White Sox Winner: feel better Bassit!
weird win, glad we got it but man, the As have now had two really bad injuries at sox park. That one new yankees prospects career went sideways after he hit that electric box, and now this. Just looking at rest of the league: - Wow did the NL east flip fast. Looks much more like we would have expected after an atrocious start by the braves. That team is too talented - Seems clear to me that from now on we are going to go into each year being underwhelmed by the brewers and giants offseasons only to see them be excellent (I should add As). That front office is too good at finding talent that especially eliminates really weak links on the roster - It is hilarious to me that the padres keep losing to the rockies. Feels like the padres have 500 starting pitchers yet everytime I look they are doing a bullpen game. - Entirely unsurprised by the red sox fall. You looked at the white sox and think "how are they doing this" and it was easy - they had insane starting pitching to start year. The red sox just had a handfull of super productive players and a lot of meh and now that bogaerts/martinez are cooling off there isn't much else there.

Rey Lo Looking Good!
Yeah so I guess the big deal may just be with his curveball now being average he's got like 3 "50" pitches with his fastball velo probably giving him a plus pitch...so it's something that could work.

Rey Lo Looking Good!
We can add him to th elist of these really really needed surprises at the right time that 2021 has given us. The one thing with lopez that I always struggle with is for all the reputation of his stuff, aside from velo his pitches grade really poorly for movement in in baseballsavant. Though this year, the improvement is basically that his stuff went from largely below average in movement to pretty much very slightly below average. I think because he's a short RH that throws hard it just tends to look more dramatic. So it's possible he has just become a much smarter pitcher, but it is weird because I don't often come across pitch profiles like his.

If anything I’d wish the Sox to align their intl and draft strategies better. They were both kinda doing the same thing going after more advanced players for a while, rather than taking moonshots with lots of 16 year olds in latam but going with advanced college players. Going cespedes/colas while going more high school recently makes some sense. But let’s be honest when comparing the Sox. For farm systems, they are at a disadvantage to the smaller market teams getting less draft and intl budget, and worse compmpicks. And then comparing them to yanks/Dodgers, who print money and have like 4 front offices worth of personnel. The Sox can and should do better, but going in waves is going to be likely.

He was mentioned in Badler's review when he was signed and I think got the full 300 k we could offer (maybe that was year we could offer more) so that's noteworthy for intl signings. Guys like Jose Rodriguez and Bailey by comparison just showed up on the rosters so it at least lets you know there were some notable traits. Veras has the additional Tatis bloodlines and was said to have really good present power at a young age so this is all pretty exciting I think.

That's a that'll do Liam White Sox Victory
It was more he had an insanely bad year in AAA, he was striking out like 45% of the time, and he was woeful in 2020 in limited stints. Ignoring the 3 homer game, his defense was better than I thought, and he must have been dealing with an injury or something to start year in AAA, he has put together competitive at bats at least.

when you hover your mouse over the quoted portion do you see "crossing arrows" symbol in the top left of that box appear? Usually when I click on that it selects the whole box so it can be deleted.

man what a joy to have the announcers we have. I just sat back and enjoyed the game. Love how the crowd this year is as loud with 20k or 40k and that is a compliment. I just love seeing this from robert. And man, please board, ban me if I don't go see Luis Robert in person soon. It kills me I still haven't seen him live, I gotta get on this.

Colson hasn't shown much of that present power, but I've been impressed by how he's limited strikeouts. In his first 27 Pas, just 4 strikeouts to 3 walks (14%). Kath has been able to show off more XBH but to this point, but has 12 Ks in 27 PAs (44%). The good news for me, in this thread where I talk to myself, is I like a lot when young players show game power at young ages. But I also like when young players avoid high strikeouts. Put em together though, and you got yourself a stew.

is that a wilfred veras granny? One thing I've been wondering is if the competition level in ACL is higher than our expectations. This year most have struggled much more, but it also has a lot more college players than in the past where pioneer leagues usually sucked them up. Used to be succeeding in ACL meant pretty little, but now it may be a much better indicator they can handle the kanny jump. Just some thoughts.

Kevin Goldstein
I remembered just because I hoped he wasn't involved and had never seen an update and was pretty sour on him initially until his writing won me over. With how segmented luhnow kept his people i'm actually not surprised he was not involved.

I didn't quite remember goldstein as blogger, but he has added a very nice balance in fangraphs which had started to become a little too snarky with how even keeled he is. When sullivan left fangraphs was a tough read for me, but goldstein has been a must-read. I thought he would be kinda an arrogant prick but his writing is very much not that.

Is Vaughn turning into a legit ROY candidate?
I was really wrong about Jonathan India. His early minors were exactly what I was expecting of him and was quick to dismiss, and he's been exactly the guy in the majors that he popped up as in his junior year at florida. Kudos, big hit for Cincy there.

I'm back after vacation last week - thanks @BamaDoc for keepin' on. I'm a bit interested in Homer Cruz. He was competent in DSL a few years ago where he was 19. He K'd about 1 an inning and didn't have insane walks which in DSL basically makes you Cy Young. He was atrocious in Kanny to start the year but a lot were, and now in rookie ball he's done this in a small sample: 26.1 IP, 1 GS, 2.05 ERA and 39 Ks to 12 BBs. Was hopin he'd get tried out again in Kanny but not yet. Wonder what his stuff looks like now and if that pitching studio or whatever in AZ helped him.

yes, nobody should try to diminish the burdi pick. That 2016 draft was absolutely loaded, to me the lack of impact of that draft in part due to trying to supplement that fast 2016 start should be included with that years failure along with the big obvious one. The thread I put together on revisiting hostetler made it hard to overlook 2016, it overshadows the high volume of hte later drafts.
