  1. It's true us real mods are known for our keen intellect and logical consistency. Tony failed his annual exams so we booted him.
  2. Come on dude. 4 IP. He could be toast but that's the case with the middle reliever market. His contract this year shouldn't be near what we had to pay for a toast Kelvin Herrerra, and can be paired with a next tier closer. He wouldn't need to be overused on sox staff, and if he strikes out 41% of batters like he did in 2019 that's a big benefit. He's a hedge on a matt foster decline. Mcgee/YAtes are my MRP and Rosenthal my backup to Hendriks.
  3. I like Lynn more than Snell this is true. But I definitely have jealousy of a team comparable to us in the rebuild going out and netting Clevinger, Snell and Darvish in a three month period and still being relatively whole in the farm in terms of top guys. I'd rank it (leaving off clev, I was a big fan but that injury would be a huge hit to sox) 1. Darvish (like contract and talent, best pitcher of bunch) 2. Lynn 3. Snell Definitely wish we were talking about upgrading with a Snell/Darvish for our next pitcher and not Quintana, who we are hoping gets us an Ivan Nova 2019 year. That's our dream big.
  4. I am not so convinced that if you could get Yates + Rosenthal you aren't a better team than getting Hendriks, even as someone that's a big fan of Hendriks.
  5. Nice, looking forward to it. Gotta be easier to be a guest on WST nowadays. So long as you don't state that missing work due to being in jail is the same as missing it because you are sick you won't be the worst guest that appeared on the show.
  6. This is actually a frustrating part of the board. There are so many facets to roster building in baseball which is what makes it so interesting. But when a group of posters criticizes the Sox taking off the 2018 intl period it gets pushed off as whining because Sox have had success with Cuban market. And if Sox aren’t the worst at something you can’t criticize it. But then when a trade like this happens, it shows the downside of not getting that talent - we didn’t have a comparable talent package because we signed Yolbert Sanchez instead. And then it’s just “well if we would have traded for Darvish we’d have whined because we gave up X”. The Sox have had a lot more success in so many avenues than where they were in 2016. The draft, player development, international - all better. But they still hold back and it has repercussions like this - where a good player is available for a reasonable cost and they missed out on getting the pieces needed two years ago had they just spent $1 million more on a budget that should just be an automatic like item.
  7. My favorite part was saying we should get Marte from the pirates
  8. Board handled the overnight well I see.
  9. Well, you need a good 6-20 with upside. Can’t just be a bunch of 24 year olds 2 years out of college in AA looking like 4th outfielders or fringe starters.
  10. The Dunning deal makes sense now. The deals from earlier for campusano, etc made me wonder how dead weight Heyward was. Excellent job by Padres, but cubs may very well have gotten some great pieces.
  11. The thing is we should be able to tell the difference between adding a #3 starter, average LF, and good closer to a 72 win team and getting 2 cy young type pitchers to a playoff team.
  12. Yes this too. If the last five drafts have anyone feeling confident that they know what kind of QB succeeds, I’d like to hear it. Nobody was trashed more than Allen. Jackson was rooted for but was crapped on for his games against top competition. Darnold was prototypical. Winston was one of the best prospects of the decade. I have no idea. But I saw Wentz go from MVP behind one of the best olines in the league to bust as they fell apart with injuries. I really don’t want to see Dak behind bears oline, I like him too much. (Jk I’d love dak on bears) So yeah if we are late half of first let’s build out oline, secondary and find the rest.
  13. Comps to Abrams on this board man. Soxtalk hated him because he was just Yolmer Sanchez. Now he’s just Nick Madrigal. Lots of research done here with our comps.
  14. I think Sox are doing much better than they used to and have developed a number of specialties. But Katz may merely be making us equal to what other orgs started. I think it’s fair people start comparing Sox to Dodgers, Yankees, rays, Padres. I expect to beat them and think to do so we’ll need to find more edges than they have. Too many on this board will only compare Sox to themselves, and as long as there is progress feel good. But it’s not if others are doing more and faster.
  15. What if instead of trying to get a #4 starter for our fourth starter spot we tried to get a #3 starter and just made a better rotation than competitors.
  16. Of starting pitchers moved, Darvish was my favorite. Where I’m jealous isn’t necessarily for any other reason than sox trying to find perfect equilibrium of budget to talent rather than building an overwhelming advantage with talent. Our offense should be great, but it could have been the top offense in the league. Our pitching should be good without injuries, but we are hopefully able to build a great bullpen and hedge pitching with average depth. Its the fetishizing of Quintana as like, what this team needs that bums me out.
  17. They are far from the lux tax, and that’s the only real spending limit in baseball. Who says their ownership won’t play near there?
  18. Lamet / Snell / Darvish / Paddock / Gore and Clevinger the year after.
  19. Oof Padres still going hard at Yu. I wonder if this pushes Dodgers too.
  20. Probably true. I don’t think Mejia is a throw in, but I don’t think he’s in the top three reasons the rays made that trade. So even if Sox fans start with Kopech+ Collins it’s the latter two prospects that made the Padres a much better fit than the Sox. We don’t have names in our 9-15 range that are going to pull much value. Maybe next year though.
  21. As someone who hasn’t particularly liked Nolan’s work, I thought tenet was absolutely rad as hell. Actually having a sense of humor made the “game rules exposition” bearable and it had so many fun set pieces. I actually watched it back to back nights just to rewatch some fun scenes.
  22. The advantage I have is I’ve actually watched Sox baseball in the last two years
  23. Yes. also when people were trashing Montgomery I said the only thing making me hold my tongue was how trash Mike Davis looked in Chicago vs him looking awesome in Carolina. Bears had more talent than coaches knew, but to their credit they found it...eventually and hopefully not too late.
  24. He’s done a great job but he deserved a worse punishment for the separate database fiasco or cappy deserved less.
