. It was a pretty dominating performance and other teams ahead of them lost. But yeah, long long season ahead. I'm just going to enjoy it now, hope we get some recruits b/c of this. And enjoy that Gary Pinkel knows how to go from the hot seat to the coach of the year seat really f'ing fast.
  12. I just want to point out that disingenuous to claim that Bulls/Pacers teams models have failed to bother the heat. The Heat have been in 3 straight finals and won 2 of the last 3 of those. If there was any team model I thought could beat the heat it was the Thunder and they were put away without much fight. The Pacers did take the Heat to 7 games. The Spurs, with a different build took Heat to 7 games as well. The Celtics also took Heat to 7 games. But yes, the Heat won because the Heat have beaten all the teams. So the HEat are a really good team that have beaten other really good teams. I don't think we know much about beating the heat beside 1. limit fast break points 2. force them to shoot jumpers 3. Hit your open 3s. If the Bulls 3pt % and 3pt attempts are as terrible as it was last year I'll be worried. But it should be better. I don't see why Bulls team set-up or Pacers set-up couldn't beat the heat, but you need to actually beat them to know. Nobody really knows.
  13. Dude slams baseballs and gives a look like it ain't nothin.
  14. Is it possible to give a nickname not related to military?
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) Yea, that was playoff level thread intensity last night. I wish I was around when it was developing. I checked twitter and saw three tweets from Dan Bernstein and was like WHOA
  16. Man that was exciting last night, i had no idea the decision was going to be made then.
  17. Yeah that was a classic TAL episode based off amazing work by the village voice.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Such a bizarre day at work. I spend a lot of time working with data from the previous day, except that for today, the "previous day" is September 30. Congrats on being back!
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) Sounds like his injury is minor, he should be good to go in week 8. Season saved.
  20. I'll defend Teague. College PG to pro PG is a lot harder than other transitions, and he came in as a 19 year old (He's only 20 now). His learning curve was going to be a lot higher but he has gotten better. Problem is bulls don't have time for projects.
  21. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 09:55 PM) Well s***, should I even be starting Matt Ryan? Just picked up Foles, he's probably a better play vs Dallas than Ryan with out his 2 big guns against Tampa Bay, correct? Yeah, I think I'd play Foles there. Especially if it's an away game for Ryan. But I wouldn't listen to me on fantasy, i'm 5-7 b/w two leagues.
  22. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) In my dub flex league I need some opinions on picking 2.... Zac Stacey vs Carolina Le'veon Bell vs Baltimore Chris Johnson vs San Fran Joesph Randle vs Eagles Leaning towards Stacey and Randle here. also With Julio Jones out, and Roddy White getting a week off to "heal up" is it finally time to expect something good out of him? Would you start him over Steve Smith or one of my new favs Keenan Allen? re: White, apparentl;y he injured quad last game and that would take more than offweek to heal. Sigh.
