QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) If people are keeping their money at the biggest banks, it is a trend, and it is meeting demand. Otherwise the local banks would be stealing marketshare in chunks. Having ATMs everywhere is important, which is why people either stay at, or move to, the largest banks. My qualm was not with the claim that people want more access. IT was with your assertion that people wanted global access. The smaller banks cannot provide convenient access even in a single neighborhood, let alone city, let alone region. A strong regional bank is a thing of the past. So you have 2 choices, hyper local, or global. If you don't want the big banks, you are usually trading off a SIGNIFICANT amount of convenience within even your own city.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) that's not a big surprise really as people have demanded access to their money instantly all over the world. the "people" you speak of consist of a very small percentage of people. That trend is not solely just the market meeting demand. But if I want a smaller bank in my neighborhood, it will have to be the branch closest to me and that's it. There are few smaller banks around me with multiple branches around the city. That's a distinct disadvantage, and there isn't a noticeable middle.

I don't like Tirico as a play by play. I hate the sound of Gruden. I used to love jaws on NFL Replay. But none of them beside tirico is a broadcaster, tirico just doesn't fit my tastes. If this game is so important to espn PLEASE steal Aikman. Aikman is the best.

The amt. of bank options available the past 10 years have precipitously decreased. Yes, there are options, but after Chase, Citi and BofA it becomes hyper regional.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) I came on here basically to say I was totally wrong about that... I thought they'd move Spencer and let Garza go due to his age. Truthfully speaking, Garza is as good as Kreutz ever was or better in the last 5 years. I don't know why people still hate Chris Williams. He's been nothing but solid for basically a full season now. He's a big part of Forte's success too, because he's so athletic, basically a tackle playing guard. All I'm saying is this, who do you think makes the best 5 for our Oline. In an unbelievable turn of events, I can't think of anyone that really needs replacing right now. 5 weeks ago I would have said they all need replacing. Omiyale tends to make everyone around him look worse. But I really have a hard time benching spencer right now. I'm not so sure that our best 5 wouldn't be: LT-Webb LG-Louis C Garza RG Spencer RT Carimi.

Another thing regarding Cutler's play. It seems to me the past few successful weeks, we have been bringing in the TEs to block and leaving only a few receivers to go out on a route. This takes away Martz's famed matchups. But allowed time, Cutler has been getting the ball to receivers that are only open in the sense that he has found a way to fit the ball in where they can catch it. In a game with 3 very good cover corners going against 3, frankly average or worse, receivers, our QB still managed to make that a successful play. No INTs thrown. 2 TDs (one gorgeous). This is his added value with time to throw.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) He's been the most consistent O-Linemen on the team since the start. I think he's found a new home there for the next several years for the Bears. All I have to say to that is mehhh. He also probably has the most stupid mistakes and penalties. Considering the way the right side of the line has played, should carimi move his way back to RT, I like Louis's athleticism at LG, no doubt that he can pull out just as well if not better than Williams. The line is night and day since Louis took over at RT. He had the quickness to do what Omiyale so clearly cannot, he can move back fast enough on a speed pass rush to merely push the defender out past Cutler. BUt since then he has shown dominant blocking ability when they come back inside too. He was owning Cole last night. Second point, I've never seen so catchable a ball get dropped without ever touching the receivers arms, as I saw with Roy Williams deep ball last night. Somehow a throw over that man's shoulder hit him in the chest AND top of the thigh and he never got his arms by it. IF this was Madden it was a throw that would have just been sucked into his chest and transfered into his hands.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Bears just extended Garza for 2 years. Credit needs to be given in a couple of areas here...Martz deserves credit for realizing the fact that Forte is a much better outside RB stretching the field, than he is between the tackles (under turner bears kept trying to run him straight ahead out of the I). Also Tice's MO as a coach is that he likes big, nasty O-linemen that are maulers. Say what you will about the pass blocking (which has gotten better), but this Oline is very good in the running game. They are big, physical and are very athletic with the ability to pull and seal off the edges for forte. I really don't know what the bears should do with Carimi right now, because Louis is playing as well as anyone. While Spencer is playing well, the best option is probably to put Louis at RG and Carimi at RT I'm not do committed to Williams at LG

