QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) Greenwald a must read today. EDIT: Apparently it was from yesterday but I wasn't in the office to read it. Pretty much. However, I don't know what they are supposed to do in this situation. For many of these, the status quo is worse, and if you waste any time, you will be out of power in congress. There won't be an overnight progressive revolution in terms of seats, people just need to recognize that this is going to be a long haul. District by district.

Healthcare reform
I believe it's not 1.3 tril over twenty but rather in the years ten thru twenty. But the cbo states those predictions arenunreliable. But the point is when all mechanisms are in place they see big savings.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) The "slaughter solution" or "deem and pass" which are "non-voting" measures in the Congress actually consist of a vote. The vote is to approve the reconciliation amendment to the Senate bill, and then the house would deem the Senate bill approved. So by voting no to the reconciliation amendment, you are voting no to the Senate bill as well. From what I understand of it, and granted my knowledge of Congressional parliamentary procedure is not the greatest, in either case the Senate bill is considered. It'll be awful hard to talk about the Congress not voting on the bill when they vote on the bill in the "deem and pass" procedure, if that happens. Kucinich announced he's flipping to a yes vote on the Senate bill with reconciliation fixes. Whip count is 208 - Yes. With the Eric Massa resignation, majority in the house is currently 216. 15 Democratic Representatives have yet to commit to voting on this package. Of those 15, 10 of them voted for the original House measure. Unless two of those people flip to no, this passes and health care reform happens. I think it's becoming increasingly clear that stupak was bluffing, he may have some, but his "dozen" was more of a mccarthyesque briefcase.

You are right NSS. In reconciliation, however, you don't need nelson/landrieu, and that's why they won't be put back in.

Financial News
possibly, but bernanke isn't really doing any favors to Obama right now. I think a bigger problem is this new inevitability with the fed, where clearly only one person can run it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Who is Dennis, and voting on what? What's up with the unexplained posts lately? Kucinich was holding out on voting for health care reform (he voted no the first bill, a much more liberal bill, which he said wasn't far enough), and then today at 10 am he declared he'd vote yes. It still boggles my mind that the house has had such trouble passing a more conservative bill than the one they ALREADY PASSED. ridiculous

pssh, i've had my powerbook for 5 years with no problems. NO PROBLEMS. I've dropped the thing off of a loft onto a wooden chair. The thing is amazing. It's outlasted all of my friends PCs and only not outlasted the other friends who have powerbooks.

I don't hate kotsay just like I didn't hate Wise. I hate ozzie for continuing to find the least talented offensive players on the team so many damn at bats.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) And I'm all for reforming those types of things. I'm absolutely against being able to drop people already covered and having caps. I'm not against some of the proposed reforms on the insurance industry, I think it needs to apply to ALL insurance, including Auto, Life, etc... But they still have to do something about the fact the doctors/hospitals charge whatever they want. One reform without the other is absolutely meaningless. All this does is change who is paying for it, not the amount being paid...which is the mother f***ing point in the first place. Well, then I guess we just have to hope this transparency in pricing thing works out to drive costs down.
