    2013 TV Thread

I like how Downtown doesn't try to paint their characters as complete heroes. It does bring in characters to highlight how silly it is that they hold themselves in such high esteem, yet have done nothing to earn their money and seem to be quite terrible at maintaining it. That said, I hope they can keep Tom around for more. He's a good actor.
  2. I think ND will hang in there. The Alabama of the 2nd half was much less dominant than the one blowing the s*** out of teams early in the season. However, Saban does tend to do well with long off-periods. That said, I think as it stands today, the team I'm confident could beat any other team on a neutral site is definitely Texas A&M. Great season for them and they just kept getting stronger.
  3. It's a great idea to base all of your judgment on a very small sample size.
  4. A large part of the problem was the Bears did Cutler no favors during that game. They didn't say what happened, and called him questionable to return. They basically threw him to the dogs.
  5. I watched the first few minutes of that yesterday. I don't even know if this is better or worse but at least was comforted that some of those kids at the party knew it was rape and went to go help. Meanwhile the other kid just laughs hysterically about how they killed and raped a girl.
  6. Bills hire Syracuse HC according to Schefter. If lovie doesn't find a job and Andy Reid gets to be a whole organization, I feel like something is wrong.
  7. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 03:11 AM) Bring on the Packers! I can't wait to go to the game next sat As glad as I am we are getting a new coach, bears would have made better playoff showing. Boom #boldunknowablepredictiom
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 09:16 PM) The only one I don't like I guess is over. I think this could be a 17-14 kind of game. Not sure how much either team is going to move the ball. Good luck! Agreed, but you never know, could end up being like 5 defensive touchdowns.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 08:12 PM) If we are going to send money directly to Americans, I wish we would come up with a way to actually get something to show for it, if at all possible. Something like a new WPA program that paid more than simply being on welfare, unemployment etc, and use that to do infrastructure work around the country would fit the bill. There is plenty that needs to be done, there are plenty of things that need to be done, and there are plenty of people who currently have a disincentive to look for work unless it pays significantly more than what they are making. And anything they'd do would be considered pork and greasy politics by among other people, yourself.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) Fans know far more about football than Terry Bradshaw or Boomer Esiason. Especially about what it takes to play QB. Nobody could question Joe Morgan or Tim McCarver
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 07:54 PM) Boomer isn't a Bears fan. Cutler gets ripped on the national shows. Bradshaw tore him a new one. Bears fans always have excuses for him. I was watching a show yesterday where one NFL "insider" said Cutler makes the Bears job the most attractive and the least attractive of all the openings, depending on the candidate, and the Bears can't hire a guy just based on his getting along with Jay because he might be gone in a year. National shows ripping Cutler? They must be right! What do they say about Tebow? Aren't the cowboys amazing?
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 06:47 PM) You can have a spending limit with emergency rules that kick in under certain circumstances, preventing spending of money over budgets. The problem is we don't have a budget, or a limit of any kind. I bring in a certain amount of money per month...so I can only spend a certain amount per month. I don't think it's too much to ask the government be responsible and do the same under ordinary circumstances. Had they done that in 2008-2012 it would have been devastating and undoubtedly would have led to the great depression part II. Is putting 20% of your work force out of work responsible when it could be avoided? The government is not a household. It's not an analogy that should be a part of the discussion.
  13. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) The problem is the debt ceiling isn't the spending ceiling. People often confuse the two. The debt ceiling is allowing the government to borrow the money they *ALREADY* spent. If they don't, the default on those loans...and the people they borrowed from get f***ed because now they'll never get the full amount borrowed. If they were talking about setting a spending limit, it would/could actually do something positive. But the "debt ceiling" as it is now, does no such thing. I disagree on the spending limit but three cheers for the post nonetheless!
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) The Tampa offense did have some moments this season...for about a 5-6 game stretch they were on quite a roll... Maybe zenryan knows a bit more about him...I know he is a Bucs fan. Yeah, I know, but to be OC for just 1 year, seems a little brash. I know he'd had a lot of experience with the giants, and I think that bodes well.
  15. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 06:08 PM) @MikeGarafolo Sounds like Mike Sullivan and the Bears had a very good meeting the other day. Went six hours, about twice as long as expected. I won't put too much into this, but...not a fan.
  16. I find it odd that these great big ten defenses have more points getting scored on them than their offense.
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 06:14 PM) I'm not saying it doesn't. But in typical Washington fashion, they'll change it with a shortsighted mentality, because it's helping them now, but when it's used against them in the future they'll whine that it needs to be reformed...again. The problem is, they'll have already reformed it...only they didn't reform it in a future proof way, they reformed it in a way that was right for them at THAT specific time. This is what they always do. Who cares? If it's good policy for the country to change it, who cares what the motives were?
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 05:21 PM) When was the last time Cutler threw a red zone INT? 2009? You act like we're dealing with 2009 Cutler. We're not. They curiously declined after Johnny Knox went away.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 06:08 PM) You say that, but it's true. This isn't the first time, won't be the last time. Is it a good policy or isn't it? "Let's oppose this because we are worried about future hypocrisy". The senate filibuster is horrible, it needs to be reformed.
  20. Taylor Martinez is a huge tool, not sure why anyone would pay attention to him.
  21. I don't know about Reid being a scapegoat. He had a very talented team that underperformed for 2 straight seasons. His skill position players should match up with anyone. He made a horrible choice for DC, and his offense neglected it's great run.
  22. I'm confused about what's happening with SSM Illinois. First edition had on the senator proposing it, saying they were not pushing it thru the lame duck anymore. Instead they are going to try and do it with the new congress. Does anyone know how good the odds are? 3 days ago it seemed like it was a sure thing.
