NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 06:05 AM) Precisely, though I'd rather have seen Snell getting more time in the overtimes than Dunleavy. Quietly pleased at how bad we've proven to be.

Ole Miss was actually a pretty good football team this year. Had a brutal schedule. But, their basketball team ruined any good will. I hope they never win.

Yup. And then the ref called a touchback and threw his hat down to signify change of possession. A real wtf moment.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) As bad as a coach as he is, it really is astonishing the climb that Lane Kiffin made at two seperate levels of football, using basically his daddies good name. The guy is a supreme snake oil salesman It seems that snake oil salesman can have a great career in college sports.

Which is great for me, I hate nebraska fans more than any fans. Even kU fans.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:20 PM) But can anyone explain Nebraska going to the Big Ten and being average? Nebraska's been pretty much what nebraska has been for past decade. If you remove the Suh years, which I'm not sure why you would, it's been solid and uninspiring since Callahan started at least.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:03 PM) Remember when Mizzou and TAMU joined the SEC and never had a chance? Didnt take long to prove that theory completely unjustified. Maybe the rest of the division is just "bad" like you say. I do think the SEC teams have made Mizzou better. I think our scheme is better. But I also think that this more proved to me that the recruiting rankings are ridiculous. Mizzou was playing Tennessee and had like 30 less 5 star players. We played injured florida who poor them, had to tap into their 5 deep 4 star players. Much like with Oklahoma/Texas, just being interested in a player tended to increase their star ranking. Made the rest of the big 12 look worse than it was. SEC recruiting rankings probably overly add to that. BUt I also think it just has a number of the best football schools and toughest stadiums. Every away game is terrifying minus vandy/kentucky (vandy for the stadium, they have a disciplined, good team).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:47 PM) Having a relatively healthy D-line would have fixed most of the problems by itself. But going into the season we knew our dline was super thin. You aren't going through an nfl season without injuries to that position. And we need to keep our guys fresh. I think Wootton and Peppers could still be good players but not if they are playing 100% of snaps. We are trying to rotate but it's with garbage players off the scrap heap.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 09:44 PM) Well, the SEC title game is kind of the top of the tree right now. It wouldnt make sense. Especially a middling program like Washington. I know, I don't care about Washington. But it did cross my mind with the success in the SEC that we are even more likely to be picked off for coaches. I'm just less concerned about Pinkel ever leaving than losing our Dcoordinator, line coach, or offensive coordinator who really turned us into a nice spread power run offense.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:38 PM) Realistically we have no idea what the defense would have been this year. We had guys out for the season in the exhibition season, and it has been downhill since. The only main defensive player who hasn't missed time is Peppers. Oh I know, and I feel really bad for Tucker and think he deserves another year. What the hell can he do? He rushes three to help with pass, they get no rush and the LBs are hysterically out of position. Need a pass rush? you need to rush 7, and they won't get there. Stop the run? Hell, put in 10 in the box, they'll be out of position and the RB will be untouched past your linebackers. I do think if you fix the dlineman you fix 90% of d's problems. But once again, that's the most expensive position. We need to hit on our drafts. We need to hit on our drafts. We need to hit on our drafts.

I'm pretty comfortable saying that Pinkel will be at Mizzou. For one, he's getting up there in age. For two, he stayed at toledo for like 10 years, now has been at Mizzou for 13. He just tied our career lead for wins by a coach. If he didn't leave after 2007, I don't see him leaving six years later.

The only thing that scares me about the Bears under Trestman is they are giving off a sort of Cowboys vibe. A talented offensive team with a bad performing defense and makes stupid ST plays and penalties all over the field, good for 8-8 every year. And we have Jay Ratliff.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 06:23 AM) Ha, I don't pull for anyone else in the SEC. They can all get f***ed. But I know what you mean - a lot of SEC fans root for other teams in the conference during bowl season. Sometimes on here I'll talk about how the SEC is the best conference. Because it is. It's insanely difficult week in, week out. So just because I'll tell you that my conference is better than anyone else's doesn't mean I root for other teams in the SEC. I hate Bama. I hate Florida. I hate Georgia (but that's mainly from living in Atlanta and the number of annoying UGA fans here). I'm indifferent towards the others. Woo hoo, indifference! So far I only really really hate Ole Miss in all sports.

So turns out a good offensive team with a horrible defense is just as s***ty to watch as a great defensive team with a horrible offense.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 1, 2013 -> 04:43 PM) I expect to see Mizzou put up a ton of points, it's all about whether they can stop Auburns rushing attack. Not sure stop is possible, just need to keep it from huge plays. Our offense was bizarrely stagnant against a bad a&m d, but I feel good about this after mizzou held manziel to his worst game ever.

What about fsu this year makes you think they have a bad defense? Giving up 7 to Clemson in Clemson? They are certainly better than michigan that just gave up only 42 to them. Btw. Mizzous EJ Gaines held mike Evans to 8 yards on 4 catches.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2013 -> 06:40 AM) Putting Auburn ahead of Ohio State is ridiculous. Mizzou is going to pound them next weekend anyways. That said, it's still entirely possible Auburn gets put ahead of OSU using some basic math. Heck even if they were consensus number 1 in the computers and 3 in the human polls, that would mean a tie with Auburn. Obviously the formula is slightly more complex than than that, but you know there's going to be some ridiculous campaigning for them. I just fainted at the sight of seeing someone think Mizzou will win a big game. This will take getting used to.
