  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) My theory: the smarter a person is the easier it is to rationalize something they believe. Balta and 2k5 for example, both obviously not dummies, hardly ever agree about anything or see anything the same way. But both are totally convinced they're right and the other is totally wrong, and when they see something that goes against what they believe or challenges their assumptions they have an explanation for why that is. I'd bet that if you really scaled most of the people in here on how they felt about things from 2003 to 2011 there'd be quite a few policies they feel differently about, and it's affected by debates on this board.
  2. Cool, lets squash it then. I apologize for prolonging Hudson or Ejack pt ii ORL-ATL tonight, who you guys got.
  3. It's very expensive and I doubt it's efficacy is that good. I have heard good things about livemocha? Not sure it's on the same level but it does offer some more interaction from what I hear.
  4. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) Jesus christ, are you kidding me? My post wasn't baiting anyone to continue the stupid argument. It was an effort to get this thread back on track, as opposed to having the same pointless argument for the next 20 pages like we've had over the last few weeks. "None of the Rose crowd is going to be convinced by statistical arguments, and none of the Paul crowd gives a s*** how little the Rose crowd cares for stats. We get it, you hate them and think they mean nothing. We disagree, big f***ing deal." This is a total "waaa we are better but please lets end this waaaa" argument.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) It's different in the playoffs when you're facing elite front lines though. Boozer is only, what, 6'7"? He has decent post moves but it's not like he's much of a ballhandler or anything that'd mitigate the height disadvantage when he gets trapped under a 7 footer. I was expecting him to take over once hibbard left, he didn't. He needs to back people up more, especially hansbrough when that's who is guarding him.
  6. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) Mo Williams>Chris Paul. hey, it's not the be-all end-all. But under three minutes rose is even crazier. But i've watched enough basketball in my life to know that the last 5 min in basketball are different, and especially surviving the oughts with the bulls team we had, to have someone who is going to take that shot, take the drive and get fouled and MAKE it, is really important. But getting rose to shoot was an evolution. Who knows what kind of player he'll end up as.
  7. why i'll take rose http://www.82games.com/1011/CSORT11.HTM That and Rose's iso success and driving ability are special to his position. And frankly are the reason why i think he's one of those rare pg's that will lead his team to the championship as the main scoring threat.
  8. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) And I better not hear another "Rose shoots because he has to." That's what you guys wanted when you said "Get rid of Gordon, Rose needs to be able to shoot at all times. Gordon is a chucker." Like most of you guys know what a chucker is. Pretty sure we didn't want to pay gordon the absurd cash he got to be a sixth man, when he thought he should be a starter. I'm not arguing that Paul isn't better on f***ing PER, but you would be fired on the spot if you were a GM and traded rose straight up for Paul, an older player with a knee injury under his belt that took him an incredibly long time to recover from. End of story.
  9. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) NBA reviewing Jeff Foster hits That hit was "bad" but the Deng hit was embarrassing. He should be fined for that one. That Rose hit I somewhat come to expect.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) Have you read through this thread? Yes. But I don't read selectively.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) Basically, Rose is not super efficient because, well, he's just not super efficient. That doesn't mean he cant be. He's 22. But stop making excuses. Welcome to what everyone else is saying, now stop shooting for self satisfaction in your quest to pat yourself on the back because you are such a f***ing "realist".
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) I dont think Nash is as good of a player as Lebron or Wade, what else is there to say? I think Lebron may be one of the top 3 players in the history of basketball when its all said and done, Rose isnt 1 or 2, so why would I argue that Rose is better than Lebron? That would be stupid, last I checked Im not stupid. Wade (imo) was better than Rose, but Im not sure if Id take Wade today over Rose, so once again Im not sure what other year stats have to do with today. Once again, Im talking about Rose being MVP this year. I have no idea what you are arguing about. Basically. Who in their right mind would want to rely on wade for a full season or full playoff run?
