  1. I was just listening to Eric B. and Rakim's Paid in full in its entirety last night, i played it at a party i was having...and it was soooo good...
  2. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 02:27 AM) Leave Harris in, see if he can have a multi homerun game. haha
  3. this is refreshing and relaxing eh everyone?
  4. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 11:21 PM) Man...I've been taking a beating around this place lately. You would think I deserved it or something because I was overly opinionated. at least its better than this story: this girl was at this lecture from a guest speaker who was a leading DJ in the field of 'sampling' and such...and the girl asked a question on where he'd found the samples or something to that accord, to which this speaker took offense ... (paraphrased) "What do you mean by sampled? If I were to take a field recording, and render the sounds completely different, and use it in my set, would it be sampling? If i were to take sounds from an artist and make them into a whole different tempo as to be unrecognizable, is that sampling? Besides, every artist 'samples'. Every noise created on a guitar, is inherently sampling from the inventor of the guitar, because with this instrument he also created every sound on it. So unless they create their own instrument, they are sampling his noises" This is of course complete bulls***...because YES, if he takes a field recording it is sampling because it was someone elses sounds, that they composed, and if he takes an artists beats, even changing them, he started off by 'sampling' someone elses notes. And Saying you have to invent an instrument to have the sounds be original is like saying i am sampling from apple because i'm using their machine to type... Sorry, a bit off topic but i hate soo many djs...(i would say all but i heart dj shadow, aphex twin and four tet(though he doesn't sample i don't think), and the go! team)
  5. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) I listened to the clap your hands say yeah the other day with my buddies, I couldnt deal with the monotonous lyrics and the average music... The Dears are ok, the guy does have a good voice. the only things that get on my nerves from CYHSY is they really are just like a compilation of a lot of bands mixed into one, which makes me worry if this abundance of good music in the scene is ending, or if this band was just very good at mixing a variety of influences. But songs like yellow country teeth with that opening twang bit of guitar and Heavy metal, the way he sings what ever happened to heavy metal in such a peculiar, and awesome way, it makes the songs. They aren't the most original band out there but they put out a damn good debut and thats worth the attention they recieved.
  6. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) I was asking about Death Cab. I missed the other stupid band name. pretty good band though.
  7. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) OH...them... Man, I think I have fallen out of touch with music to a degree. Back to my Bing Crosby and Andrew Sisters CD. I checked out the Death Cab though... were you talking about them or clap your hands say yeah?...cause both kind of suck
  8. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) IMO the new Death Cab for Cutie cd is awesome. i guess for death cab fans it could be an alright cd... and i'm listening to the dears no cities lost...don't lose the faith is a great song...it does seem to be a bit cliche, at points it almost feels like cover songs? The man has a great voice though...(especially when i was just listening to Clap your hands say yeah)

    No VMA thread?

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) Ska always just sounds really goofy to me. I always expect to see juggling clowns running around. I LOVE Marley, but have never heard any other reggae I've really liked. even peter tosh?
  10. QUOTE(Spiff @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 05:45 AM) 1) I read an article in AP about Ian Curtis's last days a few months ago. Really chilling stuff, comments from the band about how they didn't have any idea what was going on with him. I don't care if Joy Division/New Order gets a ton of pub, they spawned a whole (latent) generation of imitators. 2) Pelican - The fire in our throats will beckon the thaw = awesome album. i can listen to a song of pelican and be happy, but an entire album gets played out real quick... i don't think as many people would know joy division today if it wasn't for "imitators"...people who use them now most of the time just want to sound cool
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) I didn't know Timo was a rookie? hahaha

