I believe @Dick Allen said in the offseason that if Rodon was coming from another team he'd have been the guy we'd all be focusing on. He was right, but no pitcher has disappointed me more than Rodon so I still didn't want him. But the guy is still one of the best reclamation projects in the league and he does look like he took this offseason as the kick in the butt it was.

I'm going to defend Foles a bit. He plays up to the team he's on, and his stretch for the bears featured a) the best defenses they faced all year and b) the worst offensive line the bears had all year. Trubs had the opposite. Foles is not good, but playing with Coward I can't even remember some of the guards wasn't going to make any QB look good. Dalton has been in offenses that had a lot of talent with the exception of 2019 and certainly trended that way in 2018. But despite offensive line decline last year due to injuries, he won't have one of the best RBs in the game, and the type of WR core he had last year. I really just think they should have waited. He's not that much better than foles that you would be lost in a lurch. See who is available post draft. Maybe San Fran gets a QB and Jimmy G throws a fit. Maybe Darnold becomes available. This doesn't prevent them, no, but it may prevent some other FAs we could have gotten with 10 mill (not to mention we just lost a 5th round comp pick for Dalton lol)

I like these QBs (I mean I like the idea of Lance but he’s just a paragraph profile to me) but it is impossible now for me to be excited that the front office that has specifically chosen Trubisky, Glennon, Foles and Dalton is going to be able to get the great QB and not the inevitable bust. And to move up it’s likely needing to move a future first

Man nba draftniks may be the worst of all sports. There was so much stuff predraft on bulls boards on people wanting to “go for high ceiling” and drafting poku at 4. This could bite me blah blah but he has been the worst basketball player I’ve seen this year every game I’ve watched him. Thad is just incredible this year.

Yeah Dalton is worse, he’s broken from the last few years. he was more fun when he was younger, but now he’s a check down boy like mitch, but not mobile.

I do stand with chisoxfn on the point that if you were a bears fatalist this is a great day for you. You already wanted bears to fire sale, this will get a high draft pick next year, you didn’t “sell the future” and it guarantees Pace/Nagy are fired. Worst case scenario was probably like trading for Stafford. A nearly great QB that would have cost a ton in all respects and probably saved their jobs.

Yeah that's what I don't really get about some of the reaction. For those who wanted Pace out, didn't want them making decisions, this is perfect. No way andy dalton saves their jobs. But if you wanted more (like me) - this makes no sense for a couple reasons, maily to do with money. - Foles contract does not appear to be one where you can save money on a trade due to his signing bonus. But best case scenario here - the bears had good trade interest for Foles as backup. If you think you can get draft capital back for foles, and can't guarantee seattle trades russ, and may need to get a rookie QB, dalton may fit. But it's a weird swap. Foles really was fine to me if they struck out going big - he would be terrible if it's because he beat out Andy fucking dalton. Pace screws himself because he both wants to swing for fences but also panics the fuck out that he'll end up without a spot in musical chairs. And then what? You have to trade for a backup QB as your starter instead of signing a backup QB as a starter? There is no way anybody could justify to themselves that the bears are better with Dalton than Trubisky after watching this. And if you are still going after wilson, great, but you just wasted money for no reason.

Isn't this your best case scenario? I don't understand why you aren't celebrating.

I will say that Tyrod Taylor just made $10mill plus. But why the bears felt they needed to have dalton while also having foles? No idea.
