Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
So amazing how Manfred thinks so hard how to improve the game, but continues to watch his league make it harder for the top talent to play in their league.

I don't care what artificial constraints need to be put in place...but baseball has to get a better offseason. It gets worse every year.

Omar Khan is interviewing for Houston. My tops remain him or Smith as president, and lure them with a long-term deal.

MLB 2020-21 off season catch all
Not to be confused with actual talent, but I kinda feel like the giants are the most interesting team in baseball. They are operating just way differently than I’d expect.

2020 College Football thread
Yeah, but they undercut the argument. No school can become Alabama or Ohio State and there are several more schools like it. They have the history, donor base, fanbase, athletic department, state support, etc. that allow them to get the best coaches and ensure the carousel never ends. It never ends even when they have make a wrong move. But Clemson is in a major conference, and happened to find one of the best college coaches in the country to build a power house. They aren't Cincinnati, they are a good enough program and have enough support to pay him so cost isn't the problem. But if Dabo leaves, it's very likely "clemsoning" returns. If you are a school in a major conference and start piling up 10 win seasons multiple years in a row, you will get the benefit of the doubt in a 4-team playoff over the upstarts like a Cincinnati or coastal carolina. So it's not a blue blood problem, it's a small conference problem. Like I root for Missouri. In bizarro world where Mizzou starts putting together 10-win seasons and has an 12-1 year with a conference championship game win, do I think a 10-2 Ohio State would jump Missouri? No. Would a 11-0 Cincinnati? Probably Not! Not unless it had some really great wins, and that's complete luck of the draw in schedulemaking to be in a smaller conference where you had to schedule years out. It's a question of whether this playoff should specifically elevate those conferences and programs when they have great years. I don't know the answer. UCF probably would have made it in most years. Boise State would have been a lot more fun than a lot of crappy bcs matchups 10 years ago.

**Movies that we Watch** Thread
Movies that I saw in 2020 that I still remember seeing and liked: - Palm Springs - Tenet - Mank - Boys State (doc) - Trip to Greece - David Byrne's American Utopia (doc) Movies that I saw in 2020 that I didn't remember until a list reminded me they existed: - The Trial of the Chicago 7 - On the Rocks - American Pickle (I actually thought this was enjoyable but completely forgot it so it gets downgraded) I liked the painted bird novel, but just can't imagine i'll be in the headspace to want to dive into that. First Cow I gave 10 minutes then went to bed, not looking good for returning. Nomadland I'll probably give a shot. But honestly for entertainment from movies now I just want some shit to blow up, to be shot with bright colors and going around the world to cool places in boats and shit. I 100% just want escapism now. The only reason mank survived really is the good old time hollywood stuff which i'm a sucker for and the incredible acting performances. But will I watch Boys state again? 0% chance. Everything else up there? Hell yeah. I'll probably watch Trip to Greece 4-5 more times in the next 5 years and I wouldn't even tell anyone it's a good film.

It gets worse guys. Moncada is negative value according to this. We should dump him before we get even farther down the hole.

So in case anyone is wondering Gray is on essentially a 3 year $32 million deal, where is last year is a $12 million club option. Pretty cheap.

BaseballAmerica: Kelley Draws Rave Reviews from Instructs
Yeah. I don't think no games is the correct way. But I think there is too much emphasis on getting players ready for the grind. It's really hard for players to make changes mid season in the majors, but I don't know that that should be the case in the minors. Wouldn't it me better ot maybe just have a first half / second half with a 3 week gap in between to try and allow players to breathe and work on something and carry it forward right into games? I think it is interesting though, whether younger guys can be developed best by a more semi game action approach like you said, and then get them ready for majors against polished players in AAA. Maybe its reversed where getting them in good game habits right away, then when they've identiifed weaknesses, working in a dedicated arena before they go to majors against the best of the rest of the farm.
