  1. Depends how much money Katz is throwing into the pot to help sign him.
  2. When you can be replaced with Wong and Hernandez not sure you are untouchable.
  3. I don't know what all in on analytics means or even matters, but when working with Giolito he found him all the support, tools, and technology needed to overhaul his mechanics in one offseason. He seems to get the trust of the pitchers he works with, which is the A1 responsibility here: "The biggest thing I learned early was getting the players to trust you," he said. "You have to make sure they know it's about them and it's not about you. Once that happened, it was pretty easy. That was something I focused on -- building the relationships." After the high school season, in the summers of 2011 and 2012, Katz served as pitching coach of the La Crosse [Wisconsin] Loggers in the collegiate wood-bat Northwoods League. Andy McKay, who became a mental skills coach in the Rockies system in 2012 and was named the Mariners director of player development in October 2015, was the Loggers manager at the time. In Katz's second season with the Loggers, Tyler Servais, son of then-Angels assistant GM and current Mariners manager Scott Servais, was the team's catcher. https://www.milb.com/news/gcs-177671770 Just unbelievable luck (well, that's a very wealthy school, but still) the coaching group that was put together for Fried, Giolito and Flaherty in high school.
  4. Good hire
  5. I'd definitely give up Kopech for players. Giving him up for lynn? Silly. Regardless of whether I think Kopech could still be good, you lose that bullet for another deal, and I can't imagine Lynn is the best option here.
  6. This is just the funny-because-it's-sad part of the thing. How could they justify any punishment when they hired him after knowing? So why do they care the outcome? Unless you are telling me that TLR told them he was not the one driving, and it was all a mistake and the truth would come to light, there is no way they care about any of it. And by they I mean he.
  7. I think I agree with this? It kind of depends on if the Mets go hard after Realmuto or Springer. But I'd expect it to be Realmuto, with Springer look at an Upton-like contract? I just feel pretty good about the mid-level pitchers this year on short deals while we sort out our rotation.
  8. I broke down and actually sent an email. The taunting of the sox fans with the staying silent and hiding behind not commenting until it plays out as if they are a party in the case is such a slap in the face.
  9. Ah, the illusion that the outcome of this case matters one bit to Jerry.
  10. I would be thrilled if we signed bauer, but I actually am fine with Gausman/Odorizzi. Neither prevent us from doing anything at any other time, could be traded easily, and will be productive. Though, Odorizzi may be a little risky for innings, but he also could be a buy low candidate.
  11. This is a funny offseason for pitchers. To me there is a somewhat clear set of tiers, like an easy to translate "$15" game. I guess I would put it as budget of $5, and you need to sign 2 pitchers, regardless of what you think of signing two. $4 - Bauer $3 - Morton, Gausman (I have to assume right?), Tanaka, Paxton, Quintana $2 - Walker, Minor, Odorizzi, Kluber, Archer, Lester $1 - Anything else
  12. Thanks.
  13. Wait did Gausman decline his QO?!
  14. Can't wait for the gross takes at end of year about how Tony overcame adversity. Or a cool ESPN montage of Tony being released from Jail and going to the ballpark.
  15. Every draft pick has been tied to the bulls, every trade has been tied to the bulls. In terms of drafts I have found that in football and baseball "online fan favorites" have often turned out pretty good. In nba drafts though...less so. I have a hard time believing in any of the strong opinions on this draft, even in terms of fit, I could see rationale for any of the top 10-15 guys. I like the concept of Deni - but his FT % terrifies me. I like a playmaker/length of ball. I think wiseman would be a good nba starter. Edwards looks the part, wouldn't be my favorite, but can see it. Toppin is limited, but also I could see being the guy that figures out how to over perform based on weakness. Conceptually - Killian Hayes sounds good. Halliburton people hate, but again, could see him being that overperformer in college that does same in pros. The FlaSt guy I like a lot. I really believed in Luka, luka was good. I thought Young would be good, he was good. I also thought Dennis smith would be awesome, he was maybe the worst of the top ten picks that year. I thought Porter Jr was too risky and soft, he looks pretty damn good. All drafts are crap shoots, but, I'm pretty much gonna be happy with whomever they draft and tapping out on acting like I could know if a player will be good.
  16. Completely agree. You could just hear JR/TLR say "I only had a couple drinks, .09 is BARELY above the legal limit, I mean this isn't even a felony. Would basically be a sleepover at a friends house if I go to jail."
  17. I was actually mad listening to it.
  18. No, he absolutely was minimizing this, I just listened to the interview
  19. This interview is AWFUL. Bob compares the possibility of TLR spending the night in jail during spring training to David Ross missing the first few days of spring training with the flu.
  20. Bob should be ashamed of himself.
  21. bmags replied to hogan873's topic in SLaM
no party he is suing has the standing to negotiate those things.
  22. *hmm I find these people annoying going too far in wanting to punish Tony Larussa* *types furiously* "Actually, driving impaired is a good thing..."
  23. Nice find @southsider2k5
  24. The reality is there are only 30 of these jobs. They are sweet jobs. It shouldn't be hard to find someone good.