I can't wrap my head around this scandal. I can't imagine having heard this from someone I knew and not done anything about it. It's so awful.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) Oklahoma and Texas are not blameless, but if you want to talk about inequities that existed in the Big 12, Texas A&M and Nebraska were in lockstep with many of the things that created the inequalities, including unequal TV revenue sharing. Missouri's continued flirtation with the Big Ten also helped create some of the instability that they cite as part of the reason they are leaving to go to the SEC. As far as the LHN - it was something the rest of the Big 12 allowed to happen, including A&M and Missouri. Nebraska also planned to take advantage of these third tier rights, as they had looked into starting their own network. But it all comes back down to you had schools who built conferences around themselves. It will always be an unequal conference that will continue to patch over it's problems and kick the can down the road. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) Supposedly. You can also argue the extra cushioning open up new people to running without pain. I dont buy that cushioning in running shoes changed generations of gaits. Eh, I think that's probably bunk. More people started running for exercise because more people started running for exercise. The shoe technology was likely coincidental.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 05:50 PM) There are flaws in the research. Distance runners who are and have been training for a long time already have lower bodies that are less susceptible to injury, thats why they run so much. Some people need the cushioning to make up for defects in knees etc. I use a "barefoot" Nike shoe for crosstraining which I think is a huge benefit to me as far as stability and foot strength. I think the bigger take-away, is the unforeseen consequences. Extra cushioning on the heel should have been a good thing, but it caused people to land harder on their heel because the initial pain (heel) was not there.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) And who is Missouri kidding? If the SEC wanted them they'd have them by now. I think the SEC will either get West Virginia or stay at 13. ha. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 11:31 PM) Again, it's not all Texas' fault, but I do hate the destruction of rivalries. No, it's pretty much all texas and ou's fault, bullying the rest of the conference. But there's no doubt in my mind this wouldn't have happened had the longhorn network not gone down the way it did. As for recruiting in texas now being harder for mizzou, Colorado's Texas recruiting went UP since their PAC move. Why? Because the story that the texas kids wanted to be seen by their families doesn't hold a lot of water. The more accurate narrative is that Mizzou made some really great lines with Texas high schools, especially South Water. I also don't really give a s*** about rivalries. The best rivalries imo have nothing to do with history, more to do with two competitive teams at their peak going at it. Mizzou-UofI was a good rivalry for basketball in the early 00s, had nothing to do with being in the same conference. I'm not going to cry about losing the KU game, and I think the mizzou-vanderbilt basketball rivalry will be great (i'm very excited about traveling to nashville). BUt most of all, we're going to get more money and not be in a conference so top heavy with 2 programs that the rest get consistently screwed. We may never again have a 1-loss season under Pinkel. But, we'll have a lot of great games to watch every year. And now, I don't have to worry about if the Big 12 dissolves, Mizzou being stuck in the mountain west. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) I think the best reason is that the chance of the Eagles blowing the Bears out seems a lot higher than the chance of the Bears blowing the Eagles out. The Bears haven't played Bears-level defense most of the season. But they wouldn't need to blow the eagles out, they'd just need to not lose by more than a touchdown.

Bengals D is good, we knew that going into the season. Bears fans are the last fans that should rub strength of schedule into team analysis. I like the bengals at that line. I"LL GUARANTEE THAT LINE WITH NO CONSEQUENCES.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) I think its a very good method - because I think part of the problem with Sox hitters last year was sphincter factor. Dunn in particular needs to take fewer marginal pitches. And the quote was nowhere near accurate. Come on, didn't you study journalism? How can you say that this: "Manto doesn't like walks because it sets up double plays" is the same as this... "Do we want adam dunn taking a ball off the plate with a man on third and justin verlander pitching?" "why wouldn't you want that" "It sets up a double play, he can drive that run in...it's not going to be a high scoring play anyway" They are not the same at all, because one is highly situational - which by the way was one of the major gripes people had with Sox hitters in recent years, was not hitting situationally. The first quote is utterly false, the second one is what Manto thinks of a certain situation. Saying those quotes are the same as me saying "I don't like beer because it gets me drunk" is the same as "once I've had a couple beers and I'm driving home, I don't want to have another beer because I might be too intoxicated to drive". They are not the same, at all. Most of the sox problems are not getting on base and swinging at s***ty pitches. I'll give you 2 scenarios, 1 where the team only swings at good pitches, the other where they swing at bulls*** depending on a million different scenarios. Which do you think would do better? And as for your second crap, STREEEEEEEETTTCCCHHHH
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) So of course, the earlier story that Manto doesn't like walks because they set up a double play was nowhere near what was actually said. I'm shocked. I actually agree with this quote anyway. Guy on third with less than two outs, I want people swinging the bat too, if it is a hittable pitch. but that's a terrible teaching method. And that quote that he doesn't like walks because it sets up double plays was quite accurate.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 05:38 PM) Oh man, I thought Community was the best it's been since season 1 last night. I loved it. Parks & Rec. That show is so f***ing good. I did NOT watch The Office for the 2nd consecutive week and feel really good about that. We watched 10 minutes then i had to stop.

Some quotes (I may be off) "We're going to swing until it's not a ball" srry: we're going to swing until it's a ball? i don't know about this quote, couldn't hear. "Any statistics we bring up are a by product of a good at bat" "Do we want adam dunn taking a ball off the plate with a man on third and justin verlander pitching?" "why wouldn't you want that" "It sets up a double play, he can drive that run in...it's not going to be a high scoring play anyway" seems like this is over...but yeah..........sigh

My friend from Cleveland won't watch Hottub time machine, not because it's awful, but because it's too painful to see the alternative history of the browns game.

It was awful because the players were also exhausted playing so many games back to back to back. -
Oh I definitely upgraded from "Boy, this sucks laying pipes and connecting water to suburbia" to "man it's fun killing people with vikings".
