QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) Are you pumped about "The odditorium...." which is coming out next month? I thought that the Warhols were awesome when they came out, and have gotten progressively better each album. I still havent seen them live, but they seem like they would be really fun. i already have it and its very good, very poppy...down like disco is quite good...awesome shoe-gaze rock... spoon, BRMC, and dandy warhols all put out real nice rock and roll records this year...

Cedric Benson finally signed
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) If Thomas stays healthy(which is a big IF for any running back, and a little moreso for Jones) I predict a big year from him. He almost made 1000 last year and he missed alot of time. plus he had a paper thin offensive line...(and he didn't miss that much time)

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) Not sure which band you were referring to. TBJM has had a lot of member changes and taken a few breaks. The Crowes have also had a few member changes and broke up for like 4 years. But they're BACK baby. I'm sure Kid Gleason is ecstatic. i was talkin about the black crowes...

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) Yeah TBJM is still underground, which is just fine with me. NO, thank God. The Crowes opening for Petty was a joke. No way could I see them as his backing band. yeah, i kinda thought they broke up...i was suprised to see their name...

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) About a month ago I went to see Tom Petty and The Black Crowes. Mostly The Black Crowes. Although it was enjoyable, an opening slot is always kinda lame because of the shorter set time and poor sound etc. Well, The Crowes will be back. This time to The Riv...on Halloween night. I got a few tickets and it totally made my weekend! Also gonna see The Brian Jonestown Massacre at the Metro in 2 weeks. ssweet...i loved that doc "dig"...i really didn't listen to them until then, i'd been a dandy warhols fan for a while... i first read that as tom petty with the black crowes as like his new backing band

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Modest Mouse I'm probably way behind. I know. But better late than never. one can never be too far behind with them...just get moon and antarctica and your hooked, then you'll get lonesome crowded west and be fascinated, then you'll get long drive and be addicted and calm, then youll get building nothing out of something and hardcore, then you'll get good news and be dissappointed. But the back catalogue is sooo good... and if you do like good news, check out wolf parades lp - apologies to the queen mary in september, isaac brock produced it.... BTW, new broken social scene = pretty darn good.

Orton = Bears starter
i think he deserved it by playing the best...however, i'd hate to see our defense be wasted for another year because of our offense.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) Death Cab's new album comes out on Tuesday. I heard a couple of their new songs at a show in San Diego a few weeks ago and am pumped for the new album. i don't want to be a bearer of bad news...but i got an advance...and...well, this is not a step forward or backward...its just a poor poor, seemingly forced album. There are sparce creative moments...yeah... that sucks about the stones...i might be able to see andrew bird over november break

Back to school
QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) I loved Marketing for some reason. I don't know if it was the teacher or the fact that two of my best friends were in class with me. I had a blast creating magazine ads, TV ads, newspaper ads... One time my friend and I came in 5 minutes before class started and studied for the test we were about to take. We both aced it. Somehow we were both able to write just enough to make it sound like we knew what we were talking about. We were also able to join DECA and go to these competitions were we literally had to roleplay different parts. Try to sell a specific product to the judge, create an advertisement of a product in a set amount of time, etc... Great fun. All three of us took entrepreneurship the following year with the same teacher. Basically the entire year was devoted to setting up your own (fake) business and try to create a business plan to make it profitable within three years. You had to come up with a store layout, products, location of your business, where you would get the capital, etc... Have fun! mythology/psych = pretty cool...good professors that entertain me...howevahh...chem/german = the dick...boring chem professor / german one...gross....

311 Concert last night at Charter One Pavillion
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) You won't be missing much, they're horrible live. they're horrible everything...but i have a bit of a vendetta with them i wouldn't get a 311 album, but i'd see them live, they've built their reputation on their live show... i saw modest mouse at northerly island...it was phenominal, i reviewed it in the musics thread but it got lost...i loved it there I would love to see brian wilson smile...that is such an interesting album, both musically and obviously the story behind it.

Greatest Songwriter(s) of All- Time?
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) Robert Hunter was the Dead's lyricist, very much in the vein of John/Taupin. Mad props to Brian Wilson though. John and Paul get my nod for top dogs in the rock songwriting arena, but honerable mentions must include: – Elvis Costello – Aimee Mann – Carole King – Andy Partridge (xtc.) – Zappa – Todd Rundgren I'm thinking primarily of the lyrical content of their songs, but none of these guys are slouches in the musical composition side of things either. i didn't think garcia wrote, but i was thinking it was bob weir who wrote it...good call though...and good call to whoever said the kinks lead singer, and last but not least...I heart Pavement.

Greatest Songwriter(s) of All- Time?
i was also gonna say don't forget about george harrison... but it seems a little lacking in current songwriters... and even old ones... Elliot Smith and Ian Curtis have always struck me as just phenominal, love will tear us apart is just grrrrreat. Morrissey i've loved as a songwriter BRIAN WILSON...Jerry Garcia was NOT that great of a songwriter...he has his moments, but their music did not rely on their lyrics brian wilson is a definate... also scott walker and billy corgan... and a personal favorite but not really gonna be considered...Stephen Malkmus

The NEW Family Guy season
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) I thought when Chris entered the A-ha video in the Lois being a klepto episode was the best thing I've seen on Family Guy. Flat out unbelievable. that was what i was gonna comment on...that was ridiculously clever and funny.

Rock Music Debate #4864
QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) For some reasons I thought both Deal sisters were in the Pixies. My bad. no love lost...i was pointing out that if there was ever an everyman in music...all three of them would be poster boys.
