  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 07:02 PM) The Senate has reached a deal. I've yet to see any sign that this will pass in the House. I've seen a lot of Senate spox quotes saying Boehner has agreed to vote on Senate bill, meaning Dems will pass it with like 20 repubs.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 05:03 PM) Congress making a deal so they can leave Washington DC and take another long vacation again till after New Years and they will do the dance all over again. Not to defend congress and all, but their "vacations" consist of meeting with constituents daily for hours. They leave washington to meet back home so their voters concerns can be met, and then brought back to Washington for next session.
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) I am developing a lot of empathy for Boehler. He is in about the worst situation that any speaker has had to deal with, and I honestly do not believe it is even 10% his fault. I don't think anyone could have provided a solution that would work in this situation. Basically as I am now seeing this it's like a poker player getting a crappy hand, no matter how you played it you were going to have to fold. Boehner could have put a bill that would pass weeks earlier. He's doing this to save his job role (speakership). Considering how many people would actually lose their job, I have no sympathy.
  4. I was annoyed before, but figured it would work itself out. I'm honestly scared now.
  5. I can't believe this. I can't believe this. I can't believe this.
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 04:39 PM) My wife works for a major insurer, and as i was b****ing about Ocare at dinner, she informs me that her company was doing testing of the site for the Feds. Or at least they were supposed to. Apparently about 4 months ago they started missing deadlines of making parts of the site available for testing. Then 2 months ago they (the company in charge of the website) terminated the testing contract, having missed 4 other deadlines for submitting pieces to be tested. I laughed a bit, then shook my head in sorrow. Right, but the thing is, deadlines ARE usually missed when building a web site. Stuff comes up. But they had years to get this ironed out and only ironed out what they wanted in Spring 2013. It's just madness.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) That's an odd report given that as of last week, you could see unsubsidized plan prices without registering and the wording about "obamacare's true costs" instead of "health insurance's true costs." Seems more like an opinion piece than tech reporting. I've seen other reports that indicated that based on the RFP and the requirements (and the general government procurement process), there was essentially no way that it was going to work well on Day 1. First, just the massive traffic load on October 1st was something you could either spend a ton of money to address or just deal with for a couple of days until traffic loads drop off a bit and then you'll never have to worry about it again. Would it make sense to spend say $50M for additional hardware when you're only going to see this peak load once? The second is that the website is a middleman that has to communicate with multiple different state databases that aren't structured in the same manner and many of which aren't compatible. It's a non-trivial problem. It's fairly clear in the NYT report over weekend that the issues go way beyond traffic and will not be resolved for months. You are right that the communication to state databases is a burden which is why 6 months of build and testing is not enough to get a competent product out (especially when you have 3 teams not communicating).
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) The defense is just decimated right now. Now it is, but the D being terrible isn't a last 2 weeks thing. My only hope is this stretch of one game in 23 days rests up Tillman to be 100%, gets Pea healthy, gets Tucker time to correct mistakes and we improve rest of year. I'd also be willing to trade a draft pick next year for D tackle help. I don't think with our age we have the ability to waste a year with this talent.
  9. Did anyone see the tweet yesterday that the Bears are like 4th in scoring O but 26th in scoring D? I swear, we can't ever be good at two things at once.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) AP is a freak for sure. CJ hasnt come close to the same production. Jamal Lewis and Terrell Davis fell off the table as well AP won't come close to yardage, but fantasy wise he's still so valuable cause he is like the only RB that they leave in during goal line situations and they almost always run b/c their QBs are puke. Nothing like that in the NFL right now.
  11. The report that the specifications for the site weren't handed out until spring, meaning that build was only 6 months ago for this massive site is ridiculous. Napolitano absolutely should be canned for that, especially that they decided to have no real backup beside the site.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) RB is obviously insanely thin this year but I highly doubt it ever becomes standard to go to 1 rb only spot. You are right but I'm just annoyed that I have to start these crap players.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if there are leagues with QB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, RB/TE next season. I'm starting to think this should be the new standard. In one league I had drafted AP, Frank Gore, and Ryan mathews. 3 starting RBs, in a 12 team league that should be a luxury. This came at the cost of real WRs. 5 years ago this would have been a huge advantage. But frankly the norm now is 15 carries for 44 yards with TDs for RBs being way more luck than ever before. Even the Goalline back doesn't exist, it just seems completely random. Obviously I didn't think Ryan Mathews would light the world on fire. But the adage that players with more touches should have more chances to do something isn't really true for RBs anymore. Getting 10 points from them is a luxury. Getting 30 yards from Ray Rice is far too normal now. I basically plan to get 3 points from him. But what else can I do? There's nothing else.
  14. The death of the RB is really killing fantasy for me this year. I said the same thing last year, but this year is worse.
  15. Slightly better news on James Franklin (QB-MIZZ not HC-VANDY). He'll only miss 3-5 weeks, not the season as was reported. Hopefully it's the lower end, though we'll still need Mauk v. our big games of FLA and USC.
  16. I continue to think that if we throw them a bone, we will see same scenario six months from now. Crisis governing.
  17. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) If it would have been written by myself of Jenks, SS would be screaming for links right about now. Aw, so persecuted.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 13, 2013 -> 12:43 AM) Can't believe this day has come. I'm starting Rivers over Brady. Tear. Unless Gronk suddenly plays. Sigh. I wish I could. My backup is cutler.
  19. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Oct 12, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) Boom, Mizzou!! Us South Carolina fans are bigtime fans of Mizzou's whoopin on UGA. Hope Franklin is ok. Franklin will be out a few weeks, said Pinkel Mauk is gonna be a talent, but not yet. Hilarious how again, the calls are "Mizzou hasn't beat anyone, Georgia was so injured!". I don't recall any sympathy last year when mizzou lost 9 offensive lineman and Franklin. I'm gonna relish this victory, it's hard to beat any team on the road, I don't care if Georgia was injured. They were injured at skill positions, which they have a ton of. They weren't missing Murray. They weren't down lineman. Mizzou lost their best CB and QB in this game, and when only up 2, they...scored 2 touchdowns to ice the game. It was a huge game for the program, but it sucks because had franklin stayed healthy, we are legit SEC contenders. Instead, I mean, we have to see how Mauk does. We have a great rushing attack but without that fantastic game management of him we are screwed. THAT SAID, our defense continues to get better. Our defensive line has 2-3 NFL players on there now. Michael Sam, Kony Ealy and Markus Golden are a revelation. I don't think we can take SC and FLA with Mauk. But I'm thrilled for Coach Pinkel, who doubled down on his system and recruiting and brought his team back. Franklin - get better, man. You had NFL possibility before this, please get back and show everyone up. IF we drop 2 to SC and FLA, but get back and beat out the back end of the schedule, possible BCS birth.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) But they're generally pretty happy to roll over once they lose an election. That's how the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts were passed, that's why 1/3 of the Democrats voted in favor of the Iraq debacle. Tax cuts and hawks still have substantial pull in a large portion of the senate. Gutting health care for poor people, however, is a little different.
  21. What? The idea that democrats doin't believe in democratic policy is somethin else.
  22. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) The ACA would be gone. Senate?
