Obama's Pastor
QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:14 AM) obama's entire campaign has been brilliant. when everything started, i didn't think he had a chance. with clinton's connections and experience i thought she'd kick obama's ass up one side of the block and down the other when it came to running a campaign. instead, it's been the opposite, which is the biggest shock of this entire election cycle thus far for me. twice now obama has been able to turn huge potential criticisms into positives. first he spun his lack of washington experience into a positive by championing himself as the change candidate. the message of change has been used many, many times before but it rings hollow when it comes out of the mouth of a washington lifer. now, he's pretty much turned this race issue on its head and looks to be gaining momentum at a critical time. this is really what impresses me. His campaign was a speck in october. He was a first time runner for president, with little national experience, running against one of the, if not the (probably still behind kennedys) name in Democratic politics, with her millions behind her and her name and her ex-prez husband, and him being way behind, and now he's ahead. This could not, absolutely could not, have been done without a perfect campaign. A 50-state strategy isn't always the best, but it was such a good idea, especially with the dems system of splitting delegates. It's one of the reasons why I find Clinton's "I'm the only one who can take on the Republicans" laughable. If you can take on the Clintons, you can take on anyone. and imo, Obama's incredibly fast socialization to the Senate is my reason for not giving a damn about his lack of national policy experience. History of American presidents also tells me that experience is not a great judgment of presidents. And, I mean, it doesn't need to even be said, but Rumsfeld and Cheney had mucho experience, and that whole era sucked.(for me)

Obama's Pastor
http://blogs.chicagoreader.com/politics/20...erend-division/ as to the argument, seems a little dense: He denied ever hearing the 9/11 or "God Damn America" statements. In the speech, he said he's heard controversial statements made. I.e. while denying and condemning those specific statements, he's not pretending he had no idea he had a pastor who has said controversial things, just that he wasn't there for those specific ones. IMO, this is being forthright, because what, in my lifetime experience, a normal politician would do is remove this guy from his campaign, condemn him and act like he had no idea his views.

Obama's Pastor
Ugh, CNN right now. This journalism is why TV sucks, and why a lot of newspaper articles suck. Hey, lets get an angry guy on one side who won't agree with any part of the speech, and one who loves the speech and have them yell at each other.

Obama's Pastor
QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) when the story first came out, Thursday I believe it was, Fox was the only one to show it. CNN didn't do anything on it, and neither did CBS or NBC. Now, they kinda have to do it because it has gotten so big. But it is obvious the majority of the media is in the tank for Obama. Not only on television but also in the newspapers. The Chicago Sun Times, the New York Time, etc. I'm not saying Fox isn't unbiased, because they are in favor of McCain and the Republicans, but at least they will report all the news. Fox's bias for Republicans is nothing compared to the majoirty of the media's bias and love for Obama/Democrats. man the inaccuracies of this post

Obama's Pastor
It is probably somewhere in the middle. I don't know, I just don't put too much stock in this. Pat Robertson has made some pretty outlandish comments and he's been pretty close to the president. Billy Graham has made some outlandish comments and was very important to a number of presidents. This man has obviously helped Obama find faith and understanding. As far as political views, perhaps Obama has taken some to heart, in that he has fought against poverty. But this whole trying to paint him as an unpatriotic, angry black man is silly. Nobody who didn't love this country would enter themselves into the mudslinging contest that is a presidential race. They at the very least wouldn't get far. And at the very least they wouldn't run their campaign on hope running a positive campaign. He doesn't want to shed this guy, so it leads me to believe he is a friend. A close friend. I don't see this being a big deal for me either. Obama hasn't run his campaign highlighting he's black, if anything he's tried to downplay and strived to be a candidate for everyone, he hasn't ignored any states like Clinton (not counting MI and FLA) just because of unfavorable demographics. So I don't think a reminder that yes, he is half-black and shares some views that blacks have been treated poorly by America is such a bad thing.

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) If he hasn't visited prostitutes, how does he know what Spitzer is going through? yeah that's what he was saying

Obama's Pastor
wow, right. A black preacher getting angry about injustices and poverty is on the same lines as the God hates F**s Church? Talk about a stretch.

but more confusing is the pitchers they chose to show struggling. I don't think our plan was to have dewon day up anymore. Wouldn't we be going to Broadway and Egbert next?

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
the plus side to Obama's "50 state strategy" is he can reclaim states like new hampshire, michigan, iowa, missouri, wyoming that have gone republican. They aren't the sexy FLA and OH delegates, but they add up.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) I would have loved it if when the Iranian Mini-President would of been confronted by people peforming citizens arrests. Then again the student body was too busy fawning over him. what a load of absolute false bulls***.

By the way, NY Post's headline two days ago for this scandal: Ho NO! I hate the paper, love the headlines. (favorite being: "Ike beats Tina to death")

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) Chicago is so pro-Obama it isn't even funny. Everyday there are articles in the papers, but the whole Chicago media is in love with the guy. You hardly hear anything for Hillary or McCain. Well, it was a bunch of Chicago reporters who grilled him on Rezko so hard he walked off stage a week or two ago.

Well. At least he took on the music industry while he was AG for a little bit. I bet they could've escaped some heat had they offered him to buy him women.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 11:01 PM) Oberweis is just a lousy candidate. he needs to stop running for office. this is how I feel. I heard it was a great GOTV campaign and kudos to Obama for his help, but had the republicans ran out a legit candidate, woulda been a piece of cake. BUt Oberweis wins primaries because of money and name recognition his opponents can't match early on.

Article: Why John McCain Will (Likely) Be President
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 08:21 PM) And you can act like its common knowledge but most people do not realize that states generally vote by historical trends. No one has really brought up some names of states likely to flip, which is what this discussion should be about. Which states will the Democrats win that they lost before? I just dont really see that many states where its likely to flip, thus my belief. /shrugs I could have also said that whatever way Ohio goes the election will go as Ohio has only gone for the wrong candidate once (Nixon over Kennedy) well, yes. But there will still be swing states. Even bush didn't win the exact states he won in 04 as in 00 but it looked pretty much the same.

Article: Why John McCain Will (Likely) Be President
that's a strange hypothetical, though. Of course if the results remained the same as last election the republicans will win. They won last election, so if the results remained the same, they will win this election. I mean, yeah.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
it's just tragically funny. States (from how I understood it) moved up their primaries to up their importance since recently primaries have been shored up Before or on super tuesday. They try to do that and the democratic party punishes them. In the year they do that, may be the first split convention since...er, I'm too young to know, and their states votes would be incredibly important in the campaign.