  13. I really like my iphone, the familiarity was a big reason for it. I knew where everything was and what it would do before even playing around with it. If you use apple it's a big advantage, imo.
  14. BTW IT HASN'T BEEN MENTIONED YET Good god this playoffs have been so much easier to watch with an ACTUAL coach instead of vinny del negro. Things Vinny would not have done, given rose that 3 minutes of rest with 7 minutes left in the 4th in game 1, after which he came back and started the 16-1 run.
  15. clearly the wsj has not seen atlas shrugged.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) Thank you, there is such a disconnect among some posters. I like how it's Rose homerism. HE. IS. GOING. TO. WIN. MVP. There is no homerism. It's f***ing realism. He's unreal, and I'd be posting that if he were on the Golden State Warriors. I just happen to be lucky enough that the NBA MVP, 22 years old no less, is on my team. Did some fail to receive the memorandum? There are a lot of really great players in the NBA right now. And I love the Chris Paul is back, it's ridiculous to leave out his injury history and evaluate him based off of fisher guarding him. BUt as a fan, intangibles do matter. Lebron can never be the best player in the nba after last summer. I don't give a s*** if he technically is pound for pound unreal. If he decided to take the pounding Drose takes and use his inside game he would be even better, but he doesn't try to achieve himself at his greatest, Rose does. And that s*** really does matter. CP3 I love but really until I see him back to full speed for a full season he's just not in the discussion. This team really needed a go-to guy and rose has given them that and then some. I'm not worried about losing games late b/c of waiting for ben gordon to hit a fall away three pointer anymore. I'm very grateful.
  17. I find it funny how b****y the indiana fans are about the foul calls. The pacers aren't just fouling, they are fouling really effing hard.
  18. last year we evaluated hudson based off 3-4 starts too.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) They are WAY better than when they started this season. They are moving in the right direction. they remind me a lot of the bulls 04-07. They play hard, are scrappy as f***, but in the end they are just a jump shooting team which never get very far in the playoffs. For example: last night.
  20. B&B the day after lebron was the most cathartic thing i've ever listened to. It was great. I generally stick to podcasts, i love bill simmons the most.
  21. Out of curiosity, did anyone else scream at the top of their lungs at boozer when he ran to give a screen for korver as drose was getting double teamed at mid court? God he is dumb. I like his attitude though.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 06:16 PM) No, reread what I said. I was marveling at how much better DR1 was at keeping guys in front of him in teh 2nd half. Every guard and their grandmother was torching him in the first half, and suddenly in January I stopped complaining about our guard defense. his number 1 obstacle as far as i'm concerned is getting around the screens, he's fast enough that one on one he can keep in front of guys enough, but once he can get around the screen then I think people will stop talking about his D. The nice thing is that I know he'll put all the effort necessary to become good at d.
  23. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) That's just it though when you say how team-oriented it is. When Boozer is 11th in the league, you can see how flawed the statistic is. Rose has made leaps and bounds defensively though and has shut down the top PGs in the league. As for the Paul vs. Rose debate, it amazes me how quickly people's minds change. Two months ago, it was Deron vs. Rose. Rose is the better player right now and there is no way I would even think about trading him for Chris Paul. I will say Paul is close to Rose, but you guys are advocating for a guy who averaged just under 16 points per game and whose numbers are declining the past three years. That's not a trend you want. And someone who has suffered major knee injury.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Blah blah blah, I hate Bulls fans. OMG HOW DO YOU NOT CALL KEVIN LOVE A TOP 15 PLAYER AURGHTHRHG
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) The Sox have been in Chicago for 110 years. Adding a new team will start from stratch. I really don't think it matters. Baseball for one is a terrible example, because their stadiums are huge and play 81 damn games each year and 2 months of terrible weather. But strangely enough a lot of cubs fans go to sox games and vice versa. There's a huge market for sports in chicago. I think you could find more sustainable support in Chicago for another basketball/football franchise than in a lot of teh other markets we think would be a good fit just because of population.