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) Can someone fill me in as far as talking about these 'snipers'? I haven't been paying enough attention to this, shame on me, but can someone tell me a little bit about what's going on...? i guess a bunch of maniac looters had stolen a bunch of guns and are basically confronting and threatening medical workers. Right now, those people have the power for prolly the first time in their lives and are ruining others because of it. A sniper was shooting at a humvee convoy evacuating patients from the flooded hospital in NO
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) Looks like I should be investing in some gas prices. Wow, s*** is just getting outrageous. Though in Europe, isn't it around 5 bucks a gallon? most of that's their own doing...
  14. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) I agree Crooked and Slanted are both solid. What's new that I should get my hands on? Any recommendations? from pavement? um...new stuff i got is new 'the new pornographers' - twin cinema, and thats really good pop, i just got a bunch of belle and sebastian but what i've been listening to non stop basically is animal collective - sung tungs and an advance of animal collective - feels as well as teh new broken social scene.
  15. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) I'm not a fan of any of that stuff, really. It just doesn't move me at all. Pavement I like a lot. "Slanted and Enchanted" is timeless. for me, crooked rain, crooked rain slightly edges out slanted and enchanted...then it goes wowee zowee, terror twilight, and brighten the corners...i don't dislike any pavement album...which is pretty ridiculous when i think about how few bands i can say that about.
  16. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) I will tell you tomorrow. My Limewire will be hooked up tonite if you have a pc get slsk i think you'll enjoy it much more
  17. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) Well, Muse is much more rocked out than Radiohead ever was. They are starting to develop the oddness of Radiohead though, thats for sure. I still love the song "Hysteria", I think the opening bass/guitar riff is killer. have you ever heard the bends?
  18. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Speaking of The Killers, the Cure, The Smiths.... etc, does anyone like The Dears? Their last record has grown on me slowly, but in a very big way. It's kind of Morrissey-esque, with slight hints of jazz and trip hop. Anyone? i got the dears album but i haven't listened to it... brits say that pavement sounds like the fall for basically one song...(conduit for sale) and that malkmus was a huge fan of the fall. Also the fact that mark e. smith made some comment about malkmus riding in a corvette? i unno...its a dumb argument but its been made... yeah, of muse, travis, and coldplay...muse is the only radiohead ripoff i get mildly entertained my... now MEW on the other hand...is aceeeee
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) LOL, Joy Division and Interpol fans hate that comparison. I like JD and really like Interpol. that one doesn't get me as mad (when its used as a negative cause there obviously are similarities) when people say pavement ripped off the fall (WHich came from maybe three songs in their entire catalogue)
  20. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) ....or pick up an Interpol record. AHCVHRFHGHGHGHRHRHRHRGHGHGHGHGH... no, they sound like a bunch of early 80's bands not exclusively Joy division, plus they don't use synthesizers...Patrick wolf sounds like joy division cause he has a deep voice and uses synthesizers sometimes!...no, interpol was an integral part of a scene which influenced interpol but interpol is not joy division 05...and even if they are... i like joy division. I was -6 when ian curtis committed suicide. That makes me feel old. haha, in glastonbury(?), when death from above came on early for some other band, the crowd was booing, and the drummer/lead singer said "I gave Ian Curtis a backstage pass and he didn't show up...he's soooo dead" .... i found it funny....

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) LOL. What happened to that nice rump she had? It's gawn. She kinda looks like Elizabeth Shue in that pic. yeah you is right... i don't know if i used that smiley correctly or not...
  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) The strange processes of my brain: Im listening to my Ipod, and the song "Dead Souls" by Nine Inch Nails(on The Crow soundtrack) comes on. Its one of my favorites, and I remembered that it was a cover from a late 70's band called Joy Division, and that the lead singer had died somehow. So naturally i googled Joy Division to get the story on the band. Much to my surprise, I found out that when the lead singer of Joy Division died in 1980, the remaining members stayed together and became New Order. You find out something new and cool every day. I have been a New Order fan for quite some time, and I had no idea of the connection to Joy Division. go get 24 hour party people...I love ian curtis' voice/lyrics, i like new order, but i absolutely love joy division, closer and unknown pleasures are just awesome...'love will tear us apart' is prolly one of the best songs ever...it kind of gets annoying how praised they are in some circles because some people feel every band post 1980 ripped off joy division ...i hate those people... anyways...i'm pretty excited to see the hold steady but the constantines live...really is just amazing.
