QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) Yeah, agreed on McCoy sucking. Along with Charles they lose their top WR this year to go with Limas Sweed who got hurt midway through the year. They lose all 3 of their 1st team All Big 12 guys (Charles, DB Marcus Griffin, and an OL). Their 2 2nd team Big 12 guys, both DL including Frank Okam, are gone. They lose a few more key contributors. 3 of their starting secondary. It would be completely foolish to say they are going to be bad next year because they are Texas, they have the talent to replace these guys. However, with the focus of their offense this season gone, noticeable losses elsewhere, and Colt McCoy still starting at QB they can definitely struggle by their standards in what should be a strong year for the Big 12. it's hard for me to worry about texas tech when we play so well against that offense. I mean damn, if we can find someone to replace garret (who straight up sucks), I feel our D will be just as good, if not better next year. Especially with the way Ziggy Hood played, spoon getting better, and willy mo being a straight up beast. offensively, what do you think the chances are T. Temples appeal goes through? no chance in hell? -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 05:50 AM) If Fields doesnt hit 30 hr, ill eat my hat. seriously, he only hits 2 more HR in a full season? That'd throw me off.

well, after the way MSU played BC, i think vatech's shining win didn't look as great. Plus the first game i saw VT play eastern carolina was handling them in the first half...so i've seen vatech play 4 times, 1 blowout loss, one win against bc, one loss against bc (who nearly lost to MSU), and one close game against eastern carolina. So no, i didn't think KU would get blown out, I thought they were good, I was glad we beat them and I thought it was as good a victory as any this year. KU did a much better job of getting their run game going, and I think that's when Reesing is his best. OF course, that's probably true for all QBs. As for VaTech, good D, not much of an offense. So, their D was facing an O that doesn't make mistakes, a team that doesn't make mistakes, and so takeaways were slim, and KU's d showed up big. -
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 06:14 AM) You like them because it is not our team. Contreras, Danks, and Floyd are finished/not good enough yet respectively because, emotionally invested, you watched them do poorly last year. Bonderman, however, is great. He's Bonderman, that guy who everyone's talked about for a few years and he's gonna be great, so he's very good. Never mind that he was bad last year and in 5 full years as a starter he's had exactly 1 year that was at least league average. He's good, he's to be feared, he's Bonderman. Oh, and Willis, too. He almost won a Cy Young. Last year didn't happen. And Kenny Rogers is fine he's great. He started 11 games last year. Contreras, that guy is old, he's done. He's 48, really. Sure he was pretty awesome when he was like 46, but he's 48 now. Rogers is only 43. what the hell is this about?

was KU favored? congrats jimbo's -
i don't know about that, I really like Det's rotation, at least 1-2-3, it is their bullpen that I don't think much of.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 04:41 AM) Westbrook isn't that good...but dude...Yes, Verlander is that good. amen.

QUOTE(Reddy @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 04:20 AM) this is me eating crow. i truly didnt believe that this election would defy history but it did - people came out, the youth came out, the independents came out. congrats Obama. but lemme tell ya, we're not done yet. I'm headed to New Hampshire tomorrow to work my ass off. if we can get 2nd in NH and knock off clinton it's a whole new ballgame. uh oh, sounds like the dean speech, watch the yelps.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 03:13 AM) Sadly, I think yes. will you guys get off this, he's always going to say things like this. let me make it clear to you all: every year, KW will say this "were out to win a championship THIS YEAR" but does he believe it? I think there is a reason he got a young OF with a 5 year contract.

QUOTE(TheKillerB's @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 10:25 PM) The only reason I voted yes on this is because somehow Kenny Williams traded Gio twice and received Thome and Swisher in return. Even if Gio does pan out, that alone is semi-impressive. that's a funny point, though, he has not been the centerpieces in the deal.

if it could've landed bedard it would've.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) can I get a link of where he said that? If we got some of the LA scouts, I'd have a little more faith... LA=latin america, sorry.

QUOTE(juddling @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) I'm not saying Santana is going to be a Cy Young winner but i think he could be a nice #3 or #4 guy which would fit well with MB and Javier. Besides....apparently it's a forgone conclusion (reading this board) that both Danks and Floyd are going to suck so you have to have someone pitch....and as an added bonus..I'd like to see Figgins in CF and at the top of our lineup. 1.Figgins 2.Cabrera 3.Thome 4.Dye 5.Swisher 6.Crede 7.A.J. 8.Fields 9.Richar/Uribe why'd we trade for quentin then?
-
but what a stud.
-
we've also redone the entire scouting dept. from what 29&poplar has told us, including spending much more money on LA scouting.
-
yeah but, he's not ready/may not be good.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) Let me preface this by saying I dont want Owens in the lineup. The bantam weight speed guy is one of the annoyances of this team. But you build a team around balance. Building a team that has power in the middle of the lineup, followed up by a lot of guys who can hit doubles would play very well at this park. Having a large amount of high power, high strikeout guys make for some really nice 11 run games followed up by a 0 run, 2 hit, 12 strikeout corpseball effort where everyone is trying to hit the majestic home run when we need a single late in the game to drive in the guy from second. The wind from the bats missing the ball, and the players making the ooh I just missed it face when they fall to one knee after striking out on a low and away pitch makes me shudder. Dont worry, with Walk and the park Swish will hit himself some home runs. see, i agree if your power hitters are like crede that get you 25 dingers but are getting on at a .315 clip, but when they are getting on base + hitting power like we think quentin will do and know swish will do, it's a lot different type of player than the uribe and crede power hitters we had. Fields is that type of hitter, but i can tolerate it hitting 7th, you know.
