  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) In terms of comparisons, Jose Contreras was as dominant as any pitcher can be down the stretch. Garland and Buehrle were strong and aside from Duque all pitchers were consistent 200 inning guys that you weren't concerned would be worn down come playoff time. Contreras, Duque, and Garcia all had playoff experience as well. Garcia also still had his nasty stuff. Long term, I'd take the current rotation over that rotation (plus we have 5 starters and Duque was not really much of a starter) but post-season wise, I consider the front end of that rotation far more dominant, plus the experience is key in the post-season. Heck, even as great as this pen has been, its hard to knock Cotts/Politte/Hermy/Jenks who were downright un-hittable. I would say this offense is superior though, although that offense was better at certain things. I would take that pitching staff though, just because it had at least one true "ace" (Contreras). Contreras was throwing video game stuff for the stretch run of that season. Contreras didn't establish himself until post all-star game as the ace, so I have hope. He was still good in the first half, but had the same poor run support that poor Danks is having now.
  2. I thought you were just joking on whether he'd 'flip flop' after the media played up a non-existent flip flop by Obama.

bye pablo. I'll never forget your stolen base after pinch running for AJ in the ALCS. Crede knocked you in and we didn't lose after that.
  4. QUOTE (maggliopipe @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) This is exactly the kind of move that Kenny has shown a propensity to swing in the past. He targets a guy with an injury-checkered past and/or great yet unharnessed potential signed to a deal with cost certainty. I'm thinking Javy, Thornton, Dye, Thome, etc here. He figures he puts him in Herm's hands to help deal with the injuries (Sox having a fantastic history of keeping pitchers healthy) and Coop's hands to deal with harnessing the potential, and if he can get a taker for Contreras in the offseason, he's not adding any salary to the rotation. The biggest wrench thrown into the equation is if Burnett indeed has an opt out clause in his contract. I'm not saying I'd love Burnett but I also wouldn't be too upset if they got him in a salary dump type of move from Toronto. while this is true, he does these trades during the off-season.
  5. I'd take our first half record in 05
  6. yeah, i'm faster now. Tha's fosho
  7. Sorry to de-rail, but man, we have 3 hospitals in town. My friend had heartburn and couldn't keep food down and pain all in her abdomin. She went to the county general. When they treated her, they said it was just acid reflux and to not come back for 7 days unless it's still hurting. So she went to the Mizzou hospital, and it turned out she had appendicitis and obviously needed emergency surgery. Can you imagine had she heeded first advice? Don't you initially feel better when your appendix bursts? Awful. So...I'd suggest getting second opinions.
  8. ... ... did he have this hot poker handy?
  9. i hate when I forget to uncheck the boxes.
  10. He was doing what to their arms? Like branding them?
  11. I agree Rex, there are a few things that excite me about Obama and why I do think he is a change candidate: 1. The amount of money he's made off of small money donations - I don't believe public financing for campaigns will ever work. But, what gives me hope with the internet is now with it so easy to give money to your candidate, these 100 dollar donations creating a substantial amount of revenue to the candidates campaign fund, the large $4500 donations are less important and the money is spread out over enough people that the lobbyists have less weight. (But I'm not one of those people that feels all lobbyists are bad) 2. His grassroots organization - He's gotten a very apathetic generation to be very excited in the political process. Whereas in 04 they were just on listserves, Obama has utilized web 2.0 with myBO to create an interactive site where supporters can set up meetings with other supporters and help with volunteering 3. He's not afraid to ask the country to do things - Not everything can be done by the government, clearly. He seems willing to just ask the American people to have dialogue and sacrifice. Will it everyone participate? No, but it brings awareness and any individual who would participate in things such as taking a cloth bag to the grocery store instead of plastic is one more person whose helping. Not everyone pays attention to the politics game, and really this surrogate fighting in such prominence is a created distraction by the ADD 24-hour media. As a candidate, both have been courteous and have avoided the public fighting from close officials we've seen in the past. So I do think there is change coming. A new 21st century election campaign is being run, so yes, that is exciting for a young person. It does seem like this election will see a heavier involved democracy and I do think that should be heavily attributed to Obama and his campaign.
  12. I was embarrassed by Morrissey's attempt at humor. The email about how his kids were rappers were so stupid.
  13. I don't care if there is criticism of obama, obviously I came in here for discussion, but the responses to athomeboy posts are getting old and petty and not interesting at all. Kap, you don't like Obama because he's a democrat, alright. We know.
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) RAH RAH RAH! IMPRESSIVE! WOOT! He's just messing with people's heads. Psychological stuff. WOOOHOOOO! Your post pretty much tells me what I need to know about Obama's substance, IMO. alright kap, we get it. After every athomeboy post you are going to make fun of him and say how it proves that Obama is a bad candidate.
  15. for real, we aren't talking about a varitek/AJ difference here. Any of these guys could make it and be pretty deserving
  16. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 12:49 AM) I strongly disagree with all of you. Dye has been very good for us this year, but he does not deserve to get voted in over Longoria. The all star game is made so worthless by all the fan voting. Because the players who are more well liked (usually due to what team they're on) are the ones who become all stars, not the ones who deserve it per their performance on the year. Vote Longoria. If you vote a player in just because he plays for your team than you are just as bad as all those people who voted for the Boston/Yankee players like crazy. The all star game should be a matter of performance, not popularity. Now some could make an argument that Dye is more deserving than Longoria, if you really feel that way than vote for him. But considering that Evan started the year after Dye, and has played GG caliber defense, you gotta put him in there over JD. because we get snubbed, we snub them. I won't cry for the tampa bay fans. They probably won't notice anyways.

    THAT WAS AWESOME
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 11:03 PM) The Angels are leading the AL West, not the A's. The Angels got 3 guys in- Saunders, Rodriguez, and Santana. The Sox got 2 guys in- Crede and Q. The Rays got Kazmir and Navarro in. But, the Rays could get another guy (Longoria) or the Sox could get another guy (Dye). My mistake, heh. Point still remains somewhat.
  19. Wait...so the three AL first place teams make up how many all-stars? 2 for white sox, 1 for A's, 3? devil rays?
  20. well, I mean the cubs have the best record in baseball and aramis has had numerous big hits. He's an all star. Fukudome...eh.
  21. pheew, and we were worried we were gonna get swept in our home ball park. TAKE THAT A'S!!!! DANKS!!! 9 beers for you.
  22. it would be WISE to keep dewayne WISE slogans galore.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 07:51 PM) Anyone up in the pen? Dotel
